In a follow-up to the Duster implosion post on the 'grumpy thread', I can report back that the cause of the catastrophic FTP was the oil filter and housing ejecting itself from the motorcar at speed.

It has since been repaired and there seems to be no serious engine damage.

Bonus is that it's been undersealed too.

Happened to a mates son, on a fiesta diesel.

Mind you, he was drag racing it at the 'Pod at the time....😁

Thats nuts

The filter maybe if its not tightened but the housing too

Who 'serviced' it (isnt it a new ish one)

My Granda has been rather vocal on getting it done at a garage...

I seemingly recall he was the last one to service it. :D

At a garden centre this afternoon (at that age), and a guy in a powered wheel chair comes flying into the car park virtually one one wheel.
Never seen one of them move as fast. A real WTF? moment.

Almost all the bus stops local to me have this advert

IMG_7468.thumb.jpeg.2ed7f9ef71a761ad49757a985fce4f4f.jpeg

from a graphic design and artistic point of view

it makes zero sense

bagpuss on LSD?

not sure what the moggy has to do with it

but I love it

something about it just makes me smile, it doesn’t make sense but it’s memorable and therefore it’s worked perfectly

purple cat with swirly eyes is cool though

If you were a surgeon you'd develop an idea that everyone has dicky organs. Mechanics don't exactly see the cars that are just fine, do they?

Right. Nobody services a car? Cool.

Well yes, but the bulk of servicing work will be moderns and other things which are a bastard to service. And as we know, all moderns are shit.

There was a photo in the local rag showing a street scene from 1962. Despite 63 years of progress, the fucking scaffolding is still there. :D

My Dad worked in building insurance and reckoned scaffolding hire costs could double the cost of a repair.

I'm with my dad and on TV is one of his favorite TV programs but this week they mixed up the TV subtitles so this one is subtitled in Finnish and he doesn't know English. So I imagine in Finland now there is an equally pissed off Finn ho as gotten Norwegian text cursing at the tv.

And I love pissed off/angry Finns and Finnish swearing.

I was working in Helsinki just over a year ago. My Finnish colleague would remark "fuck this shit!" every half hour or so. :D

today I did my first RJ45 plug rewire ,

I had the choice of drilling another hole in the wall that would take the plug  , after moving all the furniture etc

or

buying a RJ45 crimper and some plugs

and as luck would have it , I also had a cat5 lead with a missing fishing hook ( that little bastard catch that catches everything and then breaks off trapping the plug in the router socket ) , so I cut off the damaged plug , put the wire through the existing hole with all the other wires , and wired a new plug on the end ...

and it worked !

next time I will buy some feed thru plugs ....

Here's one for @Angrydicky and any other Princess owners on here.

That there is hook end wiper arms.  As standard, the Princess uses this stupid side-peg arrangement and they're a nightmare to get wipers for and have been the whole time I've owned this car.  I saw a pair of wiper arms on eBay listed as 18" Trico arms, no idea what they were originally off, and took a chance on them.  They're the same length as the original Princess ones with the main difference being the crank of the arm sets them a bit higher up the screen.  Shockingly they're exactly the same tapered spline fitting and while they are a little bit fiddly to get a wiper blade fitted to since the bonnet prevents you from lifting the arms very far off the screen, they do accept standard hook type wiper blades.  They also take the same 20" blades as the Princess has as standard, wiping area is almost exactly the same.

13 years I've been struggling to source and keep fitted those awful wobbly side-peg wipers and now the struggle has ended.  I don't care that you can see the wipers either, they never truly hid under the bonnet anyway

I had an hour to waste in Ormskirk which I know like the back of my hand ..

after the Firefox  issue with the Linux mint lappy yesterday I decided to detour into CEX for some ram sticks ...

I got relieved of 3 notes for two  4GB DDR3 sticks by the helpful assistant ,    which should take my lappy up to its max of 8GB .

got home and fitted them and one did not work ???   it was a low voltage stick ( wait for it ) , so I ended up with 6GB in that lappy ..from 3GB

I pulled out my second lappy ... that uses low voltage sticks !!  , and that now has 8GB of ram ..  from 4GB

it was noted Linux mint is very quick with lots of ram !!!

Mine both have 8GB, I think the slower one is due to the processor.  This is the newer one of the two, about six years old (Zoostorm).

The other is an ancient Dell pro machine, about 16 years old.  Bought second hand ten years ago for £180.
