Ford Galaxy just got written off thanks to someone running a red light :(

What is the longest lasting hardest wearing estate (or mpv) under £2000?

Are there any Shite meets in the Scotchland area coming up?

I have the Scottish All Rover Rally penciled in at the end of next month that should have a couple of shiters in attendance.

The way I see it, if it gets you a year or two from it and you get say £150 scrap, you've done well. Buy it, spend the minimum then run until it drops. Any shenanigans like clutch fails or big ticket jobs then fuck it off.

so do you think as it has just been mot'ed the engine light is not something to worry about?

If it runs fine and doesn't do anything untoward, then yes at this money I wouldn't worry unduly.

Evening shiters.

Would Steel Seal (K-Seals gangsta big brother) be likely to have an adverse effect on a water-cooled turbocharger?

Posted

Obviously the police officer in that quote was unaware electrically operated trailer brakes are illegal for use in the UK, hence the ball ache of trying to make USA market caravans legal here...

Is that why Airstreams are now being made in 'ull by Swift for UK use ?

Posted

Used K Seal loads of times and had no problems. If its a simple fix then you might as well sort it properly but on a banger or for something that will be a pain its good stuff.

not so... 2012 ford galaxy. Not my car, my mother's car (she's ok)

Someone turned right at crossroads and apparently missed the 2 tonnes of finest Ford in their peripheral vision. Galaxy then T boned the guy's CMax and then ended up in a ditch where it impaled a fence

Parents looking to downsize as no need for 7 seats now... potentially looking to get something older to replace as they only need something large for a few more years until they move :)

C4 failed its MOT on emissions again - looks like I'm going to have to bite the bullet and buy a new cat if I want to get it back on the road.  There's no way the car is worth forking out for a new OEM cat, and buying a second hand one is a risk I'm not willing to take.

There are plenty of aftermarket cats on eBay at a variety of prices - obviously I'm looking very much at the bottom end.  The cheapest one I've found is 55 quid, but is it likely to be any good?  I can't see how you can make and sell a functioning cat, with all the exotic materials it needs, for that sort of money.

I wonder if this is where all the recycled catalytic converters go?

Ford lickers

The Mk1 Sierra came with these rims as standard, be them naked or under those aero wheeltrims

attachicon.gifSierra.jpg

And so did the Mk1 Orion Ghia i, but underneath these trims

Whilst the rest of the Orion range including the NA 1.6 Ghia had these rims, just like the Escort

Why do this? I know the 1.6i Ghia was a performance version, but were there any benefits of putting RWD Sierra rims on a FWD car? I can only think it has to do with offering better handling.

I've wanted to know this for 25+ years.

My first thought would be the Sierra rims are wider or have a different offset. From faint memory the 1.6i had 175 or 185 tyres & the smaller versions 155s so a wider rim makes sense.

Anyone know anything about this Volvo graveyard in the vicinity of Falkirk? Drove by it a fair few times, think there's possibly even more cars there than in the street view from 6 years back.

Posted

I stumbled across it a while back and posted the same question here - apparently it belongs to 'Volvo Jim' who is well known amongst boxy swede fans - I'm not sure if he actually breaks the cars or just hordes them for fun. he had a mk1 mx5 sitting gathering moss last time I passed by, I was tempted to stop and see if he was about to say hello but I was having too much fun hooning :)

The car two in front of the lorry (the one in front of the Rootes Hunter type motor) is that a Cavalier coupe or are my eyes mistaking me?

It looks like it BUT it would seem very incongruous given all the other chod in the picture.  Every single other car is from the 50s and 60s. EDIT - except I think the P5 might be 1970.  I would certainly date the pic as late 60's/very early 70s - could the mystery car be an Aston? Edited some more - I reckon it's an early Audi Coupe - the 1969-76 series.

The roofline looks more like the later Bond Equipe to me.

No black panel between back lights though?

*Edit also car in picture seems to have black strip on back bumper, so possibly not the Bond?

*Edit again: back lights don't seem to match Audi or Bond either.

Thanks for the input though.
