What makes you grin? Antidote to grumpy thread

Went out on a tour of local dumps today to see what mowers people had cleared out over christmas as my stock was reduced to one particularly ornery mower which is an ongoing project. Managed to bag two rotary mowers for £15 for the pair which will be quick wins, one of them fired right up just adding fresh fuel, god knows why someone would chuck it out! The other needs a grass box and a bit of a clean up but should be fine otherwise.

The big grin though was that I have bagged a late 60s/early 70s Ransomes Ajax Mk5 push-mower in excellent condition, for a fiver! It looks like this:

I assume someone died and a caring* relative found this in a shed and took it to the tip, idiot. Its in great working order with the blades well adjusted and cuts beautifully, even on long wet grass as I found out when I gave it a quick go on getting home.

I'm really torn as to whether I should sell it - the going rate for a good one is about £150 - or keep it and use it to mow and roll my own lawn.

Anyway, I'm glad I got to it before it got chucked in the scrap metal pile for shiping to China.

It's the ladies of the 'craft household turn to have the television remote. I am now cheering myself up by listening to The Smiths so I don't have to hear Big Brother.

Bought a Tipo.

Know 'slightly' more about it,then you do now, other than it belongs to an ' acktaw', is 1 owner and lives in Claygate ( v upmarket south Lundun suburb ). Low mileage, Mot'd blue 1.6. What's not to love?

So, fully paid for, collect whenever. A frame probably

Happee dayz.

isabella rose young, arrived 6/1/16. all she does is sleep and eat.

Congratulations!

She looks soooo comfy. Lovely. I want one.

Look out though, we had one that just slept and ate; he was asleep when he came out, I was told off by the midwife for waking him for night feeds (but you're supposed to be up all night with a baby right?) and one day he did 23hrs sleep solid (I just shoved my boob in at regular intervals)... Turned out he was saving up enough energy to do ALL OF TEH THINGS, ALL OF TEH TIME. At 4 or 5 months he woke up and never slept like it again. By 5 months he was eating BBQ ribs, crawling, cruising round furniture and going up and down the stairs. It's been non-stop ever since :D

Make the most of it now ;)

Eating BBQ food, crawling up the stairs and an odd sleeping pattern? Sounds like my 22 year old son after a night out.

That sounds like our little girl - she just doesnt stop .

having said that she has slept from 8 til 6.30 for the last 4 nights , bliss. You dont appreciate sleep until you have been deprived of it .

After reading this I went to one of the tips, it's the only one with a resale shop.

I have never seen soo many golf club bags, each with a full club set. Around 30 of em.

Boxed Xbox 360 for £25

Would you like a 32" Sony/Panasonic TV with remote for £40? (Admittedly HD ready and not Full HD)

Endless bicycles for £35

Earthenware crockery set for £120, yes its £120, but someone lobbed it away.  :?

Got to be the BMW. Also, with the boxer running on one cylinder, was it not super lumpy?

As for Louise, its a huge advantage for the kids in the future to able to speak Welsh. I have seen loads of job adverts as close to me as Flint, and on the personal spec, its seen as a very desirable ability. So it should.

The dumps seem to be the best source of mowers for my refurbishment hobby, but there is all manner of stuff that people chuck away which is either in good nick, or can be fixed up with minimal effort. I have to say the workers at the places local to me are really helpful and always offer to help me into the car with the mowers, despite me being a relatively fit and strong 30 year old! They are also good at weeding out the utter shit from stuff which is saveable and sell it for very reasonable money. £5-10 is the going rate for a mower which I can fix up and sell within a week for £50+

I reckon you could easily do what I do with mowers but with bikes. If you offered them £50 for 2 bikes they'd bite your arm off, and you could tidy them up and then flog them on gumtree for £50 each and you'd have people banging the door down - maybe even in the hours of daylight! it'll never be a retirement fund for me, but it more than covers its costs and funds days out and stuff for the family with the profit.

Congrats Sloth! Ours is 11 days old today and she's already sleeping all though the night, I can't see it lasting!

Ours is JUST settling into sleeping all night at 18 months! If you get a sleepy one it's a blessing.

We still get an extra person in bed most nights after 3 years. It wouldn't be so bad if he didn't keep kicking the covers off!!

Having never been blessed with children this doesn't apply to us. (Sadly). Although our three year old Lurcher does her level best to compensate. Sneaks into our bed at every opportunity, gets too hot after a while and kicks the covers off!

I spent yesterday watching* the grant construction stages rally up at a very cold and foggy Knockhill. Some lovely old cars taking part, this tiger sounded fantastic and was driven with plenty of enthusiasm

As the day progressed, the fog got thicker, the temperature fell and it started to snow - so we packed up and went to the pub :)

A good set of pics here (not mine, I took a few with me phone but they were crap)

Back in the 80's I often had  Smiths tape playing in the car.My mate referred to it as "music to slash your wrists by" made me turn it up whenever he was in the car.

New baby on its way for me too. Of a sort. Pounds have been sent and shippers have been mobilised. This little baby is on its way to my front door...

Ok, it has no engine, interior, fuel tank or registration papers but owing me a grand when it gets here, I'll either punt it on for a quick buck, use the best parts for the 500 I'm currently restoring or if the shell is better than mine, well, I'll leave that up to your imagination...

About a month or so ago mrs fp purchased a charming old display cabinet on ebay, the lady we picked it up from told us that the clock had never worked since she had it, it got put upstairs in the spare room and forgot about, i was at a loose end yesterday and wound it up, it started working a nice strong tick emitted from it and more than 24 hours later it's still ticking along

This is the lovely thing

Those old Smiths clocks are really loud.  It's all that's left from my late gran's china cabinet and sadly the main spring in it is snapped and I've been utterly unable to find anyone to repair it for me.  I want to put the clock in a mantle case purely out of sentimentality.
