I think a set of these:

Would look perfect on a CX, especially if the single bar was colour coded to the car.

I can sort of see the connection, but good luck finding those with 5x98 PCD - if I have to ask the price, I can't afford them

I like the steel jobs Vauxhall do, which, with appropriate trims pass as alloys. I'd leave the trims off, obviously.Ford do something similar:I've always fancied a set of these on an XM.

Which gives me an excuse to post this, 18" C6 wheels.

"Princess Anne" alloys are a fine alternative to the Wolfie Superslot. On a Scimitar.

 

 

They're subtly different to the normal Scimitar wheels I think. They're Mag Industries, I had a set on a Beetle. The tyres were heavier than the wheels, they were proper lightweight.

I previously mentioned the Vauxhall 'star' steelies on this thread. I also would like to suggest the boxy 1980s Carlton 14" alloys too:

Very easy to clean - unlike the slatted 1980s MG alloys that Al posted or my Nissan wheels that have to be done with my toothbrush (an old one fortunately).

Also, those spindly alloys that came on Puch Grand Prix S models.   Just googling that took me back to 1976 and my first pay packet.   Unfortunately I spent the lot on rock and roll records and a crap turntable, thus becoming a penniless shiter forever....

Big fancy wheels don’t do it for me and one of my favourite wheels is BMW style 36 which is a 15 inch wheel and is on early basic Z3s and was an option on the E36 (although I’ve never seen them on one).

 

I bought a set for £20 off eBay a few years ago but none of my cars are on bricks so I don’t think they have much chance of any use but i think they would look great on a Compact.

I must be odd.   Nigh on forty years of motoring and not had the urge to buy wheels that were not already attached to a vehicle.   The nearest I have come is putting standard 190E trims back on mine and flinging the C Class ones it came with over a hedge  on Ebay. 

 

If I ever find a set of Cosmics with Minor PCD I might, just might be tempted though....

Lorinser wheels were very close to Mercedes-Benz oem ones by their looks for a reason. Not your typical distributor of pimp-accessories, even more subtle and discrete than Carlsson.

Holy thread resurrection!

Some wheels definitely are look good on one particular car and naff on others.

I know these were fitted to many 70's fords - I think they're either Ghia or Sport alloys - but look best IMO on the Mk 2 Capri. Mk 3 they're ok, but look wrong on other cars. A great period design. (The 4-spoke RS really suited the Mk2 Escort)

Spiderwebs look fantastic on the Mk1 Granada but awful on the Mk2. I think they'd suit a 70's Lambo or maserati as well as the handsome big ford.
Only other vehicle I've seen these on is a bay-window T2, and they looked absolutely shite on that. Again an opinion. One of my favourite wheel designs of the 70's. 
The 4-stud version of these don't look anywhere near as nice.

I've seen a Scimitar fitted with Minilites. No. Just no.

These were based on Opels, but when I was in the Mk1 club in the early '90s,someone had a set on a Coupe & they looked fantastic ?

I appear to be in the minority here....

Superlites or minilites, both looking class on the vehicle chosen. 

They don't suit everything, but loogood at the right dish and diameter. 13" on the Saph and gold Capri, 15" on WAR.

Extremely dependent on the car, but Mini Specials are definitely one that springs to mind immediately.

 

 

Also, surely there's someone else in this world who thinks Primula Yellow is a FANTASTIC colour on the Mini shell??
