A colleague asked a fella at work what his favourite cheese was and he replied ‘grated’.

Years ago when organising a charity event which was staffed by volunteers, a very nice man asked to participate. We had put out a list of jobs at the event.

I asked, "What role would you like?"

He replied, "Bacon, please."

To be fair to him, we had promised that all volunteers would get a hot sandwich for breakfast!

I really miss Terry and my Dad loved him on the radio too in the 80s on his travels.

He was back on r2 in 1993 when i started work and commuting 100 miles and 2hours a day in the 2cv. I am now listening to Charles nove on magic classical who is a decent copy.

Yes, I listened from ‘93 but thanks for the tip, I’ll give Charles a listen now in the morning and see how I like him. So far, no breakfast show comes close to the entertainment Terry and his crew gave us.

Fortunately many Janet & John recordings are now on YouTube. Just listened to, “John goes to a party”, or similar title and still made me laugh.
Nothing now can compete, unfortunately.

100% agree with this, the drivel from Evans, Ball et al, is nauseating.

Several times I have had to pull off in the van, in a lay-by, when Janet & John were on.

I couldn’t agree more. Dad used to have colleagues pass him on the M4 to Heathrow and ask him later, what were you laughing about? Terry is and was a legend that no one can get close to now.

Yes I had to genuinely pull over when Janet and John was on, also Steve Wright with his 'Ask Elvis' in the early 00's, both had me in stitches.

Nothing comes close now, get the odd giggle from Simon Mayo on Greatest Hits radio, Ken Bruce ain't as good as he used to be, but I still listen to Popmaster and that's about it for me. Just tend to have Gold Radio, Radio 4, if its a topic that interests me, or podcasts on nowadays, unless the crickets on or Derby's playing.

Ask Elvis, I’d forgotten that! You are so right! Sad times we’re in indeed. I do listen to Ken when I can but I’ve always been shit at popmaster.

New neighbour has moved in down the road.

2 very shitty looking vans. One sounds like it runs on 2 cyclinders. And a ropey merc A2 circa 2002.

AnOther neighbour was trying to get me involved in discussing another neighbours visit to tell the said new neighbour that it's just an eyesore.  Where surprisingly an ear full was given.  Yes. I'd tell you to fuck off too. None of your fucking business.

I must go around and tell them I salute them.

Why can't people just be nice. There is nothing stopping them having two rusty vans.

I now have a problem with new neighbours.

Another fucker that thinks parking on the pavement is a great idea. Wanker.

But they did say that he got nervous at an all you can eat salad buffet.

I used to get that on the M5 outside Exeter most mornings as I was on the commute - no chance to pull over - but I'll swear blind that lanes 1 & 2 all slowed down and the drivers would all be sitting with their heads slightly cocked towards their speakers. Then they'd all laugh at the same moments I did.
OK, so in the rose tinted eyeware world that was Old Fartdom, things were not always as good as remembered but - Terry and his TOGs did strike a chord, there's nothing similar on the Beeb Radio these days - I find a lot of the chatter boring or infantile (see BBC Radio 1 for more of that).
It's Radio 4 I'm afraid (or if I have the fantastical Child Bride on board with her whizzo mp3 and Bluetooth technology then toons from her collection*).

*unfortunately that includes a fair portion of Radiohead :-(

Had breakfast with him every morning for god knows how many years, my sister had a couple of letters read out by him

Absolutely brilliant DJ & presenter, many of today's 'celebrities' could do with following his example

Fings ain't wot dey useter be!

Sir Terry was just a joy to listen to.  I would often try to time my deliveries to catch Janet And John, or Ask Elvis.  Golden days, never to be replicated.  (Sigh)

And then of course Popmaster, which Ken took with him when he was thrown away.  Older readers will remember I finally made it on air, on my birthday 11 years ago, when Michael Ball was covering.  I won the T-shirt.

And the genuine banter with the traffic department, and the newsreaders.  I miss Sally and Lynn...

Ever since I moved here six years ago I've been meaning to get a lawnmower, because the landlord uses a comically large tractor mower and doesn't do a hugely neat job of it. I have a corded flymo, but it's not really suitable for the size and unevenness of my lawn. Every time I have gone to buy one from SGS their own brand ones have been out of stock, and I'm not made of money so Mountfield has never seemed like an option.

Checked yesterday afternoon and their cheap as chips self propelled one was in stock, so I bought one.

Naively I assumed I'd be able to just chuck petrol in it and go, but no I need to put oil in it too, so I've ordered oil from amazon Prime to be delivered tomorrow, along with a new plastic jerry can because the one sat by the house has 3 year old E5 in it and I don't trust either the fuel or the can.

It’s not quite as full on smutty. But he is building up a regular emailer list ( Tom and Peggy the topless motorists for example ), there’s a couple of brain teasers ( to keep you tuned in for the answers) . What Terry was rather good at was bringing the news and weather people into the show. These days  it’s subbed out so there’s no communication. From 9am he does a film music hour which is often tailored for the famous actors birthdays.
