This is very appealing to me, especially as twice this money only buys a rough Mk2 Granada. I know there’s no such thing as a Carlton GLS and it’s got the wrong, older wheels and trims. But what else can anyone see as an issue, @sutty2006 I’m looking to you for some pointers here, I haven’t driven an old shape Carlton since 1987! Would front suspension rot be visible in these pictures ?  If I make the trek up North , I want to be prepared , are there any other areas I should ask for close up pics of?

£2500 with no MOT? I’d say that’s a little steep, but if you pay it, it definitely brings the values up.

145% check the inner wings between the strut tops and the wing rails. They rot from the underneath but it’s very common on these. There are a few places that rot without being able to see it. Check my Carlton thread out, you’ll see the work I had to do to mine!

check the fan blower works and heater matrix doesn’t leak. You’ll see evidence of that by your left foot as you sit in the drivers side. The heater blowers seize and are a pain to get to (dash out job) and motors are no longer available. I modified an escort unit to fit, which isn’t perfect but more reliable.

the 1.8 engine is bullet prof, but make sure the cam belt and water pump have been done.

if you need more info pm me.

Fuck, that’s hideous.

Remember, taste is a very personal thing.

I personally think its shit.

That's as much a 1958 Land Rover as I am.  And I was born in 1959.

Not eBay, and not cheap, but:

This has cheered me up every time I've passed it en route to my parents' (North-East corner of Essex).

It's not perfect; bit of rust around the rear arch ankles and I've not looked at the MOT history, but it looks an honest thing and pre-facelift Xantias with those trimz are HOT.
