dozeydustman Posted August 10, 2024 Posted August 10, 2024 205 has been my daily this week for my work commute and has been absolutely bob-on every day. On way home between Chichester and Bognor I got a wave from 3 other road users - another 205 (a GT or SR), a 309 and someone on the Bognor Road roundabout in an MX-5 (was this @Crackers?) It does turn heads the little French red rocket, and makes me smile when people wave or turn heads as it makes its jolly noises along the road. Yoss, GrumpiusMaximus, High Jetter and 1 other 4

However I've probably seen you around town without realising!

I’ve not yet thundered around Chi in the 205 much as I have very little reason to go there now aside from work. I’ve normally been thundering around Chi in the works Berlingo or a bin lorry!

Two things: First, there is no such thing as a weed, that is just a term for plants growing unintentionally, thus if you plant it on purpose it is not a weed. Second, sycamore has been growing in the UK for over 500 years, I doubt planting a few extra will cause any issues. Bfg, richardmorris and Asimo 1 2

somewhatfoolish Posted August 12, 2024 Posted August 12, 2024 Meh, not a fan of them as they seed everywhere and grow quickly, smothering nicer trees but a sycamore is better than no tree at all. Getting into the minutiae they aren't native so are much poorer for flora and fauna, especially insects and funghi. Ideally 320 should be planting native species but ideally I'd be dating Scarlett Johansson. GeorgeB 1

There's one 30' from my front door, fills the gutters with leaves and the magpies shit bricks on cars parked under it. A cherry right outside the door that drops cherries on the path that tramp into the house. We have lots and lots of trees here, unfortunately too close to the houses and the roots undermine the foundations and cause havoc. The council are apparently coming to turn them all onto firewood soon. Remspoor 1

Will grow ,in a short time, into a large tree (20m tall). Root spread covers a large area. these trees are very thirsty. the ground around will be very dry and may cause shrinkage. Then there is the issue of aphid shit. This says that the tree being native to the UK is questionable. https://tree2mydoor.com/pages/information-trees-tree-directory-sycamore-trees
320touring Posted August 12, 2024 Posted August 12, 2024 Thanks for the info folks. There are a fair few sycamore round here already (that's where the seeds came from) so I'm not going to be introducing them into a virgin area etc. Likely a couple of years before they'll be ready for anything anyway.. so will research options in the meantime. somewhatfoolish 1
