Further to my Saturday pictorial news post dealing with the water pump replacement on the 750L...

A new cambelt and tensioner arrived today. I've just been out and fitted it and put the crankshaft pulley back on as well. If all goes well I will probably finish it tomorrow night. I'll give it an oil change and a new filter too (I've got one 'in stock' somewhere...)... If not tomorrow, then the weekend no doubt...

The fiat fire engine is a peach . Bit prone to hgf but mainly due to lack of coolant changes.

Just washed and polished the fiat ready for auto Italia at brooklands on Saturday. Is anyone else going?

THE BRIDGE MAN, WHERE IS THE BRIDGE?!

Decided to unleash some bodgery upon the trailer tent of win. Got the lights working a few days ago, so it was time to try to get rid of some holes.

First, this small one right above my head when I am hoping to be sleeping in it.

The plastic window has a tear here, which makes zipping the door very difficult. It now works. For how long?

Then I got a bit heavy handed with this enormous rip.

It was a hole big enough for a fox to get through. Fortunately, we have no rabbits. Off camping in it on Saturday. Can't wait.

Frankly, I am surprised Hammerite isnt water-soluble these days.....all the effective products of years past are being replaced by "green" shit which isnt nearly as good - everything from vehicle paints to weedkiller.

Most of the time it's not that they deliberately want to make a product green it's that new REACH chemical regulations have made a lot of chemicals and solvents too expensive to make as you need to jump through hoops to get it registered as reach compliant, which means that all the nice harmful stuff we used to use is now unavailable.

If its any consolation it's as much as a pain in the fucking arse reformulating this kind of thing with green ingredients as it is to use it.

New(er) Viano coming on Monday. Identical but newer, and with fewer miles. Meet the new bus, same as the old bus. Air suspension unit crapped itself on the existing one today, blowing out a seal. Proper repair kit from M-B dealer?

£17!

Got a chap lined up to fit it all together for £50.

Phew.

Right, that's mrs gm dropped off at the airport - what automotive mischief can I get up to before she returns on sunday evening ? Time for a cuppa and a look round gumtree :)

After struggling to get the 50 Plymouth insured with specialist insurer's (due to the fact that the car isn't garaged) I called my normal insurance company. They quoted $226 for 6 months insurance and I told them it was modified but they didn't care and didn't even need the modifications listed!!! BINGO where do I sign. Now I just need to get the brakes bled this weekend and fingers crossed I'll be able to drive it.

In other news my friend has just bought this. She's over the moon with it. It's a 76 with the L82 option and the cat has been removed and it's got headers. No idea what she paid for it mind. Hoping that I'll get a ride in it this weekend.

That's in Walton, Stone, Staffs. I know where that lives! I used to deliver papers to the house where it 'belongs' when I was 14. i'm 44 now!

Regularly see it outside Aldi too.

After work I popped to Mahmouds to help out for a bit. Had a play with the Micra to see what is causing the rear window mounted stop lamp to not work. Seems to be in a small wire loom that runs from inside the tailgate down into the car. Not sure where exactly the broken wire is but it'll need replacing. Annoying.

Micra has had a new CV joint and gear oil refilled.

I will be going down there tomorrow, but sadly I will not be adding to the amount of blue Grand Finales, even though I do have one,  with MOT and tax, this is due to various logistics problems / work being a pain to book time off.

Well say hello.

Oh, and at the risk of being geeky. Mine isn't a gran finale. It's a special edition, yes, same paint interior and dealer fitted spoiler, but no badging. Gf were available from March 1989, mine is dec. 1988, registered jan 1989.

Taking the crash damaged bumper off my 1300, some of the bolts were a bit bent...

Big changes on the Horizon for the Victor. I've got it booked into a bodyshop week after next to sort out the paintwork it needs on the front wing and bootlid, then it'll be pretty much immaculate. I've also purchased a secondhand overdrive gearbox, at great expense, from Ebay which should make the car much better on the motorways. I've also bought a new clutch, so I just need the shorter propshaft from an FE VX4/90, and the longer speedo cable from the same model and I think I should be ready to start the conversion.

New heater bypass installed, car is now continent again.

Easy to install, zip tied to the bulkhead down behind the engine. Involved lying fully up the front of the car and on the engine for a mere 45 mins. Only ended up bleeding a little bit* as my hands are big and the gap was small.

I also managed to fiddle with the heater controls to stop them resetting to off EVERY time the key is taken out the ignition.

Now to find someone with a saab techII unit. The bongs, bleeps and autolock are driving me insane. Open car on key fob - BEEP BEEP. Helpfully this doesn't unlock the boot, thats on another button, BEEP BEEP BEEP. Sit in and put key in ignition, BONG BONG BONG (seatbelt not on), drive off CLUNK as all locks lock. Stop, get out, try and get in boot, nope, locked. Either fumble for the key fob (already in pocket) and BEEP BEEP BEEP, or the helpful option of back to the drivers door and the boot release button. Helpfully next to the fuel cap release button. GAAAH.

All I want is the car, the whole car to unlock when I press the unlock button. And to stay fucking unlocked until I tell the fucking thing to lock. AND STOP FUCKING BEEPING AT ME

Phil_lip came by in the ex Garycox Escort, and left in the Rover 220; off for his second stint as owner, leaving me with the now ex Garycox/Phil_lip Escort. It was good to catch up, talk shite and ruefully exchange DVLA stories. It's already up on ramps to tackle the cambelt change ( the kit came with the car).....
