MOT, tax (or recent tax) and V5.

I honestly thought both cars had to be insured?

If I am doing some stick welding what temperature does it get up to?

I might be doing some welding on both sides of a Nissan D21 chassis leg and its near the fuel lines on one side. Obviously with diesel, it would take a much higher temperature to ignite and I suspect that arc welding will be very very hot and is likely to cause flames if it went a wee bit wrong.

With a MIG I reckon I would be okay but with a stick welder I reckon I need to remove everything fuel related first.

Any ideas or experience?

What Channel is Wheeler Dealers on, folks? Cheers.

Then this is what you should do.

I would never* cut corners with safety to save time, it would be most foolish. I guess what I'm getting at is that if you think you should play safe then do so, it's probably for the best.

Car on Sorn and I want to tax it from start of October. Do I have to wait until then before taxing or can I go tomorrow, get the tax and not drive car until 1st O tober? I know you can't legally display the tax until atart date but I'm not arsed about that as I just want to tax tomorrow without losing a month if possible. Ta..

You can't tax an untaxed car for next month more than 2 working days from the end of the current month. Tomorrow is the 27th so hopefully you should be ok.

Can you tax a car with the 'old' style blue logbook? (the one before the red one). I can't find the new logbook (not sure I was sent one) and don't have a reminder.

Posted

Yeah, I did one last month on the "old" logbook. They haven't finished sending the new ones out yet.

Thanks, much appreciated.!

I think I'm having a slight case of separation anxiety or something because I want my car back. Would it be very bad if I called the recovery firm and told them to deliver her home, cancel the assessment and hit the car with hammers until she's better?

IGNORE ME I'M BEING CRAZY. Dad made me realise that at the moment, it's better the car is with an assessor so they can make sure all is straight and true and repairable, irrespective of cost, in a way I can't at home.

Where is the OFF button on an LTI taxi meter ?

That's a Cygnus 300. Press the "REVERT" or "<" button to switch off.

It will, however, come back on as soon as the car moves as the pulse wire triggers it to come back to life.

Cheers, Pete. I have one of those things, but didn't know how to use it properly. Legacy from when me and a mate owned a taxi firm. Must have a dig around, I'm pretty sure there's other shit about here too.

Chap I work with has suffered DPF failure on his Audi A4 & is apparently just going to have it removed.

I an curious to know whether it will it pass future MOT's?

If it's running properly, it should be ok. There are people out there who can reprogram cars with the DPF's removed so the ECU is clueless about it.

My Mito has DPF issues, and Alfa Uk don't seem to want to do a sodding thing about it over 2 years after complaining, and being messed about and given shoddy service from the local dealership. It will cost about £750 to castrate the Mito to rid it of the cursed DPF;my cars only done 7000 miles

My car was having problems from 6 months old,and at that time done regular 80 mile round trips cruising at 70 mph,and driven hard through the gears;the problem is the Alfa Romeo customer care,as they never hear of any Alfa customers having problems, and never hear of bad dealer service

My understanding is that diesel emissions devices must be physically present under the new rules (and I'm not sure when they come into force). The solution to this is to remove the DPF, bash the guts out of it, and refit. Then reflash the ECU.

This. My W221 was going through 27 litres of AdBlue per 800/1000 miles. The dealer said (off the record) that they fucking hated the things, and that the above solution was one they'd prefer, however Stuttgart wouldn't approve!

How hot are they on the Continuous Insurance laws? I cancelled the insurance on the Bluebird yesterday but will I get away with putting it on ebay tomorrow with the tax still on it?

A mate of mine has recently acquired a car and for some reason was given the logbook complete and unsigned by the seller. He was asking me what to do with the logbook and I honestly didn't know what to advise.

What will happen if he sends it off to Swansea with the sellers portion of the logbook unsigned?

Chuff all.

When I bought my new car from a dealer, they gave me the entire V5 (minus the trade bit, that had already been sent off) so I could tax it before I collected it. The old seller had therefore not signed the bottom of the first page. I taxed it, the post office offered to send the V5 off for me, I asked if it mattered that only I had signed it and they said not to worry.

Lo and behold, two weeks later a V5 turns up in my name for it.

Aye, or just send it off, sign your part and tell them the seller forgot to his bit.

Curious Insurance thing in the small print...

Rang Aviva for a quote for Porsche,

It was OK but they said that they would increase the excess from £250 to £450 in the event that I chose to use a non Aviva recommended repairer.

I think that in the event of a claim involving a 25 yr old Porsche,

the last place you'd want it going is to anyones recommended repairer when there's a specialist Porsche breaker on hand.

Can they do this?

Or is it a case of they can do what the buggery they like?
