With them being individual pods I thought it may have a rectifier or stabiliser in situ as no other electronics are affected.

If they are the original Reliant gauges I'd expect there to be a little metal can voltage reg somewhere, I'd also expect the elements to have done a right number on it, but could well be just dodgy connections. There's a voltage reg that can be bought for buttons, LM7808 in TO22 package so it looks like a big transistor, not as fussed about damp and nice and stable because electronic.

How easy would it be to renew a full sill on a berlingo/partner van? They have gone really weetabixy over the last year, but aside from this the van is sound. Id hate to go modern (with dreaded hire purchase) if its an easy fix, esp since ive had this for years and really don't fancy scrapping it. Any advice appreciated.

You could probably have it repaired professionally for less than one months payment on a new van. Don't do it!

That is pretty much the list.

Surely the rules on here go something like: 'Don't be dick!'

That's all that's needed :)

Of course I have broken that rule myself many times but hey, I was born this way :)

It is this as well, but that is less defined.

What's the best way to make my 67 AMC convertible with dodgy hood waterproof so I can use it to store seats and stuff in there - it's been really damp and mouldy in the past.  The car is for parts so it doesn't need a fix to make it roadworthy but I am short of storage and would like to store the BMW seats I bought for the '68 in the 67 until I get time to weld up suitable brackets and electrical hook ups.  I have tried various covers etc but water always seems to find a way to get and make stuff mouldy.

Also - anyone had bother with Corsa C fuel filler pipes?  The filler pipe seems to run across from one side of the car to the other and is pissing out fuel - what a tosh design!

Put it in a decent garage :)

Father Alf is a tight fisted boatist and swears by Fabsil for boat hoods.........best give it a good clean first

Time spent trying and failing to make the AMC weatherproof is probably better spent getting on with sorting the seats :)

Sugar soap is apparently just as good as specialist canvass cleaners.

My brother in law has finally purchased a 1963 Lambretta Ti125 after wanting one for the last few years. He told me it's been slowly restored over the last few years and is an Italian import. Sounds great, and I told him about a company that specialises in classic scooter insurance. He then tells me he'll have to get it registered first, as it's never been registered. He has letters from the bloke that imported it (over 10 years ago) as well as from the last owner that restored it, including a dating certificate.

Has he entered a world of pain and expense, seeing as it has no NOVA? Or is he ok and DVLA will register it on the documents he has, seeing it was imported so long ago?

Gaffa tape, the same as you'd do any leaky floppytop, or the cling film used for packaging, it's available in black, and pretty durable.

Golf FTP'd twice (and in stages each time). Nice AutoAid man said it wasn't charging which a voltmeter agrees is correct so swapped alternator for another I had "in stock". Push started as battery was flat but thought it's OK as it will charge up now. Drive 5 miles. Won't restart, battery flat. Get jump start. Goes 1/2 mile and dies. Get jump off different car and leave running connected up for several minutes to charge off other car. Start engine, dies flat battery. I'm thinking there's a short somewhere which is draining electricity which is why it is not holding charge. This is also hinted at by two other things. I drove it about 4 miles earlier in the day the first time it happened, but I disconnect the battery when I stopped. Restarted OK and worked. Final fail time the battery light was faintly on but wouldn't go out completely when revved. Also at final FTP, various instruments playing up like speedo not working.

Help!

What would a ford 302 V8 with all ancillaries, clutch and T5 gearbox be worth in the UK?  Seen one here for $650 which I'm tempted to buy for future use but I will have to get it to UK when I eventually come back and won't bother if they're cheap over there.

SoC of this very parish, sent me a text telling me that there was a big problem with the distributor for my Daimler 250V8.I'm going to see him tomorrow to discuss the problem.

If my memory is correct  there is someone on here that works for a company refurbishing such items, but who is it?

Earth straps as another poster said. Plus check the alt earth to the engine block, I had a manta with a separate earth lead there which didn't work, I replaced it & the charging came back. Just wish I'd realised before the 3rd alt.

The 302 is worth £300 upwards depending on spec the T5 however is worth serious money and rare over here.

NOVA will be fine, getting it registered if it's been rebuilt multiple times will be a friggin nightmare if a friends experience is anything to go by.

What do I have to prove to ECP that the Lion Battery I bought 18 months ago is faulty? Fucker wouldn't start this evening 50 mile from home, battery was flat, RAC man came, declared battery was goosed, he did say he would just claim on the warranty, it won't hold a charge, alternator etc is doing its job. I have the receipt, will this suffice or will they be wanting a signed testimony by the RAC officers parents that the battery is knackered?

Posted

RAC man tested it with his laptop device, it wouldn't hold charge, might just try giving it a charge overnight as my alternative is to head to ECP on foot about 5 miles away if its flat again. Which due to work will be in a weeks time.

I've took batteries back to ecp and g and s, Sheffield and Barnsley branches. Told them it was tested by my garage. Never tested on both occasions, just accepted my word for it.

Did have g and s tell me that the Bosch silver that I presented a month before the five year warranty expired, had a four year warranty and not five, manager was actually arguing with me infront of a shop of customers basically saying I was talking shit.

Funnily enough when I contacted area manager they remembered it was a five year warranty, funny that.

I'll try ECP at Hillsborough Sunday then. I've no reason to doubt the RAC bloke as he said he thought their batteries were a rip off anyway.
