Went out in the Civic with Old Man today - a while ago found him a pin badge of a blue Civic too - gave him that as a Father's Day gift.

The 15" Michelins off the Bini are noisy as hell, and the Bini is actually reasonably comfortable compared to the Civic, that just, well, isn't. I'm really not enjoying that car, it's completely bland.

Meanwhile, Old Man has a suspicion the Bini is burning oil.

I saw my old Opel Kadett today at a show for the first time since i sold it 4 years ago, It still looks good. It was really nice to see it again.

I always dread the previous owners of my cars seeing them. Year upon year they get rustier and mechanically tired despite vast sums of money being sunk into them and although conversations are always pleasant I always come away with the suspicion that I'm seen as that useless cunt that has ruined their car...

I promised Bill, the lovely chap that I bought the Princess from three years ago, that I'd go back and see him when I'd sorted the running niggles out.  The car looks so bad now compared to how good it superficially looked when I bought it that I daren't let him see it!  I worry for his health if he did, even though it's actually a much better car now than it was.

Fuel smell in the Triumph cabin?  Check all the rubber hoses in the engine bay.  Giffer owners are very good at not noticing perished pipes or worse, just applying silicone bullshit spray to hide the cracks!

Posted

Another thing for the Triumph fuel smell- check if the fuel tank has a breather hose vented to the outside world- on SWMBO's spitfire the hose had disappeared meaning it was vented into the cabin.

Yep, a CVH powered Sierra, I posted about it here a few weeks back you may remember.

Just a small thing trig, if that's a 1.8, then it's the North American iCVH engine.  Quite different to the  European 1.6 CVH also used in late Sierra's.

All of those iCVH powered cars had engines that came from Chihuahua Mexico!

I'm off for a bit.

Not flouncing or anything, just giving up Autoshite for a while. Its shaping up to be a lovely summer and I am pissing away my evenings and free time reading this forum and the handful of other websites I look at every day instead of doing something constructive with my tedious life.

Luckily the Dolomite fuel system is piss easy to sort as it has good access all over.

Posted

...although it's developed a strong fuel smell now in the cabin which I will need to investigate...

Does it have charcoal canisters?

Went to see my old man's grave yesterday for the first time since we buried him ten years ago. Never cried then, or since... bawled my eyes out yesterday. No idea why but it all just hit me. Still, done it now. Will hopefully cope better next time.

I tried this once... I was back the same day. Life seemed so empty without Autoshite. As for it shaping up to be a lovely summer. Haha! Not here matey. Raining and 14 degrees does not a summer make. Lol

Some thieving bastards have had my rear wiper blade off from the Vectra. It could have been worse, the car in front had both front wiper arms ripped off and the rear number plate stolen.

Oh well, that's what happens when you lend your son your car to go to Knowsley

Safari Park.

To compensate for this I went mad and spent a whole fiver getting a wash and go from the local Polish car wash, and today I have conducted a scientific survey to answer THE question everyone has asked:

Can you fit a fruit machine into a Vauxhall Vectra C? The vendor said no (and asked where my van was) and my car said....

The A41 was entertaining on the way home, I nearly had to hold my plums a couple of times and almost lost my cherry to a Transit van.

Sounds to me like you have coped admirably.  I wish I could mourn mine, but hey, life goes on.

My knees should be recovered enough in a few weeks for me to be able to return to work. This forum has been a God send, but won't have the time to spend hours on end here (much is the pity), but I will learn to weld and put this to good use!

Best of luck with your sabbatical.

This morning whilst locking up the Merc before bouncing into work I noticed the left-hand front wheel not looking straight compared to the other, it points in the right direction but looks as if the damage is a bit deeper than I thought.

I'm unsure really what to do. I'm trying to save up for marriage so looks like I'll be driving as it is now, I really can't afford to spend more money on it.

Looks like I've got another green 5 door 306 with a Bosch pump:

I have stashed enough money away in the 2CV restoration fund to allow me to buy a fairly rotten Dyane. I knew this would be difficult.

Haven't updated on the Carismerable because nothing even remotely interesting has happened.

In more interesting news, the parental Omega goes in for test tomorrow but is unfortunately quite crunchy in a number of places. Apart from the outer rear arches that would crumble if you gave them a stern look, vigorous poking with a poking implement hasn't resulted in any holes.

Still... We're not expecting a pass.

In todays news, I have not gone to work. Mrs Seals Clio continues to run faultlessly, I am still waiting for a council garage so I have somewhere to park my futureshite, folks 10-plate Insignia keeps throwing up warning lights after being serviced to the point where Dad wants to get shot of it.

Oh and it's a sunny day in Shetland (for now at least)

It transpires that you can fit a mk2 Cavalier exhaust centre section in a Peugeot 106...

It also transpires that I've made the right decision to scrap the Cavalier - there's a lot of rust under the front right suspension mounting plate, and I put the end of the 1/2" ratchet straight through it.

I have bought petrol today for the first time in 5 months, 2 weeks and 2 days. £39! That was a shock to the system I can tell thee! :)

Must get out more!

Drove The Volvo to work today, where it met three of its relatives, which were mainstays of my company's truck fleet for ten years until this May, when they were replaced by brand new MAN units:

They have been sold for export for £10,000 each!

On the way home, I passed the Lakeside branch of the late, unlamented Carcraft, so I stopped to take a photo:

I wonder how many of its former customers are still driving happy?

I'm sure somebody can photoshop that to CAVCRAFT - We're not happy until you're not happy
