I felt like I was being followed earlier then I was walking the dog. It was rather unsettling & went on for a while, so I turned around...

And it was just a load of bullocks.

I just watched Goodbye Pork Pie the cult NZ film from 1981 featuring a yellow Mini. I first saw it when it came out at Battersea Arts Centre. It's great!

Now I've been looking on the interweb and discovered a remake, from the trailer, I'm not sure I want to see it.

is am genuinely surprised that one of those chaps didn't "have a fag on" while refuelling.

Also a mahoosive publicity con. anyone knows that it is stop start short journeys that kill engines not long steady speed autobahn jollys'

Wonder if BL did a similar trip in the mid 1970s

To be fair, if you tried treating the original 803cc A-Series engine like that, it would simply fall apart. 948 was quite an overhaul, with proper crankshaft bearings and everything. Oh, and slightly more sensible gearing, so 60mph isn't eleventy thousand rpm.

Morris Engines (Eddie Maher) took the joke 803 unit and made it into a proper engine - full flow lubrication helped as well. 803's were prone to throwing a rod at much over 55-60.

They did some odd things though; the 997 Cooper engine featured a very long stroke but a smaller bore than the 850 - I've never heard a proper explanation of why they did that.

I watched The Living Dead At The Manchester Morgue the other night. It was surprisingly good and contained masses of shite.

The main cop drove a dark blue Volvo, there was a P6 jam sandwich and the main burd had a Mini.

Long stroke = more low end torque.

Seems odd to me in a race engine too.

Indeed. To have 970, 997 and 998cc versions of the same engine, but with surprising differences, really does sum up what a shower of shite BMC was becoming. Not to mention that these engines were entirely incompatible with any RWD cars BMC still offered.

Staggering degrees of competence from my credit card company when they agreed the two transactions of £90 charged to my account in April were clearly fraudulent without me having to jump through any hoops to prove my innocence. Mind you, the two transactions were in Hong Kong...., nonetheless, refreshingly good customer service for a change.

You'll soon know if that dog is called Rooney if it gets a wig and starts trying to shag your nan's leg.

405 V5 came through today (that was quick?!) and it said former keeper acquired it 01/09/1995. First time I've had a V5 have a previous ownership that long....

Given all the notes I've left on various BX in the past month or so, lets hope that I beat that soon enough.

Within the space of six minutes, the person who wanted to come and view my bike tonight couldn't wait any longer and went out and bought one off someone else instead. I couldn't help but laugh when they said that, now I've got more time to take the speedo and lights etc off it first.

I'm sat here reading Autoshite with a beer to hand & getting paid time n half for it :D

Gotta migrate & reseed replica Exchange mailstores so it has to be done out of hours. Hence me doing it from home & relaxing while I wait for things to complete.

Tonight's East Anglian Retros meet at Shotley. Awful weather, it rained all night but there was still a decent turnout including T-reg DAF 66 Estate and R-reg Spanish import Renault 5.

I took the little 1200 as I want to build up my confidence in it. Certainly did that, getting me home in crappy conditions and following an L-reg Marina for some of the way.

Thanks for braving the rain and coming down SL, I'm pleased to read that you made it back ok, the back roads were very wet though the villages.

I only took a few photos of the more interesting stuff but we still surprisingly had over 60 cars turn up even in monsoon weather.

SL's bonny little Datty

I loved this Spanish imported R5, the owner bought it from the original owner and drove it back from Bernidom last year.

And lastly i had a little drive of this 3.8 V6 Pontiac, it was the first time I've driven a LHD for a long time so i was hugging the cats eyes a bit but it drove great for a 200k car and sounds nice too.

The parking sensors packed up on the Galaxy a few weeks ago, I was only using it for a tip run for the first time in ages so ignored it at the time.

15 years ago I had a Nissan navara , I just came home with it , It didn't go down well , where's the car , er

I can't drive that it's fucking huge

You'll be fine , she was ok sort of but had to be everywhere before anybody else so she could park it

I gave in and bought a set of £29.99 reversing sensors then one day we went to a safari park , I was reversing into a space using the sensors when she shouts STOP

What's up the sensors are still green so I must be miles off, gotout and was about 3" from the car behind

Checked the sensors and it was just wires, fucking bastard monkeys had ripped them off

Reminded me of a family trip to Woburn around 1972, my uncle was in the car in front , the little fuckers pulled the rubber seal out of the rear window , they got 1/2 of it out before the keepers stopped them , my uncle went nuts

I has job now.

Currently working at John Dewar & Sons doing whisky type stuff, now just have to hope they give me some shifts on the regular... Working at the "whisky bottling plant" sounds so much better than working at the "egg packing factory" too. Going to be scraping the lasses off me now I smell like an alcoholic rather than somebody who rolls around in chicken shit.

Nice one, Captain, hope it goes well for you.

Umbrellas a popular fashion accessory. Unfortunately I didn't have one, or a particularly rainproof coat. Doubt I'd have got much wetter if I'd have just jumped over the wall into the river.

I always knew fins must have a practical use, try that with an Arrow body and it ( whatever it is) would slide off.

Last year was really busy at work so I didn't take all my holidays so I have days to carry over. I'm in a calm before the storm so have taken this friday and next friday of last minute. 4 day weeks are good.

I might even get a couple of hours on the Cortina.

I used to love those gas lights - when I were just a young student, there was a pub in Beverley East Yorks that still had gaslights.

My "grin" is the best birthday pressie for ages off my sister - half an hour in a 737 simulator. I am going to see if I can buy another half hour and then "fly" my regular route from EMA to DUB - as it's a 737-800 sim I can get an idea of what the folk upfront are seeing.

Is that at flight deck reality in Boston? It's effin' brilliant there and Ian(iirc) who owns it is a top bloke.

God it was a Olds as well! I kept calling it a Pontiac. I suck at American cars!

Today's grin is I have apparently ressurected a 12v Panasonic battery from the dead, it's always had 12v but never had enough power to spin a starter motor but was good enough to run the lights in the shed. Put some EDTA in it (that I bought to try and bring back a new Halfords one that is unfortunately sealed for life) a days slow charge later and it's just spun the van over and started it so I've put it on as the second battery, will see what it's like on it's own periodically.

Anybody know how to unseal a Halfords battery?
