If you know what the smaller engine looks like, there's not much chance of mistaking the two. If you don't, then the 12v on the cam cover helps and the thermostat is high up behind the head instead of low down to the front.

His 305 van has got a engine in it, which he was told was a 2.1 n/a diesel. Didn't see car it came out from so wanted to see if was an obvious difference.

Those 2.1s are super-strong, beautifully efficient engines. The finest 4 pot dizzler by far, for me. They feel as tough as an OM602/3 and are very smooth (for an online four).

3m double sided foam adhesive body tape, along with making sure both surfaces are absolutely clean with a decent solvent

Or screws

Having tried some cheap adhesive pads from eBay, anyone able to suggest something I can stick my numberplate back on with?

It’s not the pads it’s the idiot using them

Clean both surfaces thoroughly with solvent, heat the plate with a hairdryer, apply the pads, heat again, heat the bumper lightly, apply with force and hold for a few seconds / rub it flat, heat and rub

Leave to cool before driving

Standard number plate pads.

Skeptical cat is Skeptical.

Why?

Because in the UK, the XUD11 was only supplied in turbo form for the Xantia, XM, 406 and 605. The Non-turbo 2.1 was never sold in the UK. I think it may have been available in some povvo spec cars on the continent, but they are really not common at all.

This was the disscussion.

Mr Thumper said he didnt think that N/A 2.1s were sold but lady seemed pretty certain when he bought and fitted it.

I will let him down gently that he is a few cc shorter than he thought!

Back in the day when I was a bod at halfords I used to get this all the time, and with rear view mirror pads too

"These pads are shit, it's just fallen straight off" and you can see the two clean rectangles where they've stuck the pads over 15 years worth of road grime - It stuck perfectly well to the muck mate!

What would you do? I need another functional car to be backup for the 172.

2 most logical options are

1. My Seat Toledo - needs a front spring, clutch and a timing belt

2. The Burd's 172 - unknown gearbox oil leak, handbrake cables and tyres needed.

Both are likely to cost the same, and have similar levels of "ohfuckery"

What one should I do?

Neither are currently mot'd

Using a 172 as a backup for a 172 sounds brilliant

2 negatives make a positive, right?!

WTF is a DEPHASER and do I have one fitted onto my scenic 1600 16v auto 2002 vintage?????

Or a cam sensor code that isn’t a faulty sensor but actually the cam timing out . A prime example of a fault code not being a diagnosis

Nope it’s the unit on the end of the camshaft(s) that uses oil pressure to vary cam timing .

Isn't it a modern name for a harmonic balancer?

I don’t think so, it actually affects timing doesn’t it?

Edit - beat to it by someone that actually knows what he’s on about and isn’t just guessing like me :D

I've got a feeling the 1.6 didn't but only from old goona threads. I don't think you feel it as it's a gradual thing.

With this new instant cherished transfer online system, does your old number plate drop off the face of the earth instantly?

Going to swap the van onto a private plate but it’s parked on the street and knowing my luck it’ll be clamped by the time I walk to it with the new plates :D

It seems both plates have fucked off from the system when I’ve done this today, so that’s.... nice

What became of the ex danthecapriman ex breadvan ex junkman Granada, is it still alive\in AS hands?

I've acquired a LHD Tipo somehow. It's going to be a parts car more than likely.

It is UK registered and has valid MOT, but I've noticed a lot of temporary insurance companies hate imports.

Anyone know any provider who doesn't care? Or am I best off getting it transported?
