What makes you grin? Antidote to grumpy thread

Was driving along a winding country road bordered by hedge less fields this morning with fdb sprog no.2 instructing me to go faster (she's just three) when half a mile away we saw a Moggie Minor approaching fast. It was standard with faded paint, regular thin tyres and the wonderful buzzy tailpipe of an A-series pulling hard at medium revs.

It was being driven well and looked bloody fantastic as it rounded the nearest corner very neatly on a slimy wet surface - complete with a thinnish old bloke at the wheel.

'Wow!' was the comment from my passenger, nothing needed adding.

Scouts thing this weekend, gravity racing a little wooden car of your own manufacture (minus the wheels, which have to be used). Not too bad for about 3 hours with a block of pine, hacksaw, knife and some spray paint.

Think this one turned out ok. Isn't going to win but it should look good trying :)

Phil

We have that next week as well.   I can guarantee that our one won't look as good as that...

Just been out for a 'no reason' run in the Saab 9-5.

Made me grin. A nice place to be!

As you where.

Anyone know which film Ry Cooder did the music for - an eighties one with Rosanna Arquette in it, something revolving around the murder of a bar owner's wife.

Bit vague I know, sorry :(

Paris Texas iirc

Edit: I might be wrong there, that one was with Nastassja Kinski

Took the headlights out of this today. Not the best but cheap. Hear loads of stories about how hard some stuff is to do to moderns but they are held in with only 3 screws

Minor grump I pulled a bit of hose off and then forgot it in the engine...

Helped a mate at work get one of those duratorques running today. He parked up a week ago, turned it off & it wouldn't start. Primed it a lot with the squeezey bulb & it works. Guess that means a split pipe somewhere letting air in the fuel line.

Bought blind VERY cheap with almost no info, turns outs it's a very nice semi acoustic bass with the only issue being about a ton of dust. To buy it new would cost £280 and after a clean up it's in nearly new condition.

Nice! Is it short scale, or flipping huge?

Yup shortscale. Was advertised as 'bass gutar' so got it for a very nice price. A quick clean up and it's good to go. Just wanted any old acoustic bass to noodle with whilst watching the telly but this one is really really nice.

This is my favorite bass, a similar cheapo. It was on ebay, collect only in Stockton on tees with one crappy photo and a listing that said "Fretless Bass Guitar" and nothing else. I got it for the £20 first bid and when I picked it up it was in a hard case!

I take it's a copy? Even so that was a bargain and then some!

Thought you might spot that... It's an unknown brand because of the decal but it seems to be a 70's cort/ibanez built one, it's basically identical to a real Fender precision.

It also isn't faked, which amuses me immensly.

I spotted the slight differences in the body and fittings but missed the fecker, shows how observant I am! I don't think Fenders are worth the money they seem to make and I bet the Ibanez electronics are better made anyway. Cracking deal at that money.

Might just be the light making it look different, because apart from the bridge it's lawsuit close.

I agree about Fender though, I couldn't afford to buy the precision now but it was just a cheap old bass when I picked it up (in the 80s)

Just been asked if I will be godfather to my mates daughter. I already am for his son. :-D

If you get bored of the playlist on 8 (it does repeat for a few days but it's something like 14 hours loop) try classic vinyl on channel 26 and classic rewind on 25.

Satellite radio ftw.

When in France last weekend, Brother-in-Law wanted me to teach his 2 year old twins some English words.  I tend to talk crap to kids as not sure what else to say, so got them saying 'boom, boosh!' (the noise an airbag makes according to Partridge) and 'win or lose' ( from the opening credits of Chasing Classic Cars).  French mum was slightly miffed, and they're still saying it apparently....a lot!

Maybe should have started instead with "feck", "gobshite", "crack cocaine", "Guinness", "Austin Allegro", "Shitroen", and "Pugget".

"Renn Oltt Twenty".

"Tin Snail".

Reminds me of a few years ago when I was working in a customer's house and their wee lad about 4 was showing me his plastic toy hammer and screwdrivers and tools. Really quiet well behaved lad. Then he brought through his picture book to show me. I had a look and asked him "Who's this then?".

The answer back - "Bob the fuckin builder".

The rest of the concrete was laid last week for the new garage base. Due to heaver than forecast rain the finish on the last two bays isn't as good as we had to rush to get them covered.

Still looks good to me.

He definitely had something to do with the film  Buena Vista Social Club from that there  castros_bro_land  but he also did scores for  Paris, Texas,   The Long Riders,    Alamo Bay and Crossroads

None of those I'm afraid as I haven't seen them other than some of Paris, Texas as Wim Wenders was one of my wife's favourite directors.
