Fantastic trig, proper job as they say in these parts. Can't wait to see the car when it's all finished

Robt - what cavalier did you plump for? My gut feeling is that it's a plush velourious CD Auto of some description.

Repaired the sill on the 18.

There was a very small rust "slot" visible through the paint, this turned into a 6x2" patch.

Sorted, so just need to do the wing on friday.

Slightly concerned though about another area of the sill, I can see very poorly sanded/not sanded at all filler on it.

No issue to fix but it's higher up than the other patch and will need dressing after welding unfortunately if it's rotten.

I have been listing car mags on ebay again. Takes me about 20 mins per mag, each of which I value at £1.50 BIN which is more like a quid once ebay have taken their cut!!! £3 hourly rate, brilliant

True... On the other hand, every single hour of shite tinkering you do is a saving of between £50 (friendly ex-Perodua garage round the corner) and £150 (Porsche main dealership).

Verdict : Forget about the mags and drive down to the unit

Fine start to the morning- MOT on a Spitfire and then a tinker with a '68 Mk1.

Spitfire did have aeroplane similarities....it was RAF.

if it was a genuwine "A" reg it would have a separate rear washer in center of tailgate above boot lock not the all in one deeley as on that one has

I'd always assume a changed tailgate first!

Spent an hour this morning trying to get the undertray re fitted. all of the fixings were rusted to buggery so resorted to couple of cable ties and some new bolts and washers.

Then found a radio code calculator online so now i haz toons back in the xantia.

On a roll i decided to investigate the clock. The hour button works but not minute which has really been bugging me as time was 20 mins out. Took it all apart and cleaned it but to no avail. Going to have to get a new one

Also decided to see if i could see fix the passenger central locking. If you lock it from that door everything is fine. Lock from drivers door and it pops back open. After a good spraying of plus gas and working it back and forth no change so going to live with it.

When I first purchased it it had been run from new by a little old chap and covered a meagre 27K miles.

No love for VWs here, but congratulations on your first magazine! I know how you feel. At least a little bit, ´cause I work as a freelance-writer for www.allradnews.at

They sound properly amazing these V6 tagoras. Like almost in the Ferrari Dino league.

Still waiting to hear about prices for headgasket for the merc, and now the 2CVs playing up. Wipers going mad and voltage regulator giving 17v on the mulitmeter. Battery been overcharging for a while as there are sulphate deposits on the wing.

Also on Sunday I killed my fridge freezer  - word to the wise, don't use a knife to encourage ice to leave the freezer. There was a hissssss and a lovely Freon smell to go with the bad language.

I'm going to go and live in a cave far away from cars and modern technology.

Cor that's a good noise from the tagora. The intake trumpets look awesome too I'm down with the trumpets.

Richardmorris , you are not the first to kill a freezer like that. Ask me how I know that !

Or a 202 mile Renault 5?

Or a mint ex-Patrick Rugg BX TD for £500-£700?

Or a 21k Mk4 Cortina 2.0? I bet the Doctor gets a stiffy reading catalogues like that, imagining the "minor paint rectification" he'd get to do.

Quick tip. Before buying a new voltage regulator, check the earth points near the washer bottle. Give them a good clean. A poor earth here caused my 2CV to start over-charging. A new voltage regulator was an unnecessary expense. I ended up rigging up a jump lead directly to the negative terminal from that earth point. It then started charging normally.

Binning Princess 1 is VERBOTEN, that's the point and why nobody wants to own it.

Is that what they call a 'shite elephant'?

Good news;

New Volvo is running well, particularly after the thermostat was replaced this morning with a nice new one. Also mended are the courtesy lights as the driver's switch wasn't switching.

Bad News;

The ABS light that was coming on occasionally is now on pretty much constantly and the front carpets are absolutely soaked. It's possible these two things are related.

Heater is brilliant now though.

Well, I didn't win the K-reg Rover Sterling on eBay. I watched as the auction went into its last seconds, I was the highest bidder until about 6 seconds before the end when suddenly a couple of bid came in. Just as well really, I should be squirrelling my money away. It'll give me more scope to find an V6 800 Coupe or sort the 75 if/when I come back to England.

Fixed the 2CV this evening. Loose connection on the battery earth.  On a plus note, eurocarparts are doing bosch 063 batteries for £37 on ebay at the moment with free delivery or collection  - £20 cheaper than walking in off the street.

Now just got to get someone to fix the panzer command vehicle.

Just got back from collecting the Cavalier. It didn't break down which is always a bonus, and despite being a bit of a heap to look at it drove well enough. It's a CD so has the 2 litre 8v engine which I like A LOT. The usual sprint off from the Dartford toll crossing meant I left Mr TDi reptard in my wake. Eat my crumbling rear arches u mutha! Mind you, being a manuel reminds me how tedious changing gear is in rush hour traffic, so its time in the fleet may be brief.

No pics I'm afraid but update the cav attitude thread soon.

A bit of an update on the wet carpet issue. Stripped the driver's footwell today to find big pools of horribly brown water and some properly ruined sound deadening which has gone in the bin never to return. Fortunatley the floor is all solid and most of the water has been mopped out. Plans are to remove all the carpets to find out where the leak is and then stop it leaking so that I can reassemble the interior. Since it rains 386 days a year in Scotland, I won't have to wait too long to find where it's coming from...

On the plus side, I can still waft about in it knowing that Iit's even more council than the council estate.
