Fed up of feeling I’m not doing enough for the local community

I posted this in a local page last night

IMG_7154.thumb.png.e143041b6c12f7fc2eb21c78ed371687.png

ended up taking to an absolutely lovely couple who only live down the road and have rescued over 400 cats in the last 5 years

IMG_7129.thumb.jpeg.c29635acb290e4cdd9d4f6f2d2007203.jpeg

I wish I’d given more but that’s all I could carry as I didn’t have a pound for the trolley

its nice to be appreciated it really is

IMG_7152.thumb.png.abe136aa87f333922430784bb799ef18.png

I’ll do the same next month I reckon

I’d rather do it for people like that, so it stays local than donate money to a charity, doesn’t stay local and I question at times where the money goes

Hope you consider taking an adult one from a rescue because there are thousands of those who need a home. It is also an advantage as you can then see the cat's personality so you know what you are getting.

I have had 2 like this and both have been/are fantastic.

Problem I found locally is that the cat rescue centres are so picky they won't let me re-home them.

Apparently because I live near a main road, and have dogs, I'm not suitable?

Only had cats with dogs for the last 25 years, and never had an issue. Yes we've lost cats to the road, but that could happen on a village back way where they're not expecting traffic.

Ended up buying kittens, which have since cost me a fortune 🤦

Since she I have now cannot be let loose outside, I had to build a fenced enclosure for her, so I have from this come to the conclusion that cats should not wander loose outside.

This is much safer and gives my cat a good quality of life, mine she loves it. And she understands that she is inside the fence so feels very safe there which is good as she is a very scared cat. Believe it or not but this happened, she came in and was scared and meowed a lot I then realized something was wrong so went out and she followed in the channel that leads from the house to the fenced in area and suddenly stuck her paw out of a hole in the mesh and meowed , I fixed the hole and everything was fine again and she calmed down and was happy.

She has clearly learned that there is alot of danger outside the fence. Have had several feral cats try to attack her and a fox try to take her but they have been unsuccessful thanks to her being fenced in.

In my experience if you are thinking about getting a cat one will appear. Ours turned up on our doorstep and never left.

When we had our last one put down in 2020 we came to the conclusion that without someone prepared* to look after it if we go away on holiday, there was no way we would trust a cattery again. So we don't have one. But a bloke at work fosters cats from the rescue. Never had them more than 3 months and then they go back.

If he goes away for the weekend he takes them back and the following week he will have a different cat.

Seems like a great compromise.

I got my budgies from a charity and a blokes flat like that 😂 He had 3 massive cages and a few smaller ones and took in the rescue birds until they found a home.

I got given his address and met the charity lady there, they d been with him about a month apparently (which is why they were bloody timid when I got them)

Rent a cat, sounds a decent compromise. What happens if it gets damaged whilst with you though?

I have considered doing that

however I’ll get attached to the cat and be really upset when I have to give them back

so I’ll end up adopting 10 cats

as reported last night in the grump thread, the lolvo failed to proceed

IMG_9718.thumb.jpeg.cdb8afe949613321c8780e9e01fd629a.jpeg

fortunately, @DVee8 was just round the corner and came to my rescue

IMG_9719.thumb.jpeg.be05fd337513cc8b13a2f90f2fc236f8.jpeg

we towed the stricken Volvo home and discovered it was pissing diesel out from the back end

Screenshot2025-01-09at14_46_23.thumb.png.43649633c6647299cb253146102a484e.png

as it was -4oC, it was abandoned on the naughty step and left for further investigation today

a leak was found

the inlet to the fuel filter had come undone

IMG_9723.thumb.jpeg.87c2806306d21def1abd0a54310f905d.jpeg

an easy fix - the filter is one off an xc90 so doesn't fit the bracket very well. cable ties to the rescue :)

Our local rescue centre wanted a £200 “donation”. I know they have costs but I thought they actually wanted to rehome them. (Assuming we were deemed suitable)

Ended up getting one off gum tree for £30 including at least £20 worth of food. Didn’t get on with new dog apparently. Dog obviously costs too much, so the cat had to go.

Still have him 6 years on, best described as a loveable rogue.

ah well, that will teach me to be smug !

I was out in the lolvo this evening and was literally telling myself how pleased I was not to be scrapping it and the bloody thing broke down again !

I bumped it up onto the kerb, wriggled underneath and with a lot of fuss, managed to reconnect the errant fuel pipe. I had a cable tie in the boot so stuck that on to hopefully hold it in place. made for a very nervous journey home which included the tyne tunnel and a section of motorway :(

home safe, I think I'll be using the mazda for work tomorrow

on the bright side, it was only -1oC tonight !

I loves me a bit of growth and positivity - but this is VILE.

Imagine feeling that there was something to be gained, to be won, by sharing this so widely.

What a stroker.

Man invents talking to partner about their relationship.

Although from the questions it sounds more like a workplace probation review 🤣

Did you see the one where a couple were bragging about inventing ‘bottle night’, which involved getting a bottle or two of wine in and staying home chatting for the evening? Couldn’t tell if it was a wind up or not, but struck me as the kind of self promoting shite that people feel the need to publish.

found a nice ice covered back road today and gave the C1s ABS some exercise ... as well as spinning the wheels ...  a bit of fun  ...

interesting to note the car seemed to stop quicker with genteal braking ...

but slowly  increasing pressure on the brakes with the resultant hammering kicking in and the car appearing to quicken up the pace once the ABS started up.

stamping on the brakes seemed to do  just the same ..  lots of ABS noise and continuing forward progress ...

no off switch for the ABS ..... ??

Not a chance of an off switch these days, pulling the fuse is the only way.

Is it not a thing that in snow and ice ABS doesn’t actually work/can’t react quick enough, so you slide more ?
and yes, gentle braking is better.

I have a recent set of tyres on the car , all under 2 years old , so the rubber is still decent , it does tell , it was interesting to watch the face on the driver of a tow truck and trailer who had to climb the slope over the bridge , that the ice caused some concern and all the tow shackle and trailer wheels started banging and sliding around !!!
