......look at that fucking monstrosity in the background!!!

True. Faux-Palladian columns rarely look good on a modern house.

Do you know how bad it is in the wrong places?

Excellent condition...

Promising...

...but non runner

Needs both steering gaiters changing and washers don't work. Fuel injection mixture is running rich so will need adjustment to pass next mot. Steering column shroud broken. There is some fence paint overspray on n/s paintwork - should polish off. n/s/f seat has 2" rip on seat squab. n/s/r door seal doesn't! so carpet gets wet when it rains (floor is sound with no rust). 1 of the Speedline alloys leaks air on the rim so will need a refurb (steel spare is fitted) Water temp warning light is on when driving but temp gauge shows normal

So, not quite excellent condition, then...

I know I always say this, but these always seem good value to me.

Love it.

Ensure it's mechanically sound and just smoke around in it as-is. Or in other words; do not paint.

If that was for sale maybe 6 months from now, I'd be all over it.

The idea of getting something the polar opposite of the Alfa to bimble up and down the M90/A90 to visit family / friends is appealing.

I mean, of course, to keep alongside the Alfa, rather than instead of.

Oh, this is a shame. This thing was in a yard near my office for years with a few other old cars, all owned by an eccentric old bloke. that Bearded Explorer fella did a video there a while back (with the guy's permission for once) and then shortly after I noticed all the cars were for sale. Turns out the old bloke died and his estate sold them off.

Anyway, the bloke selling it has now chopped off the entire front end and is breaking the rest of it for parts!

s-l500.jpg

Now I'm under no illusion that these old Packardbakers are particularly desirable, and they are unarguably pig-ugly, but they are rare, even in the US, and it seems like an incredible waste in 2021 to just chop one up. It wasn't even that rough to start with and could definitely have gone back on the road. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say the market for 1957 Packard/Studebaker bits in the UK is zero, as I'm pretty sure there aren't any others on the road over here, so hopefully the guy who committed this act of butchery will be out of pocket in the long term

Anyway, in brighter news, this looks like a cheap way into two-stroke Wartburg ownership

s-l1600.jpg

It needs a bonnet, screen and water pump housing

s-l1600.jpg

But I reckon I could get all those bits easily enough. Could easily be on the road for about £1500 I'd have thought. If it wasn't in Somerset I'd be giving this a bit of serious thought. It's a column-change, too, which is massive bonus

£800 for the rear bumper?

Aye, that's all gonna get bailed in a few months.

Strictly speaking it doesn't even need a screen as long as you can live with the crack - it's MOT exempt innit.
