Run away. It's probably rotten as fuck. Jimnys do like to rust and I've been bitten by them before.

Bought a diesel heater. Same style that a lot of folk on here have. Thanks @SiCfor your thread on it a while back. Finally convinced me 😁.

I figure it might be more economical than running my electric fans in the garage come winter although I'll need to see who will actually sell me red diesel in small quantities (20litres) as I believe it's still ok to buy for heating property.

Mounted it out the road beside the vent, so I could get an exit for the exhaust. Need to get a couple of battery clamps and a switch for a more professional* setup, but otherwise done.

The Vito went, don't think I'll ever have another of those to keep, it was shit. Sod's law, of course, dictated that we fixed the non-starting problem before it was sold.

Anyhow, as wonderful as the Expert is, you can't get bigger bikes in the back and big(ger) vans are more useful for shit, so when this popped up for sale through a friend of a friend, it seemed a no-brainer...

No photo description available.

...every single one of these seems to have a dent in the sill area on the n/s, must be a blind spot or something. It drove home ok, but I hear with my little ear some unexpected noises in the 6th gear area when doing 'motorway speeds'. They key also broke, so that's been a palaver alright.

Despite those issues it was later improved several fold after a visit to the spares department...

May be an image of text that says "LEAST IT' NOT AN IVECO"

Further news about a Skoda Labia with totally invisible* body repairs and a Toyota Aygo that's trying to bankrupt me to follow.

Surely you can find sufficient dubious bits about it to put her off?

My wife went to see her while I had my Saturday post-work snooze. The likelihood of a brake line being rotten may well burst was sufficient. That and a less than spectacular MoT history instantly made me think of it as a death trap. Trouble is sis-in-law is very headstrong so may well go and buy it anyway, and I know that will end in tears.

Might be soon if she likes the alternative suggestions wife and I have proffered.

@Supernaut and @dome came over to the unit today to give me a hand with the Oxford.

We got a load done, and I'm feeling much more motivated to gitter dun and get it on the road for a bit this year😁

After some cryptic texts and an unexpected phone call, I'm looking at a car tomorrow. It's rather promising on paper.

Early morning start for a collection. No trains at this time of day from Shipley so this was my first mode of transport.

Currently in Leeds train station waiting for my platform to be announced.

My sis in law sees any recommendation not to buy/do something as oppression (because she is quite mental). A ‘No’ would have been the green light for her to buy it.

Good luck 🤞

Well I was on the way to look at a car, after the seller phoned me last night and arranged a time with me to view it.

I'm halfway there and the cunt phones me and says he's sold it and he wanted to make sure I wasn't on the way.

If you've got someone else viewing the car you should fucking well say so.

A local village hall had a classic and cherished show today. Very badly advertised, it only was announced on their Facebook page yesterday. I didn't bother taking the MGB as it was walking distance and I couldn't be bothered to pull it out of storage.

Love the Austin Devon!  Quite a lot of interesting stuff there, and not so many that seeing everything becomes a marathon.

Well THAT WAS AN UNMITIGATED DISASTER.

I did the good deed of changing the coolant on the black 93 today.

Bolts holding the undertray were rounded so BFI was used.

20220904_150208.thumb.jpg.d758534bde2e2d32e8debd227ed8bb45.jpg

Drained no problem.

20220904_150200.thumb.jpg.cc320096334898b453ab0007e1bfdebc.jpg

Old coolant was past its best big time.

20220904_150555.thumb.jpg.4db7e98a1cc4d3ccf0ec400b823382f0.jpg

Refilled it, heaters nice and hot, ran it up to temp and there is absolutely no circulation whatsoever. The cooling system is literally stone dead. No heat at all going to or from the radiator. I cannot understand how yesterday it was fine and today it isn't working at all.

Either the thermostat has suddenly stuck shut or there's an immovable air lock.

I'm really pissed off with the red one squatting in my garage atm while my part is stuck in the post and now this one is being an arse. All my best car related decisions are made when I'm fu**ed off.

Yeah. This is why I didn't do a proper thread as I knew I'd forget to update it.

Anyhow, I was picked up from the station in this:

20220904_125335.thumb.jpg.7714a55ede6076d71f1ec24a202901e0.jpg

And taken round the corner to where these are:

20220904_125502.thumb.jpg.575cbe0dcd81a69018a0d6510a3ed7f0.jpg

To buy this:

Wuvvum took me out for a spin in it to show me what its ailment was. It drove okay when it was working but by the time we got back it was coughing and spluttering a bit and billowing smoke out of the back.

I'd only bought a one way ticket though, so money was exchanged and off I went, took a wrong turn, tried doing a 3 point turn and it conked out in a cloud of smoke next to some old men sat outside a club of some sort who found it most interesting. Probably the highlight of their day so far.

"Please start.... Please start...."

And it did.

Next 180 miles were uneventful. It was fine when on the open road and on the move.

When coming through Bradford and stop starting, it did begin to play up again though and went into restricted mode. Drove fine, no smoke or owt but was just down on power a bit.

Carried on in restricted as didn't want to stop it and not to be able to restart it again and got it home.

Imp Jr thinks its pretty cool. 20220904_173308.thumb.jpg.b9e5325113fd577a1469b92a5c337c09.jpg

Then had to go back to Leeds to pick up the Elgrand.

So, as long as I drive it where there's no other traffic, or lights or any reason to stop, its bob on.

Wuvvum showed me the odd looking injector he thinks might be the culprit when I was at his. I've spoken to my local Jag specialist and they've said if it is that, they have a load of good ones they've taken off engines themselves that they can lob on for £225 and will warranty the part.

Anyhow, will get it booked in shortly and see what they say.

Hopefully an easy fix, hopefully.....

However at the price, I've got some wiggle room if it turns out to be something a bit more involved.

Its odd, this car as it is today is only 2 years younger than my 1st Jag was in 2014 when I bought it.

The XF seems much MUCH newer in my head and the XJ felt like it was an old car when I bought it (not to drive it was just an old car if you get my drift).

Strange, innit.

What a selection. That R18 turbo takes me straight back to 1993. I was 18 and worked as a weekend skivvy at the local garage. The owner often let me borrow forecourt cars to go on parts runs and one day he lent me his R18 turbo. It felt very average right up until the turbo kicked in, which just so happened to be as I was alongside a car I was overtaking. Almost crapped myself - that thing was rapid!!
