Finally managed get a picture of one of the fleet of Ely's finest taxis, I only usually see them when driving.

They have a fleet of at least 3 (this blue one, a red and a silver one). Thought sadly the firm have now got a Tours too, but hopefully there's still life in these yet.

Ha! I saw the blue one at the roundabout by Sutton a couple of weeks ago and cursed I didn't have a chance to get a picture.

You bought a chevette?

Was chatting with a friend earlier who told me the following.  In the mid '80s when his dad came back to the UK after some years working in Saudi, he was after a new car. So they took a trip to the Motor Show where he was very impressed with the usefulness of the recently released Renault Espace which looked like nothing else on the planet.  But when enquiring with his local Renault dealership they continually mucked him around suggesting he could only have a test drive if he had already agreed to buy one.  Anyway, this went on for a while until he became annoyed enough with them to go and buy the other sensible family car he saw at the Motorshow, also a recently announced updated model.  A Cosworth BDR equipped Caterham.  Which he still owns.

Fuck no,  but you're not far off the mark!  I didn't buy one, but 1256cc is the cubic capacity of the Chevette, and being on page 1256 made me smile!  Here's a photo of one on my spotting thread.

I know Alan of old and he has always had shite taxis. He even runs some Merc MLs.

You should see his busses!

In the day he had Talbot Solaras in various shades of brown, he had a few Volvo V70s with LPG conversions which had been to the moon and back but one stands head and shoulders over the others.

I was once at a party when I was about 20. It was late Saturday night and a few of us wanted to move on to a club somewhere. A few phone calls and no taxis were available.

"No problem" I said "Stand aside! I know a man who can help!"

One call and our taxi was due in 20 minutes. I was a hero :-)

Then it arrived. A metallic brown FSO Caro.

Hero status - dissolved.

Wow, how freaky is that? I have lived up here in aberdeenshire since 1983. My grandad lived in ilkley until he died in 1999 , on his steet as a child i remember a red chevette just like the one you pictured, it was always there when we visited right until grandad died, Judging by the aa badge bodged to the bumper, its the same one, spookier still, its still in the same spot on googlepost-4577-0-46790000-1480633755_thumb.pngpost-4577-0-35493000-1480633864_thumb.png

My Dad had a chevette in that colour.   We once drove it to Spain which was bad enough but then he was delighted to find he could still receive the Archers on LW.

Just got a part for the Bentley (switch - whoop!) and got a discount... down to a hundred quid delivered. It is second hand (of course) as new they are really rather a silly price (many hundreds). In reality, this shouldn't make me grin as a hundred quid for a stupid switch is taking the piss, but a discount is a discount! :)

Bright orange Dodge Viper and a new Mustang out and about today, Viper especially made me smile.

Sitting in stationary traffic today, to the right of me is a BP Fuel station, sitting in the exit is a silver aldi a4. The lights go green so I go but all of a sudden (and I have it on dashcam) this aldi just pulls right out across the front of me, I would loved to have kept going but because I like my car I hit the brakes.  aldi driver then turns and gives ME a mouthful of expletives before driving off !?!?

Actually this should be in the grumpy thread as I thought the suggestions from the AS massive were far superior, but all to no avail, sadly

Got a nice discussion about veg oil going on a moan about the local fuel stations on a local selling site

Got a few questions asked, so I wrote a massive post about what will and won't run it, and the pitfalls etc

One bird pipes up "so I shouldn't run my xtrail on it then..." no love!

Hoping someone sees it who knows someone who has a supply etc, that would be nice! Seems easier to find weed around here than used filtered veg though

^^^ it's not hard to filter, I just went round all the local builders cafés and dropped them a 20l drum for the waste oil in return for our continued consumption of there wares...

Found possibly the second best facebook group ever (after the hoover one I'm in)

The rules make me laugh as much as the stuff posted. If we have to have rules for the new people we should write them like this, with something like the bean slosh for redemption
