Nipple prob blocked . Take while nipple out and find tiny little holes near the taper at the bottom . Clear these with a pin or some mig wire and blow the whole thing through . Then grease and refit

Ah, spiffy.  I'll give that a go, both the Hiace and Puma have brand new brake fluid and it doesn't half make a difference.  The Octavia stops well enough in a straight line with new pads I fitted over Christmas but the pedal feels like it's attached to a bowl of mashed potato.

Has anyone bridged any batteries lately? I've got some decent ones but they're as good as cash than in a pile. Is it owt like £1 a kg?

A fiver a pop at my local scrappy. More for big ones.

Find somewhere that will actually pay weight rather than x per battery - I got a decent few quid for some the last time I went (more than I did for half a ton of mixed steel and it was before the prices crashed hard)

I've 35 of them, but they're all 10kg gel cell "racing" batteries. 90% of them work fine too - I was considering selling them on ebay at about £20 a pop (they're £150 new), but I don't have the time or inclination for it.

Weighed in a load of lead at £1 a kilo today

What's the spec on them?

Modern car foglights:

I keep seeing, particularly at roundabouts whereby one foglight will come on or go off or sometimes it will switch from left to right. I`ve seen this far too often lately for it to be faulty wiring or blown bulbs surely???

Any ideas what is going on?

Cornering lights. They light up when the wheel is turned to supposedly illuminate the corner you're turning into. Been around a while now...sold a 57 plate Clio last month that had them.

Well I never, how on earth has that passed me by????????? 57 plate not exactly modern is it really!

They are programmed to work with the steering. You quite often see cars with one light on all the time because the steering isn't adjusted properly.

I saw this today and wondered what was going on. ^^^^

Why do brake pads squeal sometimes when you brake? What is it that makes them squeal?

And as I found out moving MIL's i10, they illuminate the opposite way round in reverse.

Vibration.

Hence they get shims or copperslip to prevent it.

A standard 2-pin mechanical  flasher unit has the polarity ("B" and "L") marked on the base.  Why does it matter, technically speaking?

I got in the 406 this morning to go to work and found the clutch pedal flat on the floor. I lifted it back into the normal position and the car seems to drive ok. I've left it parked out of town and got the bus into work, I didn't fancy getting stranded in city centre traffic.

I had a quick look under the bonnet, there doesn't appear to be a seperate clutch fluid reservoir, the brake fluid is full. where should I start looking ?

the car only has to survive until Monday when it is getting traded in anyway, hopefully I can nurse it through the weekend.

How many cca are they? Could be interested in a few maybe, do they need a special charger?

Edit,

If they're the Extreme 35's you've linked to then the CCA is 380. Do you have a heavy discharge tester to hit them with?

What battery connections do you use with them, is there an adaptor to go to normal posts?

Maybe interested in more as i've just messaged someone who is building a powerbank, will they cope with slow discharge like a leisure battery as well as fast?

Edit 2 just heard back, if 380 CCA can you give me a price for 8 good uns please, not sure if possible to courier down south but would be handy if poss.

Didn't we talk about these a few weeks back as they are what is in jump starters? I'd be interested in one or two probably if that was the case.

Regards to the batteries, in hindsight I'll have to double check with work if I'm OK to flog em, they might be funny with it.  But yeah, they'll start trucks and buses

My 1973 Cadillac has cornering lights.  Naturally Cadillacs had them from the 60s, or possibly even 50s (I have none of my reference books to hand here but Junkman will know).  They consist of a white light in the side of the front wing, that illuminates when the lights are on and you indicate, to light the kerb you are following.

57 Clio indeed.... that's practically a new car!

I think it's fed from the brake fluid reservoir and the cylinder is above the pedal so if it's dry around there and no signs of leakage it could be the fluid pushing past the seal inside the cylinder

it got me home from work no problem tonight, I'll see how it is in the morning and maybe take the mazda to work instead. I'll be happy as long as it makes it to the garage on monday to be traded in (at a small 'profit' over what I paid a couple of months ago)

Profit is always good.

I made 100% profit today, if you go on purchase price & forget repair costs.

a whopping £50 more than I paid for it (minus £2 for a headlight bulb and £10 for a couple of bits of trim from the scrappies)

I did think of offering it for sale / roffle on here but I jokingly asked the bloke at the dealers what he would give me for it and I was quite suprised. he won't be so pleased when he discovers the mil light, the abs light and the now suspect clutch but, by that time, I plan to be down the road with a squeal of tyre smoke in a shiney new* civic spaceship.

*57 plate, that's only 10 years old, how decadent :)

I would like to look into fitting a water temp gauge and rev counter to the c15. The same engine is used in cars with a tach and a coolant temp gauge so should not be too much of in issue. I would like to know where the temp gauge sensor should be on this engine though? That way I can see if it has a blanking plug on it or even a unconnected sensor. Thanks

Is yours XUD 1.9na?  if so then in the fuel filter heated mounting/base   but I've taken to fitting a drilled brass bolt and one of these Chinese £2 jobbies to any French diesel parked nearby.
