Magic wand straight cut gearbox for a mini, anyone interested? Also Hi Torque mini starter motor.

Posted

You want fine mech ones or would a course set do you? I've a set of bluepoint ones at work that i'd part with.

Good question, I think I'd be interested in either, if you want to give me a posted price and a pic that would be grand. Cheers.

I think that 71 Ebay car is a spam listing,it keeps getting listed but does look nice, needs to loose the S alloys though...

I,ve owned over 30 mk1/2 over the years and saved a lot from the scrapyard and broken a few for spares and I,am talking over a 30 year period, from right eyesores to show winners, but that's all behind me,i just want a nice presentable car,i can have my Dads MK1 but theres the repainting issues...(another thread!)fancy a late MK1 or an early MK2 but must be manual,i can,t get on with the autos(I have owned them)will keep looking...

Instead of buying another and (realistically in today's market) spending £2k+, why not spend that getting your dad's one resprayed? Especially if that car has emotional attachment to you.

Posted

Yes that is also an option that has gone through my mind, but I think a proper respray will run into 3-4k,but would eliminate any painting issues I have to face?

Posted

Maybe have a ask around for a few quotes and check their work. Difference is, it's not a Triumph 2000 you'd have resprayed, it's your dad's Triumph 2000. Also will be securing a bit of longevity to it.

A really nice Triumph 2000 is now well above 3-4k.

Xsara Picasso 54 plate for sale down the road from me, £495 tested until sept, 2.0 hdi AFAIK. I'll get number if anyone wants it

 it's not a Triumph 2000 you'd have resprayed, it's your dad's Triumph 2000.

This.  Ask Danthecapriman, the emotional investment easily outweighs the practicalities.

Edited to add: if I could find my dad's mk3 Zephyr I would go as far as selling Huggy to pay for it, even if it needed total restoration.  It was only the 4-pot, but DWM 95C is the one I remember from my childhood, that he owned from new, therefore it would be worth the effort.

I have a requirement for 5m of car wiring cable in 10 colours. Has anyone got reels of cable in lots of colours that they could snip some off of? I'm happy to pay for it but ordering short lengths of lots of cable (rather than miles of one colour) is a right chore.

ideally something like 0.2mm 6amp wire ought to be plenty. Its to wire up some stuff on the Geep, I'm going to remake the loom. doing this with all one colour will work, but be massively short-sighted.

12 colours by the meter Sir?

From this posting no one has a clue what you are after !!!

But did I see a similar posting on a different page asking for an Astra ???

If so when I went to reply to it it came up as "not authorised to access this page" or something along those lines .

Is this something Admin can assist with please .

If you were after an Astra I might know of one but don't understand what model , shape you mean (especially now I can't see the proper listing )

Cheers

Morning all.

Not sure if anyone can help with this but I'm after a workshop/repair manual or suchlike, for a 1999 Daihatsu Sirion. 1.0l auto.

It's me ma n pa's pride and joy but it's showing it's age in places now and has sprung a slow leak on the coolant system.

Local garage that my dad trusts have said it appears to be at a union where three hoses meet, but there didn't look like enough slack to trim them all and reattach (or something to that effect).

They also said they were struggling to find a place to supply old Daihatsu parts so I thought I'd take up the challenge and at least try and find the bits, even if it looks like it might be too bigger job for me.

The Daihatsu web page says they're no longer trading in the UK but a skeleton aftersales network is still available and shows a a place in Stoke not a million miles from me.  But without dragging the car up there, which I'd rather not in case it shoots it load over the M6, I'm going to need part numbers.

As such, a manual or something that shows the part numbers on the water system would be a great help if anyone knows of such a thing?

I found a hose diagram for something called a Daihatsu Hijet van which appeared to share the same engine http://servimg.com/image_preview.php?i=151&u=16807060  but of course, I'm just guessing here.

Anyroad, any help will be greatly received :-)

Cheers

I don't know of a manual, but I found Panda Motors helpful when I had my Sirion. They still have links with International Motors who imported the Daihatsus (and still bring Subaru and Isuzu in to the UK I think). They were able to order up things like brake caliper sliders etc.

http://www.pandamotors.net/contact-us

They appear to be an MG dealer these days, but despite having a good record of backing the wrong horse, they're a decent bunch.

For Daihatsu Sirion parts try Ebay seller patch2spots, he's up near Lancaster and used to break Sirions: https://www.ebay.co.uk/usr/patch2spots

Facebook group "Daihatsu Performance enthusiasts" might be able to point you in the direction of someone who could help, possibly in Malaysia.

Oh, and Impex ... https://en.impex-jp.com/catalogs.html

If they can't help let me know I have a couple of contacts in Japan who I've used for parts for my Daihatsus, but they're not cheap and shipping is very expensive

Posted

If you want a Sirion repair manual your two options seem to be either Daihatsu themselves (who want well over £100) or alternatively BobF on the Daihatsu Drivers Forum can sort you a CD copy for about a tenner.

As for part numbers, Daihatsu use a parts system called Microcat which you can download from the internet, but again it's expensive and may take a bit of searching for.

Daihatsu dealers should be able to find the part you need though, as pretty much anything for the Sirion is still available (if expensive).

Hi I'm looking for a replacement sunroof for my 1998 fiat Punto 60 team. My first car even though I'm 46, lifelong biker. It's served me well getting me through my test and even though it seems to provoke hatred amongst the neighborhood (all leasing brand new SUV [email protected]#t boxes) I've become very attached to the blue poo. It hasn't leaked yet but the frame is rotting and it's only a matter of time. Please help anyone out there with a replacement let me know. Thank you.

Hi I assume yours is the manual, tilt / slide sunroof? I think I still have an electric sunroof from a Punto ELX, the frame may possibly be the same. Think either the motor, or something on the sliding mechanism broke. Can't remember which, but I kept it anyway and far as I know is in my dad's garage. Despite looking on the Fiat eper spares disc, it only gives a breakdown of the manual sunroof. Which as it turns out, you can buy everything except the frame :(

But if you want it I'll dig it out of my dads garage, hopefully it's still all there. An I'll get some pic's if needed, really like the Team by the way. Especially in that metallic blue!!

I dismantled a complete manual sunroof assembly out of an early Punto S a few years ago. I was going to swap it into my dads ELX as the electric roof was playing up, but in the end we disconnected the switch and sold the car. I still have the whole thing including blind, handle and surround with interior lamp, its largely rust free save for one of the drain holes wants tidying slightly. Getting it to you is another matter, but I could look into that?

In good condition, but being a BL product it suffers from a manufacturing fault, namely that the pages aren't cut straight and narrow down towards the top:

If he lives near Luton he won’t need a sunroof, or is it for use as an escape hatch?

Old torque wrench, Torcometro, probably ideal for tightening up the giggling pin on a 1937 Singer Bantam van. It works and seems to click at about the same time as my other wrench- that might be wrong as well but I've assembled lots of engines with it and not one head gasket failure so must be better than the ones Rover used.
