What makes you grin? Antidote to grumpy thread

Standing in superdrug earlier waiting to purchase a few toiletries and the bird in front was being served but kept adding to her basket load with all the bargain stuff they stack up around the till, fair enough.  She then starts trying on perfume for sale at the counter, FFS come on! She then points to the £22 sale tag and asks the check out person 'How much is this Beyonce spray'?  He says £36?  She says but hang on 'Its on sale for £22'    Which begs me to ask myself - Why the fuck are you asking him if you can see the price??

Basically he was looking at the 100ml from off the shelf and she was looking at the smaller bottle, the pair of them couldn't work this out.  Sometimes you just need to stand back and grin at these people.  And eventually I was served. She didn't buy the perfume LOL!

ALL MODERNZ R SHIT

I got a lift with my boss today, to a site a small distance across town. He has a white, automatic 16 reg BMW 330d touring Xdrive he bought in November, pre-reg.

He said it's a replacement for the 3 year old white, manual BMW 320d touring Xdrive he had before. He also casually mentioned that in the 3 years he had it, the 320d went through a starter motor and TWO transfer boxes. The transfer boxes were replaced at over £4k each under warranty.

My reaction:

^^ What the blip does Xdrive mean?

When his missus divorces him for constantly driving boring cars she gets to keep it? Hence Xdrive?

It's the AWD version rather than RWD.

Going on a work jolly to Barnsley on Thursday for a 3 hour meeting then back again. We get a pool car for this, boss had the email to confirm it today.

Why the grin? It doesn't have to be back until Friday, but he is off on Friday, so said fuck it, we come back to the office and I can take it home for the night!

Slight grump I suppose as I can't really drive it around when I get home because children (i had a pool car years ago when the rules were more lax and they lobbed you the keys unbooked, did 800 miles one weekend in a Honda accord just messing about with mates), but I'm not going to pass the chance for a spank about in either a passat cc or some golf that isn't mine on fuel I haven't got to pay for.

Even if it's not autoshite material, I'll see how nicer the xantia is to sink back into Friday night! I'll drive eva to school in it on Friday morning, she will like that

Upon further investigation, it turns out the last stamp in the Civic's service book was done 3,000 miles ago. I have never, ever had a car with actual, proper 'Service History'. The downside is, I have* to fork out for a proper garage service at the next interval just for continuity's sake, but it's kinda worth it in a way that probably only makes sense to me.

Proper giffermobile though - first owner was a retired gent, and it looks like he got dealer-fitted reversing sensors (were they even around in '99? must've been £££ if so) as the display is perfectly blended into the interior, despite there being no mention of it in the Honda blurb. The actual sensors are borked, but I've got new ones on order that I shall attempt to wire in. I also have a suspicion that he chose the Pioneer head unit solely because the display colour matched the dash lights.

Mrs_Duke has fallen madly in love with it too, which is a bonus. Even if she did put a dint in the rear bumper literally within seconds. I've got a real soft spot for it myself - if it wasn't so OMGMODERN I'd make a whole thread for it...

Just order a fake stamp with an imaginary garage on it & keep the book up to date when you service yourself.

I had a '98 Civic and '99 Accord and Pioneer radios were standard fit. Nice cars.

Could be OEM then. It's annoying as the HU has a CD multi-changer control on it too - if it weren't for the facts that it's hopeless at picking up actual radio, and that it seems to be stuck on SuperMassiveBASSBOOST mode, I'd happily keep it.

Damned telegraph paywall won't let me post, but the new MATT made me laugh. With sadness and bloody fury.

Don't ever remember Honda parking sensors having a display - sounds like a generic Valeo kit

Posted

No, it's deffo not a Honda thing - it looks like a dealer install though, as it's kind of 'seamless'.

I was getting a blowjob on the sofa whilst watching 8 out of 10 cats does countdown yesterday evening.

Not one to miss an opportunity I said to my wife, 'you don't mind if I look at Rachel Riley while you do that' :)

Standard fit is a Honda-branded tape player.

A car in the Philippines makes it onto a West Yorkshire FB selling site:

Idiots offer £100 for it, presumably without looking at the words, pictures, or location.

STANDARD.

On my last visit to the doctors I came out of the clinic to find an MG3 parked next to my Civic. The first one I've EVER seen, it's fucking ugly

Aside from that it just looks like a generic, cheap smol car. It's alright for the price I guess.

I also saw a daily driver Mini and a tatty RELIANT REBEL but failed to get pictures. :(

I picked up a nice plain un-trendy cable-knit jumper from the charity shop yesterday for a fiver - 100% new wool, water-resistant, looks new, no dodgy smells or owt. Really comfy, so I've been wearing it all day (cleaning the shower and toilet, tinkering with bikes, was going to mess about on the car but couldn't be bothered in the end). I'd never heard of the label, so I've just googled it to see if they're any good. This particular garment appears to be from a previous 'season', but the closest thing I could find to it is slightly north of £250. That's a result then.

And no, it's not a fake.

So you're wearing a jumper worth more than some of our cars on here Mr Duke.

Found some Vic and Bob dvds in my rented storage container yesterday I'd forgotten all about years ago. All 12 episodes of The Young Ones too.

You might have seen in the "joggers bottom" thread that I got a ballot place for the London marathon and decided to raise money for the charity Dogs for Good (formerly Dogs for the disabled).

I wasn't expecting it, but they invited this year's runners to their HQ in Banbury. It was quite a drive but I am so glad I went.

In the end only 2 of the 7 runners could make it so it was a very intimate meeting of trainers and clients and of course some doggies <3

We spent a long time talking to a trainer who gave a fascinating insight into how each dog is taught and selected for partnership and we spent a very long time talking to a lady and her mother about the positive effect on her life that her assistance dog had bought.

The stuff that the charity does is fascinating and not just about assisting those with physical disability; there are autism support dogs, community dogs and a service that helps families explore how a pet dog can help with autistic children. A project they are developing at the moment is Dementia dogs, which aims to preserve the independence of people in the early stages of dementia and provide therapy.

I'm a fan of dogs anyway, but hearing about what these dogs do was just mind blowing and I feel so lucky to have been invited to see how the charity works.

I hope I can do them proud.
