To be fair, I've never had to bleed a common rail diesel after changing a filter.

That’s how it is/was. Why buy locally when the handicap of distance is there to be overcome and also brings adventure ? Why buy a good example when there are far, far worse available? 
 

Local cars in lovely condition rarely make for great reading IMHO.

I didn't know they made them with I6's. I thought 64 was the last of the mileage maker 6. Didn't Ford stick the Y Block in some Canadian models. I'm of to google this.
