What makes you grin? Antidote to grumpy thread

I wouldn't worry about injector cleaner or thrashing it. Just ask who ever it was who messed with the pump what they did to it and then correct it. Do this before fitting a new exhaust otherwise you will fill the new one up with soot in no time. Modifying cars is all well and good, but there is a reason manufactures set the pumps the way they do.

I can't do that as Chompy seems to have done a breadvan, but deleted all his content! But the pump internals were amended, so I can't just 'turn screws' and fix it.

I have a fair bit of info to get going on, so I'll adjust the air and fuel and hope. I took it to 4k+ a few times this morning and there was no smoke at all (well once but the engine was slightly cold still). It no longer puffs out a grey cloud when I turn it on, that's got to be good right? It'll never be smoke free either, I thought all 1.9td's emit a bit of smoke when provoked?

Did anyone ever find out what it was that caused Chompington to mince off into the distance?

I think something just rattled him and he wondered off. I don't know ins and outs. I do know he said something about the internals of pump having a land rover pin. I know he also turned fuelling up and did something inside. Turned diaphragm down maybe?? I believe he also did something to the waste gate rod of turbo.

Is chompy not vulgalors brother, or am I remembering that wrong?

Vulgs...we need answers. Not for the xantia pump stuff, just generally - he is missed on here.

Yes he is.  No you don't.  Yes he is.

in other news, this manky looking old thing is, amazingly, salvagable.

After letting it dry out, all the mank just brushes off with an old toothbrush.  Even the box that holds the resistor wire - the bit where float input goes in and fuel gauge output comes out - can be accessed and cleaned and is still intact and undamaged.  Dead chuffed about that.  Just got to figure out where to get a replacement filter for the bottom of the pick up pipe as the original bag has long since departed.

I hope Chompy doesn't think I'm after answers on the fuel pump thing, because I'm really not!

I just collected a set of Bini steel wheels with decent winter tyres that I won on eBay for a bargaintastic forty quid :)

The steelies will be going on the mazda with a fresh set of rainsports in the right size and the winter tyres can go back on eBay for mega-profitz as soon as it starts snowing. The wheel trims might even be worth a couple of quid to someone too.

So many good times with that car, of the six mx5s I've had so far, that one was my favourite

Although no kittens will die if you leave it off and just put an inline filter in

It seems, in Yorkshire anyway, that Laguna reliability issues have been sorted.
