Petrol has been cheaper than diesel around here for several years.

Petrol's been cheaper than diesel for many years now, there seems to be proper big gap now though and it's come about in the last month or so.

Derv is nearly 12p a liter more expensive round here at the minute!

Correct. Edited for the correct level of caddishness

I paid just* £118.7 a litre at the weekend, I can't recall when it last that cheap.

I'm replacing the engine on a 2004 Peugeot Partner van. Im ditching the hateful.DW8 and putting a 1.9XUD in it.

On the exhaust manifold there is this pointless looking thing bolted on.attachicon.gifIMG_20181128_150426.jpg

What is the point of it? I've seen it on quite a few cars but never really questioned it

It's some kind of resonator. The one on my 305 had a hole in it so I fitted a flat plate in its place, with no apparent ill effects.

A resonator I think. It'll remove some boominess at certain revs.

Why is petrol suddenly 10p cheaper than diesel?

Because winter.

Taxation is different here in RoI and diesel is cheaper. There was a point in the last few of years when it was nearly the same price as pez. Something to do with heating oil demand. In summer, diesel might be 10-14 eurocent cheaper than petrol. At the moment, it is only 6 eurocent cheaper.

So I guess in the UK diesel will be fooking expensive in winter and not so fooking expensive in summer compare to petril.

Seems to have dropped significantly in a couple of weeks which is fantastic news for idiots with cars that do 20* MPG

When hardly anyone used diesel it was cheaper but now when everyone's* using it it's more expensive. Funny that!

I was told it was a particle trap

If that is true then I reckon it must be pretty full by now!!

Posted

I thought they carbon particle traps and on the exhaust manifold to get very hot after a while of engine running so the soot produces on startup etc.  gets trapped then burns off in the unused oxygen in the exhaust gas.

You need about 590 deg C or more to burn soot, I doubt a NA 1.9D would get that hot there ever. Resonator sounds plausible.

Has there ever been a car where the rear quarter panel & lights hinge out of the way e.g. to the sides to give better access to the boot?

I can't think of one offhand.

Not sure where to post this but im looking for somebody who can edit or photoshop a photo for me, its a friends car that I have finished restoring this year and I have a photo of it in the sun but want it made into a wintery snowy scene.

I have seen this can be done on youtube but dont have the software or computer skills needed.

Beer tokens will be available for anybody who can help with this.

Anybody recommend a decent 3 legged puller? Don't need top quality one but on the other hand don't want something that after its first outing looks like Uri Geller had used it.

You won't go far wrong with anything from Sykes-Pickavant. They're not the cheapest, but they're good.

No, I'm think more this sort of idea:

or like that?

Is that a mainframe car PC?

Nope, not like any of those... I mean where the light units and/or rear quarter panels behind the rear wheels swivel out of the way, allowing better access to the sides of the boot to make loading bulky items easier.

More like this, but with improved access to the sides & less champers & foie gras:

How about this ?

Apparently there is a bit of storage at the sides but it is mostly engine.
