Saab 9-5 estate passed its MOT today. The exhaust back box which was an advisory as being in very poor condition last year is only poor this year. How long before it is like new?

Unexpected day off today (back in work tomorrow, don't worry!)

Decided to make use of the day, bought a small mini pool table for £10. Then the car needed sorting. Since I got it back from gearbox repairs the steering has been out which resulted in a tyre losing much of its tread on the way to London a few weeks ago.

Most people I went to couldn't get the tracking done until the afternoon. But I found a great place I'd been to once. They brought my car in, did the tracking (by laser) the tracking was miles out and they swapped the wheels around so I had 2 of the newest tyres on the front. All sorted for under £30.

It doesn't feel much different but the steering wheel is straighter and hopefully the tyres won't be scrubbing. The exhaust has lost a bolt and is "hanging on for dear life" according to the lad who did the tracking.

What im reading is

So you had the gearbox done, which I assume required disconnecting both steering and exhaust, and they couldn't be arsed doing the job right?

Is that how anyone else sees it ?

Posted

Probably, but I'm greatful for the job that got done for £not much as it could have been and also for the help I got ?

Even getting the tyres and tracking done now, it still cost less than what it would cost alone at normal prices. I'd known the steering wasn't right since I got the car back from repairs and had intended to get it done but it's only recently when I began to notice my tyres badly shedding its tread that something needed to be done fast.

Is that the lads on Station Road, Old Hill Mo? I use them for all of my tyre needs. When I re-shod the Saab; they were the cheapest for miles around. They used to be fascinated by the CX too!

Yep! Midland Tyres, Station Road. Mahmoud used to send me there with customers cars way back when, when he didn't have tracking facilities. I use AD Tyres aswell but they couldn't fit me in until later on.

The subframe will have been dropped on one side so various steering things will have been disconnected.

My Vectra steering wheel was never straight and I had the car for so long that I still hold the steering wheel at about 3:40.

Fucking wanker, he's lowered the price of the car... I can't see it until Friday night at the earliest.

The milage is a bit dodgy, (lost 15k miles...) but the price of the car it doesn't matter. Just don't want some shitter to snaffle it. :D

Your tester looks rather picky or just had a close call with the DVSA recently!

Fail doesn't look too bad. Light bulb, rear pads and adjust handbrake?

Mk3 Mondeo's handbrake is a annual service item according to a chap I know who had one for years. He just put up with it always failing on the handbrake travel. It was a manual, so he always used the Hb when parked, apparently its just a 'thing' with them.

otherwise just consumables really?

Courtesy call from Plusnet to say a BT engineer had attended.

Went to Scotoshite in the GSA last night, but went straight in from work. This meant taking a different route, and an opportunity presented itself..

Were you not allowed to drive it up to the showroom windows?

If you told 10 year old me he'd have a 5 car garage* in his 20s he'd probably get a bit excited. Of course, the grim reality wouldn't really be apparent to him.

But of course the V5 for Mavis isn't in the folder with the rest, that'd be too easy. I must find it soon so I can sorn it and get my Wanker Plate off.

flippen eck !!!

should of said :-

it was that article in the Daily Mail , amazing the number of arm chair detectives that have posted  an over rated  opinion  ,

at the end of the day , the driver and passenger walked away , a car got trashed , and luckily no one else got hurt ..

it seems a lot of people are not happy with this and worryingly want a result ...  poor guy has trashed his car and they want more ladled on !!

Third attempt to fix the Mercedes’ ac has gone tits up again. John at work bright and early with lovely, correct and shiny compressor. Two hours later car is off the ramps and bonnet shut so I am all happy. Then he comes and says that a bolt has sheared on the compressor bracket carrier. He’s had to put it all back together again to keep the car mobile and will try and source a second hand one or take the old one away to be drilled out. It’s being a particular pain at the moment.

Shame about the AC. That’s the only thing that works flawlessly on my GOLF. Modern or shite forum material? It’s now as old as a 405 estate I was telling you lot about in 2010. Discuss.

I drove my MX5 to work today, a 70 mile round trip in a car that has sat idle for 3 years - WCPGW?

It hardly* broke down at all (the MAP sensor tube came off, which made it run like shite and I thought something was very broken, but only took 5 seconds to fix).  It is NOISY, STUPID, DANGEROUS and INAPPROPRIATE for a man of my age, so likely to be for sale shortly.  I mean it this time.  I think.
