Last night my wife informed me that my daughter's yellow Bini Cooper which I paid 425 for a clutch on a month ago is makibg aweful noises at motorway speeds.

Apparently she's tried to talk to me but I've fobbed her off.

Well that's because I thought it was a bit a back lash because before the clutch went she made me listen to it and it was clearly a bit worn but hey Midlands fucking gearbox circa 2001.

Anyway apparently I'm to help buy a replacement car.

I'll listen to it again today.

I wonder if it's worse after the clutch change. Maybe they did something wrong. Maybe it's not the gearbox.

I wondered if I could have the Bini and restore it to an as new state.

Get rid of the mx5. Use it at weekends.

I wonder if I should sack off the moanega which needs some Work and replace it with a 650i or an Monaro

I wonder I wonder.

Had a drive. It's worse, but I reckon there's a few miles left in it.

I took it to the place that did the clutch and they suggest a second hand gearbox in the next few months will be required.

They would charge 250 to fit it. Looking on eBay that looks like another 250 quid for the box.

We could bail out on gum tree it or we could go second hand or maybe a refurbed exchange unit?

Anyone know a decent supplier of Midlands finest gearbox???

Acclaim blew a rear brake cylinder on the way to work this morning.

Mrs Cade has decided she's had enough of shitering and has purchased a Fiat 500L on finance! She has a fine history with shite, highlights include a Fiat Coupe, an Alfa 146 boxer and a 190D. End of an era, and now I have to decide what to do with her wee Daihatsu Charade. I rather like it!

Will I turn into Peter Kay if I drive the Fiat anywhere?. Collect it Tuesday seemingly, it's bloody huge!

The Vito has gone, longest I've ever owned any vehicle and I really miss it. No more camping for us for the forseeable future, There will forever be a turquoise van shaped hole in my life. :(

Always liked Fiats but those 500Ls are boggin'.

Viewed another car last night, more broken than expected.

Naturally, I've bought it.

Getting delivered tonight!

What is it with you and Honda brakes?

This is the reverse of the last problem, the Civic's were stuck ON!

Also, today I've learned it is possible to drive through Glasgow rush hour without a foot brake. It isn't however, advisable. Also, the Acclaim has a sensor for low brake fluid and illuminates a warning light on the dash, how fancy!

Hmm, She loves Fiats and she wanted a safe car for our Grandaughter. I stayed out of the buying process! At least I managed to get her not to buy a Diesel.

Gears in the Princess went all funny today.  Quick fix on the drive since I just needed to screw the bolt back in that a previous owner used to replace the snapped off pin on the selector ball.  Should see me good for another few years now, or I could expend some effort and actually sort out the spare selector box I've got and fit that instead.  These minor inconveniences are happening because the MoT is looming and it knows.

The cup holder I bought from a vehicle Dismantlers on eBay for a 1995 vw polo arrived today. No I don’t have a VW, but I do have a plan!

Make one out of parts? I'm not sure I'd start with the cup holder...

Has it been a year already?

Amazingly, yes!  MoT is due on the 9th of April, so providing I can get these boots and the bearing done tomorrow, I'll be giving you more money to check over my dreadful life decisions.

Couple days ago I saw a van that the lorry company MAN were showcasing as their new demonstration van product. I kid you not, it is a Mercedes Sprinter with a MAN logo on it.

Well I can't see the less than charitable remarks since I'm not on that dumpster fire of a platform.  I'm sure their remarks were all hilarious* and witty*.

Braved the cold ground to get to grips with the last tiny leak from the Rover 620's unobtainium power steering pipe today. JB Weld was my weapon of choice this time, much less of a faff to use than Araldite as it squirts out equal measures of each chemical prior to getting busy with the wooden mixer thing, so no guesswork.

6 minutes to slap it on and hope for the best - did a lovely job, all nice and smooth. Needs 4-6 hrs to cure and 15 hrs to set solid so shall take it out for a spin tomorrow to check all good.

Assuming all good and no catastrophic leaks, shall book it in for an MoT at my lucky* testing station, F1 Autocentres in Bulwell for a morning next week.

I have had a couple of visitors today, both car people in the own way, the non Auto Shiter was pleased to park his shiny black BMW coupe on my drive to hide the horrid blue van that had appeared there and when ridiculed by me about the BMW to our other guest produced a picture of his MGB saying the BMW was just his work car. Our own GoGentley simply enquired what the car was in the picture!

Anyway I am sorry I do have a friend with a black BMW coupe and a MGB and I am surprised the decency police have not visited me concerned at the company I keep.

Now to the more interesting side of the day, yes GoGentley turned up with a Renault Extra van in regular use, great looking and fully functioning. He says he just has not had time to post about it. My guess is he was concerned at the jealousy it would cause on the forum!

Now for the question of questions, WTF is it? I refer to the ammunition box bolted in and connected to the carburettor.

Looks like some sort of home-made scavenging system.

It might have been a heated air intake if these two pipes were once plumbed in to the cooling system.

Recently got back after my neices birthday - witness my prowess with the cricket set I bought.

Anyhooo.

I found a new Message request from a stranger. Turns out she’s the daughter of the man who’s burnt out van I found on Thursday. She wanted to check the times as the police told her it was found burning on Thursday afternoon but I reported it burned out and cold at 8am.

It was stolen from shepperton Wednesday night - he’s a courier and had just paid for a new engine last week. Does anyone else find this a coincidence beyond belief?

Anyway, she sounds very nice online.....post-8687-0-00278500-1552165201_thumb.jpeg

Ouch, garage tip off?

Sounds like it, but proving it...

I'm pretty crap at this mechanic-ing stuff but I achieved a fix today on the old Puggy 405 I bought from Davehedehog31.
The heater fan was offering the options of on full blast with the ignition, or off when you pulled the fuse out and a quick look at the HBOL suggested it was an easy enough fix so I spent half an hour twisted into all sorts of shapes liberating the blower from behind the glovebox and achieved a fix.

I know it's nothing compared to what some folks on here can do but I didn't end up covered in blood, or break half a dozen other bits in the process so I'm calling today a WIN. :-P

Here is the Innocenti showing off its shiny new offside headlight lens and its shiny new offside door mirror.

post-190-0-31398300-1552179872_thumb.jpg

If I'm honest the asymmetry of the glass is rather more noticeable once the light unit is back on the car than I had been hoping, but it'll do for now and is a lot better than the half-a-dozen-bits-of-glass-superglued-together which it replaced.

The mirror was another ebay.it find - it's a Taiwanese pattern part and is all plastic rather than the part-metal construction of the original, and the head is not quite the same shape, but it fits perfectly and the metal the genuine mirror is made from is not the strongest anyway.  And this one was 25 quid delivered, rather than the 120 or so that a NOS Innocenti mirror would've cost.
