Sorry but that does my head in. These folk need to grow a set, look at their household finances, if nothing needs doing and it's their own money then make their own decision and spend it.

Christ. Babies.

GLWTS

Either that, or he wants his wife to be the bad guy, the mean old lady who said no. Maybe he is having doubts himself but wants the responsibility to sit with her so he can tell himself he would have gone for it otherwise. A similar level of cowardice and abdication of personal responsibility, really.

They are in the process of buying a small business, he says, but if that's the case, and if that's the reason you can't have the car... say that.

‘My wife said no’, an excuse from car buyers as old as time itself.

In good news my only currently fully working vehicle passed its MoT today! (Well… after a new tyre)

Could be worse… (pictures do not do the absolute hanging nature of this justice)

That's a really early Monaco.  First one I can recall seeing with the GTX badging still on the pillars and just the Monaco badge on the bootlid.

Hanging or not, hopefully that doesn't get cubed.  Or at least if it does it's stripped of a hell of a lot of parts first, R25 bits definitely don't grow on trees these days.

Looks to have far less clear coat peel than mine!

First wash and vacuum in my ownership. Apart from the front bumper this is my nicest condition car by a mile.

The keyless entry and start has stopped working for some reason. I wondered if it was the fob battery getting low, but not enough that it throws a message on the dash, and just enough to open the car with the button.  So I bought a new CR3032 battery. If that doesn't work well no big deal, it doesn't affect anything, I just felt aloof and cool AF getting into my car and driving away without the key!

I was worried I wouldn't enjoy the 75 any more but I drove it today and still enjoyed it just as much as I did before.

Five years ago I engine swapped a Civic. It was a bit of a bodge job. And it was still automatic.

Time to do it again properly, with more knowledge.

That’s the plan, it was bought having been stored for a very long time, but was much worse than expected. Hoping to sell to an enthusiast with the parts contacts to fix, or to someone for spares.

Interesting, I don't think I had that issue. Might really just be a battery getting low, keyless entry and start is what makes this car still feel like a new car to me!

Same here, I'm sure I'll get it working again but it has so many other good qualities anyway.

My 2005 Laguna II V6 had keyless entry and start 🙃

Fully worked too! 🤣

Is that A8 the forum slag which was the catalyst of bumpergate? :)

It must be racking up the owners now. Replacement for the Vel Satis? Hopefully doesn't recreate the inferno death..

I accidentally fixed a car at the weekend.  Took the Visa for a spin on Sunday, and on a deserted bit of road I decided to try an emergency stop to find out just how shite the brakes are.  It pulled up from 40mph reasonably quickly - certainly not the worst brakes I've ever experienced, but I'd rather they were better.  I decided to give it another try with handbrake assistance, and bugger me if that didn't bring the brake pedal up to where it should be.  And it's stayed there since.  So I assume the excessive travel was due to the rear shoes not having adjusted themselves and yanking the handbrake on while hard on the footbrake woke them up.

So that's one major job ticked off the list - now I just need to find someone who knows what they're doing to give the engine a service and tune-up and it'll be ready for regular use.

I also took the Volvo for a quick drive, just far enough to get it up to temperature.  I popped the bonnet when I got back to see whether the new gaskets I bought from Skandix at great expense have managed to stop the radiator cap leaking.  They do appear to have done the trick (touch wood), but the coolant level was still very low - fortunately it was obvious where it was going, the Jubilee clip holding the radiator top hose onto the thermostat housing had rusted away and snapped.  I had a new clip the right size in my stash so that was another easy fix.  Unfortunately the Volvo needs rather more TLC than the Visa before it's properly sorted - it's mechanically OK now but needs several bits of welding and the brakes sorting (I'm probably going to renew the remaining steel brake pipes this year as well).

Then I went round the block in the Innocenti.  That drove perfectly, as it always does (couldn't go far in it though as it's not MOT'd).  Actually I tell a lie, the brake warning light flashed up a couple of times going round corners, but that's a result of me fitting a standard Mini master cylinder which is not designed to sit at the jaunty angle it does in the Innocenti.  I need to take the car to the garage at some point and get a quote for the welding it needs, which is quite fiddly and would be much better done up on a ramp.

It is indeed.

I had to replace a couple of missing tyre valve dust caps today.

I didn't need to remove the bumper.

Indeed.  Every time it comes up for sale I think "Ooh, I like that", then I remember that it's in too high an insurance group to go on my trader's and I feel sad.

One chapter in this 1970s book ("The Small Business Casebook", S. Birley) is about the (mis)management of Gilbern. The price and specs of the Invader are being compared to other cars, but this list doesn't seem to make much sense? Cars in a totally different price and performance league (AC, Aston, Dino), the Citroen DS and GS, floppytop Cortina... Also, according to sir Google the Crayford William is a microcar!

'borrowing' is the legal term IIRC, in the short term - though I paid something like £30 for that estate, in a state.

Indeed. Or, perhaps, different types of 'key' - mine was a stubby flat-blade :)

Some random offered a straight swap on my Amazon.

He has a fucked L322 Range Rover worth about £1500 on a good day. Yeah, how about no and get the fuck out of my garage, blud?

I fucking hate L322s anyway; they're too fucking big and drive like wobbling fat cunts.
