That number plate is familiar, in a vague sort of way.  It's a Bootle (Liverpool) combination, so I expect I would have seen it either in Southport in the 70s or when working in Bootle, which I did quite a lot in the 80s.  I always liked the look of those; would it have been so difficult to bring them in instead of stamping out thousands of mk4 Zephyrs?  They could even have been called Zephyr for the UK market.

It's on a Cambridgeshire registration so possibly supplied by Chesterton Autocars in Cambridge?

1983 dealer list -

I competely forgot about Minden (How could you forget? My Dad worked on that estate for years).

I assumed that being "SEB" it was a private reg not putting 2 and 2 together (most Bury cars as you probably know are RT and BJ, with GV and DX etc. being reserved for Ipswich and the other side (God, I'm nerdy about these things).

From a very young age, I had the ladybird book which showed you how to spot where a car was from, from the registration Pre-1983.

The Taunus was Cortina-sized, roughly, and definitely not as 'executive' as the Mk4 Zephyr, but I do think Ford could have sold the coupé over here as a sort of 'personal luxury' car pitched just above the Capri, like they did later with the Granada coupé.

I'm most interested to learn how this Badewanne ended up over here, and why it had to die by fire in such a dramatic fashion...

MoT failure?  Crash damage that's out of shot?

The Bootle Taunus is bigger than previous models and usually came with a V6, so maybe it could have replaced the eight year old Corsair?  The 1972 Granada was smaller than the Zephyr it replaced, after all.

Want  a big estate/MPV/Crossover that's not your run of the mill choices?

How about a slightly down, but honest Dodge Journey with a Long MOT thats actually good history wise(wear & tear) and comes with the VW diesel?

I suggested these to @rantingYoof last year when he was looking for a family car, they were still rare/pricy to find.

But not this one, your's for £800!

And yes, the chillers still work.

Fuck me this looks cheap at 8 grand, i’d love it!

So would I, but I would crash it IMMEDIATELY, which would be a shame.
Engine-swap looks neatly done.
