grogee Posted August 13, 2024 Posted August 13, 2024 Weirdly, I think both of these came straight outta Whitley (Coventry). The 1307/Alpine looks worse from a slight angle where you can see the slabby offset bit in the centre. Arguably the MkIII steering wheel is even worse than XJ40, but both a massive letdown inside a luxury car. Anyway these are just starters for ten, weigh in with your hated hoops. wesacosa 1

Missy Charm Posted August 13, 2024 Posted August 13, 2024 I don't know what some of you lot have got against eighties steering wheels. They were, at least, round and thin rimmed. One has to look to the present day for a truly ugly steering wheel: A Lamborghini, no less! Here's one from a Ferrari. It's worse. And this monstrosity positions the Dubai desert-smasher. I've watched a few of his vids and they're nicely made. And an interesting insight into a superheated motor industry that was ravenous for 'features' to make products stand out. Soundwave Posted August 13, 2024 Posted August 13, 2024 1970s VW Beetle steering wheel... my own Beetle has one of these, it's just a big ol' slab of creaky plastic, dreary to look at and doesn't feel great in the hands. The 60s wheels were far classier: Sure the 70s wheel is probably "safer", but it's a Beetle. Doesn't matter what steering wheel you've got, your knees are the crumple zone. In a crash situation you'll have bled out from your two severed femoral arteries before you have time to worry about what the steering wheel has done to your chest.
