What makes you grin? Antidote to grumpy thread

On Wednesday morning I drove past the site of a random 1700s lead mine with a few interesting remaining buildings, I went on a tour there years ago,  it was brilliant but we weren't allowed in the depths of it all because we were the general public and it was an open day. It's not open to the public usually and I made a mental note to look to see if there was another tour one day.

Got a message off a mate of mine this morning who said he has "great plans for saturday night". I was a bit concerned, but it turns out through sheer coincidence (I've never mentioned the place to him before) that these plans turn out to be that he's got us the keys for this entire mine, and use of the attached buildings that have a bunkhouse that we can stay in and drink beer and have a nice fire etc.

Call me a sad bastard but honestly that's about as good of a saturday night as I can imagine.

I like the single traffic light, with no backup for obstructions or bulb failures

Have you visited Wades salvage in Winwick Quay? a regular haunt of mine with a splendid selection of 60's - 90's scrappers

I can't say I have, no. I do like a scrapper. I just find the owners a bit, well, lacking in customer service (to be polite).

It's well worth a visit, you can wander as long as you want, not particularly cheap but like walking into a scrappy in 1986 with  . Off the top of my head Mg's ,Stag, Beetles, Marina, Montego, Croma, E31's,  Escorts, Scimitars, Ibiza, Safrane, XM and much more

You're rather lucky to still be seeing a few, I suppose. I haven't seen one in ages. I seem to remember that once you saw rust around the filler flap, the inner arch and rear quarter had turned to dust.

There are two in my son's street, one is the lady next door but one to him.  A  '15' and she is meticulous with it, not just the usual cleaning it but doing her own servicing.  First time I saw her she had the air filter and all the intake bits out on her garage floor to clean and was changing the plugs.  No sign of rust anywhere.

The other is the same colour and there the resemblance ends.  The standard rust around the filler very much in evidence.

Fleet managers! Tired of feckless employees dragging the side of your vans along bollards? Fed up with your vans breaking out in rust blisters before the lease period's even halfway through? Have we got an elegant solution for you!

Simply enquire about our 'pre-fucked' package and you never need worry about cosmetic damage again!

(It's a van for a company that does advertising displays - dunno how Vauxhall Commercial feels about it, mind...)

Alternative method would be to tarmac over them. That way they get the insulation they crave, plus the traffic keeps flowing. Win-win, no?

I don't get why we don't just call their bluff and leave the twats glued down, they'll soon start whining when they need a shite

Saw one who'd glued his hand to a police transit van , I think a blue light run would sort that out

He'd either fall off or definitely not do it again

As someone who works fairly frequently in Warrington, the traffic there is amongst as bad as I've ever seen in my travels around the world.
I work in Birchwood, but often had to stay at Winwick, as that's were the hotels were that had availability. I thought one day it would be really fun to try going across town. An hour later, I was about half way.

You tend not to notice traffic volumes increasing until you go somewhere else , Warrington always seem to be busy , especially considering it's surrounded by motorways

I quite often think where are all these people going at 11am , they can't all be pensioners , does nobody work any more

Not only was it a 1700s lead mine, but it was haunted and cursed. Flipping amazing place to stay!

Six officers, though. No wonder there's nobody available when you really need 'em.
