Guest Hooli Posted October 28, 2017 Posted October 28, 2017 I used to have a mate who did it with everything, keep ya foot down as you flick it on & off for the loudest bangs. He did it less after blowing the rear box apart on a sunny.
Des Posted October 28, 2017 Posted October 28, 2017 Go to someone who tests Honda's. It'll probably pass ok. I've yet to hear a stock Honda horn that puts out a decent noise....I've yet to encounter a Honda that would have the slightest business sounding a horn, being on the receiving end however is quite a different matter. spike60, Richard and wuvvum 3
spike60 Posted October 30, 2017 Posted October 30, 2017 What is the score on buying a car with no V5? I'm interested in one a dealer has, he retained £100 from the local guy he bought it from to ensure he got it. It is still taxed until April with the previous keeper currently in Switzerland so probably not about to do anything quickly.

hairymel Posted October 30, 2017 Posted October 30, 2017 wtf? my reply has had a FTP! i will type it out again then : as far as i am aware it is impossible to tax a car without the v5/new keepers green slip.this can lead to a 4/5 week wait for road legality , until the dvla has gone through the motions of writing to the previous owner and issuing your new v5. new v5 has a fee of £25 i think as well. if its still taxed i would get a receipt and a discount to cover getting a new v5 - dont forget as soon as it is in your name the tax will be voided spike60 1
Heidel_Kakao Posted October 30, 2017 Posted October 30, 2017 Do we have a dedicated thread for shitely requests? If not should we? I am bidding on something on eBay which is collection only and not nearby to myself

Matt Posted October 30, 2017 Posted October 30, 2017 When does a horn fail the MOT? To destupidify the question slightly, the S60's horn has gone from nice and punchy to a gnat farting in a cave. Is it measured on decibles or does it just have to make a noise to pass? Is it something I should rush to fix because it'll eventually go altogether (and be a definite failure) or can I prevaricate? I have a horn (2 actually) from a Pug 106 you can have for postage if you want. They're a bit 'meep meep' rather than 'oi cunt, stop it' but they work.

Matt Posted October 30, 2017 Posted October 30, 2017 Ah so that’s where the horns are sourced for National Express coaches - unbelievable how wimpy they sound for the size of the vehicle! I spent a bit of time trying to find an upgrade for my Swift as it had a pathetic little horn too. The FIAMM AM-80 and Mixo TR99 are both quite common with a high tone; I saw them in Peugeot's, MK4 Golf's and even a Tata Loadbeta... I found that the Volvo 850 has high and low variants of the Mixo TR99. Here's a little video put together comparing the stock horn, Peugeot 106 FIAMM's and the dual tone 850 Mixo's:Suzuki Horn vs FIAMM AM 80 vs Mixo TR99 by Matt S, on Flickr

I have only bid the starting bid of £4.99 as I don't really need it so chances are I will get outbid.
puddlethumper Posted October 30, 2017 Posted October 30, 2017 Does anyone know if a 305 van gearbox has different ratios to an estate ?
D Spares & Tyres Posted October 30, 2017 Posted October 30, 2017 So, say a car had some work done then the never collected it. 8 years has passed. Customer could no longer be contacted. What then? If it were to be sold, would that be theft? If the yard were to be sold you would have to move the car so what would you do with it? Not an entirely theoretical situation...
DodgeRover Posted October 30, 2017 Posted October 30, 2017 Garage needs to write to dvla and get details of recorded keeper.Recorded delivery letter to address saying pay up plus storage or it's going to be sold in 30 days to recoup costs. In 30 days buy from garage.Keep paper trailEnjoy Edit what is it, if you were to accidentally leave the yard unlocked it might be persuaded just to go away with the help of a Hiab that you know nothing about. rantingYoof Posted October 30, 2017 Posted October 30, 2017 I must confess, the horn isn't actually as broken as I thought it was. S60s are notoriously well sound-proofed and the horn has changed tone - to a higher pitch - so from inside the car it's become a lot 'softer' and feels like it's significantly quieter too. However, I decided to actually test it today in my parents' street, with the door open and leaning in through the window. It is plenty loud enough. DSdriver 1
bunglebus Posted October 30, 2017 Posted October 30, 2017 Probably has twin-tone horns, and the low note one has failed. rantingYoof 1
taxi paul Posted October 31, 2017 Posted October 31, 2017 Mercedes c 180 's seem cheap . Is there a reason. Is the 1.8 better than the 2.0 ltr . Petrol.
gordonbennet Posted October 31, 2017 Posted October 31, 2017 IIRC the 1.8 is a Mitsubishi engine, with an underspec single timing chain that needs to be changed at around 80k miles, which isn't going to be a £50 job so chances are few will have been done. taxi paul 1
Royale80 Posted October 31, 2017 Posted October 31, 2017 Phosphoric Acid You can buy 5 litres at 85% for around £15. Does it make good rust killer? I saw someone using it on tv the other day. Steve
stephen01 Posted October 31, 2017 Posted October 31, 2017 HGV tyres - what the legal minimum tread depth?
Heidel_Kakao Posted October 31, 2017 Posted October 31, 2017 HGV tyres - what the legal minimum tread depth?1mm, they get an extra 0.6mm of leeway compared to ye olde car users.
Eddie Honda Posted October 31, 2017 Posted October 31, 2017 same as motorcycles. Mopeds though just need a drawn on thread. DSdriver Posted October 31, 2017 Posted October 31, 2017 ...and buses and minibuses. That's nice to know, glad to hear schoolkids are being well cared for.
Guest Hooli Posted October 31, 2017 Posted October 31, 2017 You try getting a bus or coach to aquaplane, it's much more difficult than a car. Hence the lower tread requirement. mat_the_cat and AMC Rebel 2
The Moog Posted October 31, 2017 Posted October 31, 2017 Does anyone know if a 305 van gearbox has different ratios to an estate ?Normally diesels have different ratios to petrol and vans tend to have lower firsts than cars. What you looking to do??
