How on earth do you effectively stick rear view mirrors back on? Superglue, Araldite and thos 'special' little sticker pad things from Halfords always seem to lead to fail when I try then. Short of using No More Nails I'm stumped, any ideas please?

I thought the last car to have pop-ups was some sort of Ferrari?

Isn't it the same thinking that led to Land-Rover deleting the bulkhead vents on the Defenders? I asked the question when I was at Lode Lane about 4 years ago, just wondered if it was some sort of health and safety issue like the "power bulge" on the bonnet...

Re: Dash vents. They were deleted because they are all fitted with Aircon these days. Prior to the change, the flaps were deleted and had plastic infills when AC was specified. I prefer flaps.

Regular araldite can cause the screen to shatter so best use the proper stuff unless your screen is rubbish and could do with replacing.

The sticky pads from a Ford spares dept. are said to be far superior to any other.

Are you sure they're all fitted with aircon these days? I thought it was purely because of the new dashboard design that no longer had vent spaces. I have no idea if they do all have aircon these days, but I can't see Welsh farmers really wanting it.

Billy - the best way to replace a fallen-off mirror is to simply visit a friendly windscreen specialist. The one in the CX fell off and they kindly just stuck it back on for me. Didn't even charge!

I've usually found those Loctite kits with the mesh and the little tube of glue to be pretty good, although they're overpriced for what they are. I did once manage to buy a properly sticky pad from a local motor factor which held the mirror onto the screen, but there was so much give in the pad that the mirror jiggled around all over the place, which quickly got annoying.

I used that 5 quid glue and mesh thing. It fell off the first bump I drive over - rubbish!

Worth taking it to one if this free windscreen repair places in Cheshire oaks car park and ask them to do it or at least advise!

What would make my skoda felicia 1.3 spi overfuel slightly?

Have changed the coolant sensor but it's not great and it's still idling high.

Would valve clearances make a difference? It has quietened down a lot tbh.

There aren't a lot of electronics on the car.

The ones that come in a pack of two? That tells you all you need to know. The genuine Ford ones work, come singly and cost less.

dollywobbler is right about the Defender's bulkhead flaps - it's because there would be no way to operate them (and nowhere for the air to flow) with the current dash. You can still spot an A/C fitted Defender by the extended snout to clear the condenser and fans.

I hadn't actually thought that this is the opposite to how it used to be - the old A/C kits took up all the dash parcel space and made the flaps redundant.

Bulkhead flaps and a Safari Roof FTW.

Thanks gents, will try a local windscreen firm I think.

Will the house insurance cover it? We're claiming anyway, to get the roof fixed - so they might as well buy me a new back window and a few litres of paint. I don't mind doing the work myself like, I was going to paint the bounder sometime soon anyway.

No, because the van is 'more specifically insured' under its own motor policy.

This is the truth. Even extends to stuff like TVs, computers etc that have an extended warranty covering accidental damage, your house insurers will ask that you claim on any loss or damage to those seperately.

Why are some cars advertised for sale at seemingly random odd prices, such as £3,891?

Posted

^'Cos it makes you look. Seriously - you expect to see a forecourt full of priceboards showing £xx,x99, you actually see £xx,x91, it makes you look again. Which is half the battle as far as the sales staff are concerned.

Posted

and, it makes it come up earlier in the search.... before all the £x995 ones.

My mate's father, now retired, used to own a small chain of jewellery shops. He used to get the local paper to print his adverts upside down. Worked, too, as it got people talking.

When Citizen announced a new range of "Guaranteed Shockproof" watches, he turfed one off the battlements of Carrickfergus Castle to see if it was true (it was). Made the local TV news.

Does any remember any old Olympic edition cars? I seem to remember there was an Olympic Edition Nissan sunny but I can't find anything on google.

Posted

Many moons ago, round our way there was a special 'Olympic' edition Hyundai Stellar.

It was red and it was F reg - it had the olympic rings on the boot. In 1988 the Olympics were held in Seoul, so that would be the reasoning behind it.

Also. Can you use Gunk in those electric bench top parts washers :?::?::?::?::?:

Not a special edition as far as I know, but I remember the official car of the '92 Barcelona games was the Toledo:

Of course we all remember the Italia '90 for the world cup...

Edit; I just found the "Trojan"...

I wonder what was the official car of the 1980 Moscow Olympics was?

If there was one, it's sure to be solid gold shite.

Yes. In fact there's loads of shit you can put in them inc. petrol and thinners though eventually they'll have an adverse effect on the pump, not to mention the use of highly inflammable liquids and the use of electricity.

Gunk should be fine, ditto paraffin, though I'd not want to water the gunk down too much.

This V70 is rolling on 740 alloys isn't it? It isn't just me?

It is. That doesn't look too bad, but I'm sure the offset will be RONG if my experience of our 850 is anything to go by. (They stick out too far and touched the arches on bumps, also it just felt shit to drive.)

What's the estate car used in the Lynx TV ad where the geezer builds the ark?

KruJoe... is that a friend of yours in the picture with the white Panda?

Just wanted to check before I start going "cor blimey", "phwoar" and other pervy stuff.

Petrol will kill a cheap pump in no time. And will explode a lot.
