Demuro made me aware of the Buick Reatta recently - they have an actual centre touch screen - in 1989! Amazeballs.

Just 8,000 bucks for this fantastic machine. I'd love this.

a close friend of mine had one of these, it was amazing, as computer geeks we loved that it was a 1980s computer on wheels more or less :)

but that was also a bit of problem because well its a 1980s computer on wheels and all the electrical fun that came with that!, and some general parts fun (I remember doing some parts hunting for him, because it used some sort of weird accumulator sphere for part of the braking system, which IIRC was also shared with some Jags or something such so prices where £LOL if you could even find one)

in the end yet something else went electrically wrong with it, he parked it up and got himself the best 1997 Lincoln town car (last of the 2nd gens) he could find as a reliable commuter to work and back gotta keep wafting along :), thankfully that was not the end of the Reatta last I heard a friend/room mate of his fixed the issue with it and is currently running around in it :)

I believe the touch screen was removed in later model years (according to Doug) in typical GM 'project drive' style, I wonder if that improved reliability as well as reducing cost.

if my friends car is anything to go by, probably not sadly

the touch screen/centre console computer never really gave him much issue, it was always the other "ECU"s and other electrical things that gave him issues sadly IIRC

I remember the entire computer and screen from one of these came up on ebay, and we where wondering what it would take to power it up/bring it up outside the car itself :)

(for those wondering IIRC the CPU in the main centre console computer was Motorola 68000 like the First Macintosh :)

Holy shitballs.

I went to school with a lad who was a year older than me.  Still remember him - Richard White.  Became friendly with him when I was in Yr11 and he was Yr13.  Whilst the other kids had Nova's and Clios, hey went straight into a Cavalier SRi.  This would have been 1999.  He was the most unlikely guy to enjoy a bit of FULL THROTTLE but I've loved these ever since.

Anyway

Burple ✔️

Speedy ✔️

Trims even though it's a decent model ✔️

Turbot alloys and V6. Did the Sri ever come as a V6 or was it added after? I was 99.37% sure I'd see an Ecotec lump under the lid.

Though perhaps some credit should be given for the picture of Fatima Whitbread (with a nail through her arse) about to attack that wonky knockered angel on the front of the sidecar
