What makes you grin? Antidote to grumpy thread

The Midlands are what southerners think is the north, hence they are hideously grim to scare southerners back down to their overcrowded & overpriced hell holes before they get to the nice parts of the UK.

To be fair I had purposely not mentioned Donny for fear of destroying my own argument :-)

Grim in the Midlands and the North? Has anyone ever been to Staines or Guildford? Or Portsmouth or Southampton for that matter, or London, Maidenhead, etc etc etc And they look at a speed bump and think, fuck that’s high I need a 4x4. Nah, the world doesn’t start until you hit the Midlands then just gets better.

The North starts in Crewe, and yes once you are North of Crewe it is better.

Ex GF from moons back - decided she'd visit my hometown NE coast. Journey of 270+miles - we'd barely made it to the Watford Gap when she started - how much farther? She had not a fucking clue……….

Last year I visited Doncaster and I think I posted my impressions here, I've since tried to banish the memory, but good news, I've found a competitor for character*

On Friday I went to Port Talbot, WTAF?

On the positive side, I looked in an estate agents window and I could probably have bought a house if I'd maxed my cards and overdraft. And I don't have very high credit limits .

Yesterday, I met two new Shiters; Laseralignmentfoofoo etc and The Doctor. As seems usual whenever I've met a shiter both were sound blokes.

I love this place.

Just been given a card and a box of choccies from one of my customers as a belated Christmas present, she's a lovely lady of 82 yrs old and always makes me smile when she pulls up outside. Why?

How many Octogenarians do you know that drive one of these

And she loves a bit of "spirited driving" as she calls it. Hope we can all be like that one day.

Started as agrump after ebay buyer waiting 2 weeks to tell me his stuff hadnt arrived and thought I would end up refunding him.

Anyway managed to find lost postage reciept and checked tracking number online showing his signatue, he soon shut up when I sent him a copy.

I had one try a credit card chargeback on a sky HD box 4 months after he'd received it , after I've been to the post office I stuff the receipts in the centre console , took a bit of sorting out but I found it and fucked him off , I wonder how many he's tried that on with.

This week a 1880s sewing machine to France , aparrently arrived with the cast base split in half , I packed it very well so it surprised me ,she was very demanding telling me to claim , I asked to see pictures of the box, pictures of the damage and pictures of the damage with the serial number visible in the shot

Heard nothing for a week , did she think I was just going to refund her based on an email in capitals

Mrs fp sent some dresses to a guy in Spain, he seemed a bit dodgy from the get go, he was claiming that he never received them even though the courier tracking said delivered, he kept telling her to claim etc when called out on his bullshit he opened an eBay case , a quick email with a link to the tracking info which showed signature to ebay and never heard from him again for some reason

Just move out to Blacon. I lived there 40 years ago, admittedly right at the far end on the road to Saughall backing onto the railway, you just had to avoid driving through the estate. I don't think even then I ever went to the shops there

Apparently Irish historians have discovered the gravestone of a man who lived to the age 193.

His name was Miles, he was from Dublin.

I've been once.

My dad grew up there in the 40s and has no interest in returning.

Apparently it was a shit hole back then too.

Aye Eddie, as much of a shock as it will be to a Scotch but it is possible to own veg & store it in a fridge alongside the bacon & potato cakes.

We're fine with the owning it and storing it bit, it's the putting it in your mouth then ingesting it bit we're not fucking sure about!

Or Chester as most call it. Gateway to North Wales and the Wirral.

No, most people wouldn't rather live in a war zone, but less would choose Rhyl.

No. Not really. There are some cheap bits of Chester.

Or was I thinking of Runcorn and Ellesmere Port??

I purchased my 2nd fine steed from Chrisjvm of this parish a couple of weeks ago

Weekend tinkering new discs and pads all round. Mot passed with flying colours, boat pushed out and a couple of replacement tyres on the front.

A well sorted Saab 9-3 floppy top 1.8t. 150bhp

However 30min trip to Long Eaton and 20min tinker in a garage now 225bhp IMG_20190125_0930537.jpg

I regret never getting any of my SAAB’s noobed.

It used to be very genteel. My mum has a photo from the 1950s with my gran, and grandad, newborn uncle and mum all sitting on the beach. My grandad is wearing a suit and tie, but had rolled his trousers up!

Harry’s garage in youtube has a good Miura video. Lovely sounds, but at 1.3£ million out of my league. But at least I own a car designed by the same artist.

I loved it as a kid in the 70s, so imagine my horror when we took our daughter a few years ago to find discarded needles less than 50 yds from the main beach front, the impossibility of getting anything other than the shitest greasy spoon food (not even fish and chips!), the used nappies barely covered in sand. Such a shame as I loved it so much as a kid.

We went quite a lot as children in the 1970s like you. Often the tide was miles out with green slime covering a lot of the sand. I think the last time we went there was a plague of ladybirds. Hundreds of millions of them. Sadly the drugs problem is spreading across from Prestatyn to flint.

When we went I was picking up an exhaust for the Capri from a nearby village. The guy warned us off but I thought how bad can it be? We carried on to Llandudno which doesn’t seem to have changed at all in thirty years.

Not necessarily true

Blacon is ace, I used to live right behind the (old) Camp shops. The people round there generally seem to be 857 times nicer than some of the snobs in other parts of town.
