What makes you grin? Antidote to grumpy thread

Depends, if its had a new gearbox fitted of late could be OK. That's the decider with those, 2nd and 6th bearings failing. Needless to say replacement boxes are at a premium. I don't think the engine itself is any worse than anything else AFAIK. Turbo solenoids go with regularity as does the EGR cooler.

I's not the box that you need to worry about, it's the OIL PUMP OF DOOM. Late 2013 on ones are supposedly ok, earlier ones a lottery. Suggestions are if the engine is turned off the moment the low oil pressure warning flashes off, they can be saved. Something to do with a seal that fails, I think.

Anyhow, that was the reason my son went for a petrol Insignia in the end, not a dizzler.

The 6 speed is a dreadful bit of kit durability wise though. I completely agree though I'd go for the petrol 1.8. Few less mpg and less torque but reliability slightly better.

The oil pump situation is annoying, seems to be another weakness that Vauxhall seem to ignore or do nothing about, sacked a 1.7 DTI recently off for same reason. They just seem unable to make oil pumps properly.

The Laguna has excelled itself this weekend! 330 miles to Port talbot and back, some fucking awful rain on the m4 by Cardiff and 70/80 most of the rest of the time! 56.5mpg across the trip, which is nice to see as it means the car can't be too broken! Brakes were a bit squiffy during the really bad rain, but I'm putting that down to being waterlogged. The Forte stuff must be doing something as I went up the Rev range a bit when I got close to home and it was blowing lots of clag out, which it never normally does

Dream house! I've seen and played with vacuums I didn't even know existed! He has a good 400 of them dotted around

Trip back down the M1 and round the 25 last night had a clear run with no hold ups and finally got the lpg system set so it's showing stoiciometric on the air fuel gauge at cruise rather than stupidly weak or lean, it's now rich at low revs but at least I won't be burning valves.

How many Mac Classics? I did my first proper programming on them (TurboPascal).

That's all of them I think. He had a BBC in his office, and a fuck load of games consoles dotted around!

I learned some great news today.

My boss at work (who was a right little bitch!) took a career break back in May last year. Basically our place let you do it if you want to so you go travelling and all that sort of shit but will guarantee you your job back after you return. I think you can only do it once on special agreement though.

Anyway, she was due to come back at the end of December but extended her break by another 3 months instead.

Well, today she rang in and said she's not coming back at all. Ever!

Great news for me as she was absolutely useless and shit on me at my last pay rise/progress review. She was also very easily influenced by other colleagues shall we say! Ok if your face fitted but not good at all if it didn't. Also good is that I get on well with my new temporary boss who's looking like he's staying in the job instead of her.

A good day for me!

Got the RS Saturday - sadly it had been dropped when they were moving the garage around for me to pick it up, but the guy was completely honest and showed me everything. it still went OK and all good......  I can live with a few scratches if I'm honest as they wont be the last in my hands I fear.

Had a bit of a chat, he works for a DS specialist, things escalated a bit and now he's keeping an eye out for a late model project for me........ uh-oh

I emailed a minor TV personality (who actually works for a living) that his website was acting up, got a reply back saying thanks and he's fixed it now.

That is a remarkable piece of cut-and-shut!

No-one mention the words Citroen DS please, I love them. If I was more mental than I already am there'd be one on my drive.

And I'd be single....and arguably happier ahem.

Andrew Eldritch of The Sisters of Mercy runs the band's website, that he made himself:

http://www.the-sisters-of-mercy.com/

It's very dry and irreverent, and appears to have had very little updating in the 18ish years it seems to have been there - there's a reference to the AOL browser at the bottom of the homepage!

If it's any consolation, the horse and the car are why I felt it safer to stay single.

Oh boy, that is quite a history lesson. And it’s not that long since every webpage was like that and would take a minute to load each page.

Remember those models I accidentally sent to The Gulf last week, well they've come back in stereotype Kuwati packaging!

Lovely condition and the V70 makes sense as an XC70. Thanks Split-Pin.

Blimey nope not Andrew Eldrich, haven't seen him since they played in Manchester with a hardcore techno band as support and I'm possibly a little too large to fit into my t shirt now. Several of my mates saw him play unannounced in Jacobs Well? In Leeds but didn't think fit to ring me and tell me to get myself there....

Almost asked you what "teatable components" are supposed to be.   I need to get my eyes tested or something.

Tea table components:

Walnut veneer board

Brass trimmed cup holder

Hinges

Clasp

for extra smelly-ness, i dropped a lush bathbomb in. a big yellow folower shaped thing.

for those members with teenage daughters, or who are married will know what one of these things are.

it turned the water yellow! so its been like in a bath of wee, only much nicer smelling! makes your skin feel nice and moisturised too......

I have flu. Never had it before now I know what people mean about the flu!

It took over 2hrs to get out of bed, I couldn't stay there cos I have the kids.

Anyway why would this be in the grin thread?

The postman knocked on the door. About 5mins later I finally shuffled to the door doubled over and opened it a crack. "Don't come near I have flu!"

"Will you take a parcel for nextdoor?"

"Sure but you are going to have to just leave it there for now because I can't manage the dog"

"Great thanks, I'll just put a card through nextdoor"

Couple of minutes later the door goes again.

Postie: "Listen, are you really ok, can I do anything? Do you need some help with anything?"

Reader, I could have cried.

Got a bit of a crush now actually.

I used to have one of those apples. ( a classic II?). Are they worth anything. Please say no-it went in the skip.

Must have been 1991 as I was back from uni and my sister was trying to use it to write up her sixth form project. My dad had got it from school when they were replacing them.

Have you driven one? I thought I wanted one until I did, far too floaty- and that’s from a serial CX owner.

I'd imagine they are, but it's not my field of expertise so I won't disappoint you!

I wanted to try a DS, right up to the point that I realised they were unaffordable, and slightly too long to fit onto the front driveway....

No I haven't driven one sadly. To be honest they're on a list along with SM and XM.

In fact... The owner let me play with the up and down lever too. And there was a Venetian blind in the rear window. Can anything get any cooler?
