Asimo Posted October 25, 2015 Posted October 25, 2015 Coil springs: what is the best way to re-finish / protect old coil springs? The obvious is blast clean and powder coat but does the cleaning not add to the damage already done by rust and time?
Louise2cv Posted October 26, 2015 Posted October 26, 2015 Is it me or does anyone else wonder if we might be about to find out what eccentric-richard's dad actually thought about stuff, but this time FROM the horse's mouth? Lacquer Peel and The Moog 2

mossymossy Posted October 26, 2015 Posted October 26, 2015 I remember a few moons ago, setting off for work, coming to a set of traffic lights. I wanted to turn right, lights were changing to red. I gunned the car and and sort of jumped the lights, well did jump the lights. I was on a narrow back lane and out of nowhere cop car right up my a??e. Oh shit got me! There was nowhere to pull in, so I trundled along at five mph for the next couple of hundred metres. Ah bingo a small layby. I pulled over and the cop car went screaming past. They were on a shout. I still wonder if they thought I was holding them up on purpose. Craig the Princess 1
FakeConcern Posted October 26, 2015 Posted October 26, 2015 My stupid question for today. I'm fitting a washing mashine & a dishwasher next to each other, is there some way to share the waste outlet so I only need one hole through the outside wall?

willswitchengage Posted October 26, 2015 Posted October 26, 2015 Wouldn't the best way of winning by a game of football is for a player to have the ball and the rest of the players make a human barrier around the player? I'm fitting a washing mashine & a dishwasher next to each other, is there some way to share the waste outlet so I only need one hole through the outside wall? Yes, screwfix and the like do plenty of stuff.Does your existing washing machine exit straight outside or does it go into the sink trap? Sink trap is easiest, you can just get a double adaptor for that like this If it goes outside, I'm pretty sure you need a trap there too so I guess the same applies. Just read the instructions for both washer and dishwasher to see what the minimum heights for the outlet hose are, if you let it sag it'll hold onto waste water and stink. If it's too high the pump might struggle to empty the sump. I've done this with my appliances into an IKEA sink, unfortunately those pesky Swedes have weird sinks which sit very low so I've got all sorts of issues with it draining. FakeConcern 1

TataBobu Posted October 26, 2015 Posted October 26, 2015 There's also this bit, available in 40 mm and 35(?) mm flavour: http://www.timelyshop.ro/710-616-large/ramificatie-pp-45-y-110-x-50.jpg

I still wonder if they thought I was holding them up on purpose.Far back in the midst of time when I'd just passed my bike test and was on a CX500 I had some traffic cops decide to pull me over for no discernible reason. As I was going down quite a narrow and twisty hill I thought I'd carry on a bit to where I knew there was somewhere to pull in. The cops weren't having any of it though, and cut in front of me almost knocking me off. Seems they thought I was making a run for it, yeah right, at 30 mph. Twats.

The ball is in there somewhere. Ken Owens has it, apparently. Note lack of girly pretending-to-be-injured behaviour. [/troll] alf892 and Taff 2
Taff Posted October 27, 2015 Posted October 27, 2015 I had a weird experience where a fire engine had joined the M1 at 21 South, wanting to get to 20. That's a long way, its about 10 miles but they can't really go much above 65-70mph so for ten minutes I had them about a mile behind me, I carried on just finding it really weird I wasn't pulling over. in a similar vein, I was in a contraflow on the M25 when a police car roared up behind me. I was on cruise control at 50mph with this Volvo on my rear bumper with the passenger making hand gestures at me, wondering quite what my legal standing was. Ever one to give something new a go, I nailed the company 320 up to 90-odd until the cones ran out and then slowed as the Volvo whizzed by. never heard anything. It's a bit scary having cones zip past you when traveling that fast though Grand idea, but then there would be a danger of it turning into a proper game, i.e. rugby, where this is called a maul. The ball is in there somewhere. Ken Owens has it, apparently. Note lack of girly pretending-to-be-injured behaviour. [/troll] I checked my laptop history after Taff Junior had been using it. All that was on there was YouTube clips of Alun-Wyn Jones, Paul O'Connell, Ollie Roumat, Bakkies Botha & Brodie Retallick. Not even a sniff of porn, I was so disappointed... Louise2cv Posted October 27, 2015 Posted October 27, 2015 Pretty sure the cops were being very naughty to do that. Hmmm It's one of my panics, especially with the endless contraflow works permanently* in place on the A55. They have average speed cameras now so I'm afraid he'd have to keep flapping his arms at me!! Taff and myglaren 2
dollywobbler Posted October 27, 2015 Posted October 27, 2015 I'd hope they'd let me off - like if you have to cross the line at a red light to let an emergency vehicle pass. Taff 1
beko1987 Posted October 27, 2015 Posted October 27, 2015 If you get done by average cameras though, plod wont be able to quash it cos you were doing them a favour, the fine comes from elsewhere automatically

Louise2cv Posted October 27, 2015 Posted October 27, 2015 I'd hope they'd let me off - like if you have to cross the line at a red light to let an emergency vehicle pass.According to what I've read in my extensive* research, you shouldn't cross the line at a red light. The only exception is if a policeman specifically directs you to do so.

Louise2cv Posted October 27, 2015 Posted October 27, 2015 The emergency vehicle can only overtake on a solid white line if the vehicle has stopped completely, yes... but the solid white is usually there because of problems with visability or safely overtaking. Also I think lacquer peel was highlighting the difference with coming to a safe stop and slamming on. Everything I have read on police website, drivers association website about this says pretty much the same thing. You are responsible for managing the situation safely and legally. Lacquer Peel 1
Eddie Honda Posted October 27, 2015 Posted October 27, 2015 but the solid white is usually there because some Brian Coat down at the council has shares in a paint firm. FTFY alf892 1
