The MK1 CRV with the speed relative clonking from the rear came back today for a flush out and refill of the rear differentials dual pump fluid.

Last week after doing a few full lock left and right turns the clonking had mostly gone away although the front wheels felt like they were binding up on full lock.

IMG20260616120927.jpg.9236fbc64846de862220edd384120381.jpg

Fluid drained and a fresh litre bunged back in I went for a run with a few full lock manoeuvres before draining it again and refilling once more.

The second fill and revisit to the carpark for full lock shenanigans seems to have cured the rear clonking and also the front drive winding up.

I can only apologise for using a glue together boot but I didn't want to fight the corroded suspension fixings to extract the shaft from the hub.

IMG20260616115025.jpg.cb225818c2849e42ae1331293c14a052.jpg

So with the clonking fixed for the cost of oil and a CV boot (£52) the battery then decided to fall over.

IMG20260616154226.jpg.b0858644a3102ee0c77b1c1c25499a6e.jpg

So another £54 spent  for a GSF sourced replacement.

I've also been back out to the Stag that's sat since Covid. I had taken the gummed up and leaking carbs home for a thorough clean up and fitted them back on and pulled the plugs out for a clean and tickle with a blow torch.

Annoyingly with the ignition switched on there's still a leak from the o/s carb that slowly started to fill the V between the heads with fuel. So with the hose clamped off to the faulty carb I had a go at a start up but the engine wasn't even trying so ipulled a plug out and it was bone dry.

Looking down the inlets of the carbs I found they were also bone dry so I dribbled some petrol straight into them and tried again which resulted in an instant start and the engine kept running until I switched it off.

IMG20260616161708.jpg.d0b499e2a46eb7f0701e7fcf82b9a084.jpg

The carbs are back off again and the leak is coming from a hardened O ring that seals this plug in the float bowl.

We have come to the decision to trailer the car over to my place as there's not enough room to work on it where it sits and I have the fear of a fire could burn the owners house down. I can't jack it up on the driveway either as its been freshly done with fine shingle that's bonded together with resin.

IMG20260615110033.jpg.597d20d0bf8d3d3f69e84f2331c88d2d.jpg

I need it outside high up in the air so I can pull the gearbox out to free the clutch.

Sadly I didn't manage to get the Kitten ready for my works vehicle enthusiasts day today but there was plenty of cool stuff

An interesting bit of diy bodgery, If you don't want to weld, or fill a hole with wob, you can also consider cutting the lid of an ice cream can to roughly obscure the rot:

A very plain* repair, raspberry ripple might match the rest of the paint! 😀

It's summer now and that means Germans on holiday here in all sorts of strange vehicles. This morning I was behind this one which I think is an old Land Rover and which had a fantastic exhaust smell and on the hills was doing 40kmh.

How did that ever get an APK on it? It had one for the past year.

That looks like an  ex-ambulance.  Based upon a series Landie it will be slow and top heavy.

I don't think that hole will be a fail, it didn't pass though because of rust (and a leaking exhaust), so I assume it won't be great underneath either.

It was slow and going down the road like someone on their way home from the pub so yes probably a Land Rover.

I bit the bullet and bought my ticket for FOTU this year. £27 is quite steep for any show IMO, but I hope it’s worth it.

According to Motorwise, I can either accept £204 upon collection for my car, or I can drive it to Exeter and get £2.

Tricky one that.

That the Pug? Madness isnt it?
I cant remember who uplifted the Astra after I sank it in the black lagoon, but they offered a decent enough price and took it away - think it might have been cartakeback.com

In other news the local garage are into day 2 with the alto for a clutch FFS.

Left my works bag in the boot and I have no doubt my works phone will have been driving them mad ringing all day!

I don't really do 'spots' any longer but this C1 in Ruins of Tomorrow condition jumped out at me as it pulled up.

The surreptitious snap doesn't convey how utterly hackit the bodywork was. Absolutely ripe.

My son is 13 but hes still 5 to me so how can cars of this age be old?

I went to a village car meet this evening at a place called Tostock near Bury St Edmunds, I've never been before but basically once a year they open up the village green to cars to help the village pub, or something like that.

There was lots of interesting cars there but the real show stealer was this 1966 Caterpillar DW20 ground scraper which has been converted to a truck with a 50s American Truck bed and twin stacks. What a way to make a entrance to a meet!

And here's some of the other more interesting (to me) cars.

This is what I took, well it's the only old car I have on the road at the moment, it's going in next month for the bumpers and rear quarters to be done and I can't wait!

New daily picked up yesterday, can’t go wrong for £1500! Just had a new turbo, service history is thick as thieves. Everything works (twin sun roof, Bluetooth, parking sensors, even has heated seats in the rear!) nice to be in something modern

Heads up for anyone who has a Bini CooperS R53,  replace your dipstick.

Its made of fibreglass and can snap off inside the guide tube.

I got a metal replacement from ModAMini for £16.99 posted. Much easier to read the white end as well.

This crack on my 205 tail panel has been annoying me for quite some time,I tried a few different methods to repair it,but it always cracked again.

Will see if this lasts, will repaint the whole panel but for now a squirt of grey primer will suffice.
