Broke into the world of RC crawlers today with this 1/16 Hilux.

There's a big range of cheap upgrade parts which I'll have fun with!

Goes well.

Just tried a few scrap my car quotes for the VW Transporter van, Mein Gott the prices have dropped. Struggled to break £200!

Yeah, don't know whats going on, when I scrapped a P38 about 3 years ago, I got nearly £500, but a Freelander 2 only quoted about £215, and an s type Jag less than that!

I'd have thought with all the uncertainty on steelworks the price would have increased, I know scrap isn't the same quality, but still

Before you spend too much on upgrades, these are fun but if you want to do anything really interesting a scx24 or FTX24 are massively more capable.

Thankfully I have enough children to buy all three 😂

The trick is to buy the full size belts and cut them down into approx 1-1.5cm strips. Not only do they seem to last longer, it's a much cheaper way to get them.  If you have a guillotine you can get nice straight belts but a strong pair of scissors is enough to get something perfectly usable.

I agree though that finger sanders / aka power files are one of the best things.

Only thing to watch is to never put too much pressure on it, let the belt do the work.  The bearing on the tip of the sander overheats and fails mega quickly if you lean on it for more than a few seconds.

I've been through a few..

How many T5 does this twat want? He's owned the R for as long as I can remember. The other two seem to be recent editions.

He also has a pair of 75s. I think they're v8 going off the exhausts.

Following the untimely death of my best mate and VWBus co-editor, Alan Hayward. I seem to be in charge of the show and shine entrants at Camper Jam. There's a very nice looking drop top Golf but the owner claims to have added a pop n bang remap. Obviously I've moved him to the very back of the queue.

There was one of these - literally in a class of its own - at the 2CV 24-hour last year.  Belgian or Dutch team, BMW bike power, hilarious access/egress using a stepladder.  Their pit stops were not rapid!

This is a 602 engine. Jerry ( builder and owner ) has spent two days this last week swapping a brake caliper. There is zero access.

Where esle would it be ? 😁😇

I'm in a meeting room all weeks at the factory, but there was no way I could arrive before 11 am if I got the first flight out of Manchester at Silly o'clock on Monday, which would mean getting up at fuck that for a game of solicitors (I'll keep the shit auto correct in) o'clock.

So I flew out today.  Only one direct flight on a Sunday so it was either leave the house at 5am and have the day here, or leave later in the afternoon and have to get a train from AMS.  So did a bit of shite seeing.

I'll probably be able to do it in 15 minutes next time.  This time involved chisels, drills, an angle grinder and much swearing.

It's done now though.

Only issue is I've somehow buggered up the routing of the bonnet cables so the nearside bonnet lock doesn't pop back into position unless I wiggle the cables - seems like something's pulling on the cable and it's not getting enough slack.  I can live with that for now though.

I say "only issue", but I've still got to get the system recharged and see if my repair attempt is gas tight...

The Golf provides sterling service and I genuinely love how tight and smooth it is to drive.

however it will be available for sale soon I think. It’s too nice to use as a workhorse, and I know full well I want an estate.

I love ToT. His videos are absolutely brilliant. The subject matter is sort of irrelevant - I have a passing interest in machining but it could be horse racing or bonzai tree tips - I'd still watch his videos, they're really well made and he has a GSOH.

What a stupid idea, rearrange the transport museum in this weather.

VW Transporter gone as of last night. Made the stupid mistake of pressure washing all the Volvo's and our old V40 T4 looked good once dry and may have turned my head a little. 🫣

This is a big thing for me as it's the first and highly likely the first only time this will happen.

I have polished my turd.

IMG_5507.jpeg.ed75885db5a2c37d5b6ab0506f9f9f3d.jpeg

It's still covered in dents, scratches, transferred paint and some very questionable patched in respray efforts though i'm looking forward to watching the rain bead on the bonnet as i slip through the air with added speed because shiny.

Morning edit;

Currently sporting a matching set of rusty steels up front as i can't find where I put the alloy wheel bolts for the remaining Pug alloys The two for the front look to be powder coated quite well. One green and the other black.
