I took the corrosion's stereo out as I want to plug in an aux lead so I can play my iPod through it.

At the back there is a 13 pin C-bus DIN socket which I can plug in an aux cable... but I find this odd as the car is a 1991 model, and predates CD autochangers (this type of connection is what Kenwood units have). If I plug a cable in, will I get my ipod music or is it not worth the hassle?

If you plug-in via an aux input the stereo would output the sound but you would have to still use your phone's touchscreen controls.

Why does welding not stick?

I'm trying to weld a bolt to a snapped off stud in the turbine housing outlet on my subaru.

I'm using brand new non-plated non-stainless nuts and cleaning the end of the stud with a file.

It looks like it's welded on but the nut just spins and the weld clearly hasn't stuck/penetrated.

Welder is on max, earth clamp is attached to a cleaned up bit of the actuator bracket about 6 inch away.

Do we have any shiters involved in sign making / print ? I'm thinking about getting some vinyl stickers printed to brand up my loan car.

cavcraft had some made for his van did he not?

Sometimes lately I find the stanky mostly diesel reek of traffic fumes is interrupted with a paraffin smell, just like an old Calor heater, am I having episodes or are people running on the stuff?

I've got a vinyl cutter, what do you need?

People have been running on it for years, mainly older diesels but I used to see one old chap going past regularly in my younger days in Something old British and petrol which always used to smell of kero, a low compression landrover petrol will run on it too if you warm it up on petrol then switch over, you need to empty the carb to restart if it cools down with it full of kero though.

It's been known to be sold in the pub as cheap white diesel too.

Any good rodent control ideas? I have several cars in a farm barn that has just become a rat hotel. They've moved in as the harvest activities have taken their food from the field, to the adjacent farm buildings.

Just a matter of time before they start to make a king size bed out of my car upholstery. Nibble on the wires and hoses too.

Mice had a good chew on anything plastic under the allegro' s bonnet during its last hibernation.

Lots of poison (find out which ones are still working in your area) and a trap line, if you have the time you can improve your accuracy with an air rifle.

I have noticed that and wondered if it's modern (synthetic) engine oil burning? turbo on the way out etc.

Sounds like there's a Land Rover product in the vicinity

Pretty much anything with the 2.7v6 diesel and later has a fuel burning heater fitted, used to bring the engine up to temp quicker

The exhaust for these is open to air ,coming through the n/s wheel arch and they do stink

Now early morning temps are dropping they can be triggered automatically

Why would an entire rear cluster fail on a Mk2B Punto? It just flashed up a warning on the dash and now nothing works in the cluster.

I've not had a look yet but it would be good to know where to start.

Can anybody identify this 'TM' logo please? I have just got my newly purchased Omega back from the garage and whilst trying all the knobs and switches I discovered this mystery one. I am thinking some sort of aftermarket sat-nav but nothing happens when I press it. Any info greatly appreciated, thanks.

old TrafficMaster system.

It needed a subscription and would blurt out updates on traffic jams in your area through the speakers.

Defunct now.

Traffic Master . It's supposed to warn you of nearby traffic issues. I think it used those blue cameras you see on trunk roads.

It was a subscription service and I'm not sure if you can still subscribe. I killed it in both the cars I've had with it.

Earth pin on the back of the cluster corroded / burnt away . Solder a separate wire from the earth track of the board to the body

I had that in my old Citroën c5. Only when you stalled it did the voice shout at you.

I had a look this afternoon, everything looked fine. I plugged the cluster back in and the bulb failure warning was still on, but only telling me about the brake light this time. I replaced the brake light bulb and the warning cleared even before I'd pressed the brake. It seems that the brake light bulb blew and the car decided to shut down the whole cluster. I suppose I'm doing well if that's all the electrical randomness I get from a 12 year old Fiat.

who came up with Autoshite's strapline 'your motoring is our concern'?

On a car check what is meant by a VIC marker? Is that just an outstanding identity check?

It means Bob Mortimer once owned it.

I'm sure it's been mentioned before, but is there mileage in having a sticky for who's got what in terms of specialist tools?

Frixample; Say somebody had a cam-locking kit for a KV6 and was willing to lend it out for beer and a hug, this could be listed.

I've got a pretty big pair of ramps but precious little else to offer; but I'd put 'em on a list for sure.

Borrower collects and returns; status updated to show whether something is currently out on loan and who's got it; kind of name and shame if things stay out for an unexpectedly lavish duration.

Just a thought.

Am I mad to think about gutting my Panda and using the shell as an office / kitchen area in my workshop?

It's going to the scrappers otherwise and I could do with a less dusty area for paperwork and coffee

There was a thread along these lines a while back,  a few folks with proper stuff and lots of us with basic tools and sympathy if you breakdown nearby.

It's the proper stuff that's interesting. Theoretically, if that thread was easy to find the AS on-board search engine would make it navigable. You could search for, I don't know, "hub extractor" or whatever and see who's got one and lives in the same hemisphere as you.

I've already done the earth wire mod on the driver's side (I think or it could be the passenger but I'm pretty sure it's the driver's side). I fitted a bullet connector to it as well so you can still remove the cluster. I tried cleaning the earth pin up and coating it with silicon grease but the fault kept coming back. The jumper wire cleared it. Did I read you were having problems with the clutch juddering or did I imagine it?
