Probably not - it's more than 30cm from the suspension tower and not a hazard to pedestrians because it's under the bonnet. I'm assuming that the rest of the inner wing is ok and the headlamp isn't about to drop out.

How important is it to have trailing arm bushes in good condition? What's the worst that could happen if you drive around with worn out ones?

Camber change mid corner unseats the back end, you clip the verge and it fires you roof-first into a tree, you snap your neck and spend the rest of your life paralysed from the eyebrows down.

Or it could wear tyres out quickly.

Place bets now.

Anyone ever replaced the horn on a 2003 Blingo?

<looks eastward toward Ruffgeezer...> :)

I'm hoping there's a way to do it without removing the bumper, because that scares the shit out of me.

Yup, unplugged the old one and pulled the wires through to behind the front of the wheel arch liner and mounted the new one there :-P

Missis has a grande punto and it's great little car . Slower than Moses dog with the 1.2 8v fire but otherwise it's nice to drive and economical / practical too

Lots of nearly this:

Camber change mid corner unseats the back end, you clip the verge and it fires you roof-first into a tree, you snap your neck and spend the rest of your life paralysed from the eyebrows down.

Which causes the hole in the trailing arm itself to become enlarged and misshapen so that when you eventually get a garage to take the bush out they can't get the new one (or for old one because it's mullered) in, so the car is stuck on their ramp until you pay them £350 plus labour to fit a whole new trailing arm or you persuade them to bodge it back together on the promise that you won't drive it anywhere, then you scrap it and buy a rusty Mercedes.

Not to mention the toe changing randomly over bumps so the rear steers where it feels like. Especially fun mid corner when it decides you really want a few degrees of rear steering like a forklift.

And then the tyre digs in and the camber changes to boot...

Did Haynes ever do a book of lies for the Volvo 960?

I assume not, as I can't find one - in which case, what's going to be of most use to me? A manual for a 760, for a 940, or a V70?

Posted

Those broad Chilton manuals aren't very helpful.

Old Volvos are well supported by online guides.

one for beko

The missus wants an lightweight, probably upright hoover that can cope with pet hair and toddler detritus.

henry is too big and clumsy for hauling up and down the stairs lots and doesn't store neatly in the understair cupboard, so he's been demoted to the garage.

What should we get?

Are orecks of infomercial fame any good?

Ford Fiesta 1.4 duratec (2004) - misfires like a bastard. Coolant in the spark plug wells (not just water from leaking washer jets.

Coolant is very clean as is the oil so my initial fear of head gasket doesn't stand up

Not done a compression test or sniff test yet but will do shortly

Thoughts? Another quality* auction purchase?

Core plugs / big grub screws under the rocker cover leaking

Excellent news, I'll get the rocker cover off and have a look!

Can't readily find replacements online so I assume it's a Ford main dealer job

Is the Rover 400 shape Civic known for trailing arm bushes going, or is it something else?

Would that cause the rear end to slide to the left when going round roundabouts?

Posted

Yup ta bushes go quite often on those . Good earner when I was at Honda ! Used to get 1.4 hrs a side book time and if you couldn't do them both in half an hour you were doing something wrong .

If you can afford it go for genuine bushes cos they fit much easier than pattern parts . Grind a smal chamfer on the bush and don't lube up the outer at all . Small taps with the hammer until they are started otherwise they will rock and pop back out again
