At least the effects have told you that your immune system has taken note of the vaccine and done its thing!

I managed to unseize the SD1's sticky piston. A tip - turn an old powerfile belt inside out - if you slip it over the piston you can clean the part of the piston you can't see. After a polish it was lubed.

It will need replacing but for now it works - I really want to get it MOT'd and it needs money spending on other things.

I've accidentally nicked the CV joint boot on the Yaris with a cold chisel the day before my NCT >_<

I whacked the centre consol while playing with the blower controls and now the blower works throughout the range. Even the boost relay kicks in.

Gearchange has massively improved too. Probably more down to me acclimatising to the car, but some wooleyness has definitely disappeared.

I had a record-breaking run back from Somerset today - left Portishead Sainsburys at 15:08, pulled onto the car park at home at 19:31, including a piss stop at Cherwell Valley services.  I wasn't even driving particularly fast - the roads were just completely clear.  The Ypsilon appears to have done around 50mpg, so not bad but nowhere near the (absurd) official figures.  It's not bad on a long run for such a tiddly car, but it's nowhere near as comfy as the Rover.

My support bubble ( aka sister and family ) visited today. First time they’ve been in another house for over a year!

We played cricket on my* lawn before going to look at the lambs whilst viscount Severn blasted his shotgun at the Canada geese.

Bloody housework...

With everyone working from home keeping the place tidy has fallen a bit by he wayside lately as I have to try to stay out of the way and not make a racket etc.

Started cleaning, tidying, vacuuming etc about 1030 this morning...just stopped.  Not even saying finished as it's never finished.

Never having left the house (unless you count walking out to the freezer in the garage to get dinner), but I've managed to walk just over 15 miles today and climbed 47 flights of stairs.

I am going to regret this tomorrow, and probably even more so on Tuesday when my back reminds me precisely how much it hates me.

I have never known a house as bad as this one for dust and for spiders.  The former I reckon is because it's almost entirely laminate or tile floored.  The latter...no idea!

With a bit of work, you could have a second career impersonating Edward VII.

Work took me to Newmarket this morning - the Headquarters of British horse racing.  Had a wonderful morning on Warren Hill Gallops and at some rather prestigious stables in town, learning all about "horsing" and the like.

Best bit?  One of the owners running an A reg Toyota Tercel 4WD!!  It would have been improper to take a photo but a quick internet sleuth suggests it is owned by Sir Mark Prescott- the most prestigious of Newmarket trainers.

What a wonderful look.  In a sea of Disco 4s and RRs, a white Toyota Tercel on an A plate.  Marvellous.

Lots of standing on back seat of convertibles (ZIL?)

That's a brace of Aurus Senats. They replaced the ZILs in 2018 or 19. They were developed by NAMI (The Central Scientific Research Automobile and Automotive Engines Institute) and built by Aurus, a new state owned  enterprise. Putin himself was directly involved in developing it.  The state limousines have  4.4 litre hybrid engines developing 590bhp; but there are plans to sell them privately, these will not have the armoured bodies of the state limousines but will have the option of a 6.6 litre V12 engine developing 848bhp!

They're an imposing looking vehicle.  And they look absolutely nothing* like a Rolls Royce.

Get a blob of superglue on it before it becomes a tear, it might just get you through without having to faff with replacing the boot until after the test.

After the heavy rain last night, it was a good time to check the water ingress issue on the passenger footwell on the Cavalier. Clearing the central drain pipe made no difference and the water was actually dripping out the floor bung.

I was a bit concerned that the bulkhead was rotten there. Although  I do have the means to weld it now, there's wiring behind there so it could get a bit involved.

First I broke the windscreen washer pump outlet. Great. New one only £8 from ebay so ordered it on the hoof.

Garage that did the timing belt broke this vacuum hose connector which was annoying. I'm surprised it didn't  affect the running. Anyway, I can't get a new one yet as typing it into ebay brings up actual vacuum cleaner stuff!

I stripped out the plastic scuttle  panel. Its very fragile and will need some gaffa tape here and there.

The bulkhead looks OK . I reckon if I wanted to make things a WHOLE lot worse for myself I could dig out the bitumen matting and find a hole somewhere but as it stands, resealing the factory joins with Tiger Seal is a better solution. I'll then go over the lot with a couple of coats of Hammerite to seal the bitumen matting up as its cracked in a few places.

One area of grot about an inch long near the bottom of the screen but its not doing anything at the moment so I'll Vactan that up and leave it for now.

Glad I've got a decent garage to allow everything to dry out for a few days before sealing it!

I also had new fuel hose fitted from Hose World as the original was badly perished and definitely a fire risk. New stuff looks pretty heavy duty!

@Split_Pin I have a spare scuttle panel here if you want it?

I meant to include it with the Cav, but missplaced it prior to selling!

A white horse walked into a bar and  asked for a whisky, the barman said "we have a whisky named after you" The horse replied "What, Nigel?"

Yes please! I have devised a repair to the plastic involving a scrap length of door seal rubber but a better one would be perfect. I shall PM you!

A joke so old, it was known to the Ancient Romans.

Spent last week camping in the T2 in the Lake District. To say that the weather was changeable would be an understatement. The new gearbox was very pleasantly silent, the old van/new engine ran smooth & swift and the Propex heater was toastie warm, but burnt a shitload of gas.

In other exciting news, the Scirocco has become surprisingly brisk for a babby 1600.

I put some electrical tape over it and then the jubilee clip on top. It ultimately failed the test on corrosion, so I got some 1.5mm plate on the way home 👍

It was a race-horse. Late evening, wanders up to the bar.

Barman: Sorry, you're just too late.

Horse: But you just called me in!

Barman (confused): I didn't!

Horse: You did! My name is Time Gentleman Please.

(...puts coat on)
