Doing a cambelt and dephaser on a 1.6 VVT Renault and fucking it up has put me off it for a long time, do I need to worry about changing the belt on my 1.1 FIRE Panda engine?

99% sure pre Euro 5 1.1 FIREs (around 2010 change) were non interference, certainly the 1.2 was.

That's comforting as our lasses 2009 1.2 500 is still on the original belt.

Why bother producing a 1.2 and a 1.1 engine? what a waste of resources! Surely you'd just put the 1.2 in everything?

Its been freezing today, even darn sarfend mate, but I haz no warm air coming into the cabin!!

Recent new waterpump / thermostat and all that malarkey, and the engine was well up to temperature.

Why no warm air from that lovely hot KV6??

It did seem a bit pointless as (apparently) the 1.2 was more economical than the 1.1 and they were both group one insurance.

The Cortina is nice. It depends if you ever want to own one again as the chances are you'll not get one that nice without spending a shite load more than what you're into it for.

However, selling the Cortina could still get you a nice SD1 Vitesse or a REALLY nice xr4i.

I'll be selling mine once/if ever I finish welding it up.

To make you feel worse, I was so toasty in the Dyane today that I had to turn the heater off. It was melting my shoes.

Sounds like it's got an airlock. My tip would be to park it with the header tank as the highest part of the cooling system, then go around squeezing all of the pipes. You may have to use ramps and/or hills to achieve a good angle, or use a cut-off bottle jammed into the expansion tank to raise the height of the coolant. You really don't want airlocks in a KV6 cooling system...

I collected my Cortina this evening from my in-laws after it being there since last September time, it's been in their garage and unstarted about 3 months now without even disconnecting the battery but I jumped into it tonight, a few turns of they key and it fired into life and I drove it straight home which is about 25 miles.

... wooly steering...

Fit some wheels it was designed for rather than the mk2 Rostyles, it may help sort the woolly feel.

I've still got the original steels and chrome caps in the shed but I don't think they suit it, I was thinking of some sport steels but I'm not sure. I've never been 100% sure on the Rostyles.

For what it's worth, I did a cambelt on a VW 1.8 DX engine, and I'm a complete clusterfuck.

The engine ran fine afterwards.

I bought a panda with a busted cam belt years ago. Seller thought it had bent all the valves, threw a belt on it and it was all good!

Ran a Yorkshire Terrier over earlier. Understandably feel absolutely shit - it ran out into the road as I was passing and it was my back wheels that went over it.

Owner wasn't too keen to give details (understandably - they wanted to get their dog to the vets), so I've got the house number and will have to pop back later.

Doesn't seem to be any damage to the car and the police are aware. Poor little sod.

I hope the dog is ok - at least you stopped.

In other news I have put the A6 on ebay - classified ad. Not exactly priced to sell but it should keep the great unwashed from mithering me.

If it does'nt sell it's no loss - there are worse cars to be stuck with.

Running a dog over is reportable under the RTA so I could potentially have been in bigger shit if I had just done one.

Going back shortly to see what the crack is!

I wouldn't go back personally as the owner will most likely play on your good nature and try to get you to pay for the vet bills. You have done your bit best to leave it at that.

It is John but you would be surprised how many people just fuck off without stopping.

They don't let the law get in the way.

Johnk that's a horrible thing to happen, I hate it when I see dogs off lead near a road, especially small ones as they are harder to spot, fair play to you for stopping and doing the right thing where alot of folk would have carried on and claimed not to have felt or heard anything

He lives 4 doors down from the house we are currently renovating so it's not as though I can slink into the woodwork! I might be good natured but he can shove his vets bills up his arse, the dog was unrestrained outside a house with no fence/gate around the garden on a main road. Unavoidable unfortunately as he ran out from behind a parked car and ran towards the middle of my car so my back wheels hit him, probably at around 25ish. The first I saw of him was out of my drivers door window!

Productive shite shuffling day today - more later when everything's finished

or why not do like the fisher men convicted indecent assaulters do, and tie a couple of old tyres together and hang them over you cars doors?

Fleet movements in sunny Yorkshire today... one car re-housed with a serial AS chod botherer (who will no doubt be along to announce his new acquisition shortly) and another AS bike being collected later this evening from... er, another serial AS chod botherer.

End result: same number of cars as when I started. So much for slimming down the fleet :-)

Sounds interesting - looking forward to the reports

Up early this morning, call out to a Yam XJ600 with a flat rear tyre. Tyre had come off the bead on a roundabout  . Messed around at the side of the road with my wee 12v air pump, a ratchet strap and some rubber gloves and eventually got it back on the rim. Headed over to collect a pair of roof bars for the Saab that were on Gumtree, but turned out to be for a saloon, so bought his bike carrier instead. Headed home and popped a new offside front wheel bearing on the Zafira, washed the Saab, replaced the offside rear door lock on the Panda, fixed the gas fire on the caravan, repaired one of the remote keys on the Zafira, had some tea, then off to Cupar to jump start a 307,for the 3rd time this week. Watered the plants, tidied the shed then sat down to Autoshite, with a bit of some mad programme with her off 2 pints (oof)

Amazing what you can get done on a sunny Sunday when you're up with the birds.

I'm sitting in the departure lounge at Dublin Airport, heading home after a cracking weekend visiting Ms_Chegg.

Highlights included seeing my first Hurling match, finally papping a black Granada I've been meaning to photograph for ages and being overtaken by a bright orange 1960's Mustang in full-on hoon mode ☺

I know how you feel - I ran a cat over 15 years ago and I can still feel that "bump" sensation when I think about it.

The old lady had one friend, that cat.  We sat in the road comforting it, and she was basically begging me to do it again to put the poor sod out of it's misery.

Horrible.

Hope it all plays out well.

I very nearly hit a dog last fireworks night with Eva in the car. Bumbling down an NSL at 55ish, suddenly there's a dog running towards me. Poor dog must have fucked off to the right at just the tight time cos I swear I hit it, but there was no bang.

Hope all goes well
