If I want to strengthen my coolant a bit but don't feel like flushing the entire system on a cold street full of broken bottle pieces, is it a good plan to use this to just empty the expansion tank , give the inside a bit of a clean then fill it with neat antifreeze, or am I missing a serious trick?

On a different topic, does anyone else think that the back bumper of the Ford Corsair looks as though it is on upside down?

If it bothered you that much get it reported, someone must regulate Sheffield's taxis (council, p'raps?) - I'm sure a jibe aimed the other way would be picked up quickly enough.

If such a sticker exists, I'd be offended. Labelling someone or their opinion as "racist" simply because they question something like this is unhelpful, and devalues the term for use in its proper context.

It seems that these days anyone who is winning an argument with a liberal is labelled a racist/facist/conspiracy theorist. Example: my OH was called a "facist" for her views on the behaviour of the protesters at Dale Farm. Aside from the fact that she's the kindest and gentlest person I have ever met, she is also Jewish on her father's side. If she truly was a facist, that would be pretty "unorthodox", wouldn't it.

Just my opinion, but it seems to me that white people aren't allowed to be offended anymore.

Quick question, can someone feel me in on Hillman Super Minxs roughly 1962 models with the 1592cc engines.

I've just see one for sale locally and it looks quite nice.

Rust the main one and listen to the engine for knocking etc and make sure you hear it start from cold for a noisy oil pump. Clutches can be a problem so check for smooth non juddery action.

Isn't said queen German anyway? Confusing stuff.

Stupid question of the day: What is the point of wiper spoilers, and should they be fitted on the passenger side (as I thought they should) or on the driver side (as the Hellfrauds catalogue suggested- incidentally I only went there to have a giggle at the prices- they wanted more for one Bosch blade than I paid for a pair of the exact same type on wiperblades.co.uk)?

Posted

They are fitted to the drivers side and are designed to keep the blade stuck to the screen when travelling.

Posted

Interesting...why would one of the blades be more likely to lift than the other?

I know the spoiler is to stop it lifting, however I too would like to know the above.

I used to have these on me 2.8 special back in the day. They made no diference after about 80mph though.

The drivers side one is the one you view through the most, hence why it's more important to have one on that side.

Fairly often, I slice a hole in my hand on a bit of sharp metal, or a stanley blade.

It's always the "razor" type cut that's super clean, and fairly deep - You know the one that doesn't hurt, but if you pull it apart its actually quite deep, and as such wants to bleed a lot.

I usually just wipe it off with some thinners (to sterilize it) and superglue it up, then get on with things (wasn't superglue designed to seal wounds in 'Nam or something?). Within a few minutes I'm back doing whatever I've been doing. The superglue usually falls off a couple of days later, leaving barely a mark.

Anyway, I thought this was a common thing to do, but everyone who sees me do it thinks that I'm some kind of idiot.

1: Am I an idiot?

2: Can you buy that special glue they use in A+E? It seems to stick better.

Posted

Don't thinners contain isocyanates? Can't imagine them doing you much good chief. Have you ever experienced thinners in the eye by the way? Fark me that stings a bit.

I think it's the hardener that has the isocyanates in. I use celly thinners cos AFAIK it's often just acetone?

Thinners in the eye is bad shit, but spray glue was even worse, cos while you are swearing holding your eye shut, it's stedily being stuck shut, so once the solvents evaporate (which takes ages cos your eye is stuck shut), you've got to peel the bugger open, removing 90% of eyelashes.

Posted

I don't know where I heard this but I believe yer regular superglue is dumbed down somewhat, the original stuff was just too effective to be let loose on the public. Maybe that's what A+E uses.

Posted

& doesn't military quality superglue have anti-septic in it?

edit - I typed this & thought, I'll check - no mention anywhere, so I guess it doesn't.

What sort of mpg would you get out of something like this:

http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/3385093.htm

I'm looking into picking some stuff up so need to know how much is worth picking up taking into consideration the fuel costs etc. :)

Registration Number: NL03WUR

Registration Date: 13.03.2003

Registration Country: GB

Primary Features

Build Date: 13.01.2003

Vehicle Line: Transit 2000-2006

Cab Style: Regular Cargo Van

Series: 350M Series

Engine: 2.4L Duratorq DI (90PS)

Transmission: 5-Speed Manual Transmission - MT75

Drive: RHD RWD

Axle Ratio: 5.13

Emission: Light Duty Truck Stage III

Territory: (+)"GB"

Paint: Diamond White 73

Interior Fabric: Stylize (-I-C)

Net says.

Average fuel economy of 32mpg is achievable and consumption doesnt fluctuate too wildly whether youre around town (24mpg urban average) or on longer trips (39mpg extra urban average).

Posted

So roughly for example a round trip of 276miles would use 8.63 gallons costing £54.85 or thereabouts?

So even half a van of stock would net a profit. :)
