I managed to persuade my son to ‘drive’ a car for the first time at the weekend. He’s usually nervous to be out of his car seat in the car (which isn’t a bad thing), but whilst we were up the stables on Saturday he decided that he was happy to sit on my lap and steer whilst we went along the private farm tracks at my parent’s house.

He was properly excited once we started moving and realised that turning the wheel steered the car - only had to correct him a couple of times to keep us out of the post and rail 😂

It’ll be nice to be able to tell him that the first thing he ‘drove’ was a Citroen XM at the age of two 🤣

Im looking forward to when he’s a bit bigger and can start doing the gears and pedals. I have really happy memories of driving an old 4x4 round my aunts land when I stayed with her in the holidays. I’m hoping he can make even better memories - after all, we’ve got enough shite to drive round in up at the stables!

MK1 son 'drove' one of my rrc's round Woburn Safari park when he was 3 ( he's 32!)

He was more excited about that than any of the animals....😁

I 'drove' a Bedford CF Dormobile conversion when I was eight years old on Croy Beach (Ayrshire) sat on my uncle's lap whilst he manipulated the pedals. (My immediate family didn't drive/have a licence)
54 year later? It's still a defining moment in my life :-)

Not far from there, I sat on my Dad’s lap and steered his Mk4 Cortina along some B roads just to the south of Maybole after a blackberry picking session. I would have been 7 or 8.

Most of the reason my kids want to go to the FoD so much is they can drive my car 😂Eva got quite good last time, Charlie couldn't reach the pedals too well though

1970 - 1974 (ish) you may have driven past me, my twin brother, and my GrandDad on his 'Rudge' sit up and beg bike [with the Strumey-Archer three speed hub gears - whooo] doing the same bramble picking thing.
We'd come down the A77 from Ayr (mental these days), hack a right after Maybole then meander back over to the Alloway side of things - plunder the brambles and rock back to Granny's where she'd make Bramble Jelly.
I swore off that for life after seeing fruit fly maggots writhing around in the bucket of fruit we'd picked - won't touch Bramble Jelly to this day.

Brambles! That’s the word I was looking for. Wouldn’t have passed you, we were in Maybole from ‘76-82, his Mk4 would have been almost new at this point in ‘77/8. Mum would make jam and never saw any maggots, she would have binned the lot otherwise.

Looking forward to watching that later. Praying that it won't be shit.

Unlike Gavin & fecking Stacey where it's absolutely guaranteed

So far it’s charming, but not my favourite. Spotting the film references is fun.

For some reason I thought it started half an hour later than it did.  Typical.

You can probably watch and choose watch from start on the green / blue / red buttons.

Receiving this made me grin today, along with a boxset of all the Carry On films which I'd been after for ages.

Down seeing family today and at the grandparents house where I mentioned I was full of cold and stuff

so got offered a bath, yes please

IMG_6532.jpeg.03b20ec60b71274198ea6e6a5e7738fa.jpeg

in their delightfully 70s bathroom

i used the entire hot water cylinder worth of hot water in this bath

it was fantastic, absolutely fantastic exactly what I needed

I do need to check their cylinder stat or immersion as I used both the boiler and immersion to boost it as it was absolutely insanely hot

anyway, feeling much better for it and it’s nice to actually be in a good sized deep bath for once

yes I did fall asleep

Nah I stayed at their house when I ran them home for a bit for some peace of quiet instead of being at the mad house

Since the last time I visited my parents this beauty has appeared in their road.

Belongs to a youngish chap apparently, he uses it as his daily.

Obviously you need to point his attention to this forum.

I have never seen one of those, it looks a bit like someone drew a 205 from memory

When MK1 son bought his first land rover, a series 2a lwb, his cousins came up and we went to a local field so they could all have a go.

They were all varying degrees of pretty bad, particularly my eldest nephew who was learning to drive in a fiesta, and couldn't get the hang of an old landy at all.

Best driver? Nine year old MK3 son, who'd never driven anything in his life before, and couldn't actually see over the steering wheel. We opened the driver's bulkhead vent and he drove looking through there 😁

Thanks to another Christmas present, I have drunk 1.2 litres of strong coffee over the past two hours. I don't have a good reason for this. I fear I may not sleep for several weeks.

years of wiring experteese and software twiddling came to the rescue today to fit a cambell to the front door ..

the chinese english missed out a few things  including a trailing missing "space" at the end of the serno in order to register the device !!

the old doorbell xformer made for a charging source with its AC volts with the old doorbell now a housing for the wire connections from power to door push .

now I get a full colour view of the front garden  on my phone ....as well as every Alexia in the house shouting ding dong !!
