Luckily mines an auto, so one hand on the wheel and the other holding the door.

Amazingly its not done it to me yet this winter. It will. Just hasn't yet.

Yeah, autos have the winter advantage. Even the Powershift!

Overtime this morning, 6am start. Left house at 05:30. -3.
It only bloody latched! 🤯

Well it got me this morning. Got in it ok. Drove 20 mins to Garage. Can't get out, as door won't open on interior handle.

Its done it before, no problem, just wind window down and open door using exterior handle.

Except its freezing and the windows won't drop, because they are frozen shut.

Joy.

Rear springs today, 2 out of 2 broken.

Stupid bottom arm cup thingy full of mud and rust, surprised there was any metal left after I wire brushed them. Should have painted them but will probably be bean tins soon enough.

Not sure if I got the right springs, sitting a little high now.

I call it the mon-donk-o.

Blasted block to thermostat hose next. Easy ish once you take the battery box, vacuum solenoid valves and bracket and gear selector cables off.

Astonishingly I bought the correct part and even more Astonishing, no leaks yet.

Sure I'm teaching egg sucking, but with a long torx Allen key in an access hole covered by a bung you can undo the retaining screw and remove the entire rear section of the handle and lock barrell. Soak in wd40 and grease and it'll never play up again.

I never had to replace the rear springs on any of mine despite taxi use with plenty of weight on the back seat.

Wife informed me one of the cornering lights was no longer working. I had to consult tinterweb  as the front is festooned with lights like something out of close encounters of the third kind.

After identifying the culprit the headlight was removed. Two screws and much easier than my e60.

The multiplug was, to be frank, a mare to remove - it needed penetrating oil. From research it is an issue on the mk 4.20230209_152659.thumb.jpg.eb6622b10d9d27f8e42a26c1d4720f1e.jpg

access is gained not from the back - but the side.

A clip, held in by a screw, has to be removed first - access is shit - you will need a torx bit - a short one - and a 1/4 ring spanner to turn it. Then the bulb slides out. The bulb is a H1.

New bulb back in. I put some red rubber grease around the plug and put the light back on the car. I noticed the coolant needed topping up - I came across another annoyance -

You cannot get the cap off and keep the skin on your knuckles. Whoever thought this was acceptable needs putting in a hessian bag and twatting.

I have not tried the lights yet to see if they work.

Fucksticks!!

Sticking nearside front caliper!!!

Shit, was going out to an autojumble tomorrow, will take the 205 instead, and sort this on Monday.

Went at this today.

Couldn't push the piston back easily, but managed just enough to get the caliper off.

Pulled back the undamaged dust cover to reveal this.

Rusted piston.

After a bit of persuasion I managed to get the piston out,but it's too pitted for my liking.

20230213_141959.thumb.jpg.0fe0d692e0f596680a0f307561cb8636.jpg

A quick phone call and an hour later I got a used caliper from my mates scrap yard for €20.00!

Bargain.

No rust on the piston and it pushed back smoothly.
