vulgalour Posted March 3, 2019 Posted March 3, 2019 This weeks jobs were going to be doing the wheel bearing on the Princess and the LHM in the BX. Unfortunately because silly self-employment reasons, money wasn't available until now so I'll probably have to wait until next weekend before I'll have time to sort these things out. I'm really eager to get driving the BX, I'm just being thwarted by time at the moment. I'm grateful that the Princess is being so good for once, 14 weeks now as my only car and while there's been some hiccups, nothing has been insurmountable or particularly infuriating. Does feel a bit strange to have the car side of things so under control. I sort of miss the excitement of disappointment and hideous expense. Sort of. RayMK, RobT, Twiggy and 1 other 4
richardmorris Posted March 3, 2019 Posted March 3, 2019 Not many people about in Friday street this morning - perhaps the horizontal drizzle was putting people off. And the spectacular view over the north downs from Leith Hill tower. Oh well. RayMK, Twiggy, Squire_Dawson and 3 others 6
DSdriver Posted March 3, 2019 Posted March 3, 2019 I presume the middle pic is the other end of the car park or is it an actual lake
richardmorris Posted March 3, 2019 Posted March 3, 2019 I presume the middle pic is the other end of the car park or is it an actual lake I meant to explain. That is the hammer pond ( not a mill pond) at Friday street, yes, just down from the carpark.A medieval village mentioned in the domesday book and the location of the post apocalyptic ( aren’t they all?) village in the BBC series The Tripods. Nice pub too with its own tillingbourne beer. Turns out I nearly got a KOM on a strava route out from the pond too- just 1second slower. The walk, although I did it starting in Friday street as it was closer, and fewer cyclists on the road. SierraMikeHotel, Jim Bell and mrbenn 3

richardmorris Posted March 3, 2019 Posted March 3, 2019 That view reminds me of my Nana. She had terrible catteracts.I had hoped it would clear by the time I got to the tower, but it wasn’t worth the effort of climbing the steps for a better view. Edit, and the Mercedes ticked over to 120,000 on the way home. That’s 45,000 in my ownership in the last seven years. Jim Bell and mrbenn 2

dozeydustman Posted March 3, 2019 Posted March 3, 2019 House move successful thanks to friends and family helping out, still have a few bits to bring over from old place but have 2 weeks to do that and shampoo the carpets etc before we hand the keys back. Meanwhile the Corolla appears to have snapped its cambelt this afternoon, so had to rescue Mrs D and stepdaughter from down the road. Thankfully I has garage in which to work on it. GrumpiusMaximus 1

Fumbler Posted March 3, 2019 Posted March 3, 2019 First carpark panic with the P38. Brother unlocked the doors and I opened the rear hatch. Well... I thought he had unlocked it, because as soon as I had opened the hatch, the hazards carried on flashing. Dash said "alarm triggered". Oh hell. I mean it would be fine if Rover didn't add 5 levels of alarm, with our episode being the first level. Anyway, unlocked it again and the immobiliser deactivated along with the lights, so all is well... Datsuncog 1

auntiemaryscanary Posted March 3, 2019 Posted March 3, 2019 Nippa has been running really lumpy from cold start and also affecting acceleration when warmed. No obvious loose connections and HT leads, distributor cap & arm, spark plugs etc changed 10 months ago. Wondered if could be one of temperature sensors? Only engine service item it's not had whilst I've had it in 2 1/2 years is a fuel filter. Purchased from Euros on "sale" and running tons better. Can actually make it accelerate, novelty! Should be cold enough in the morning to see if it's cured start up bother. dollywobbler and bangernomics 2
dollywobbler Posted March 3, 2019 Posted March 3, 2019 Aside from yanking the engine out of the Fox, I've mostly had a weekend off from car stuff, other than clocking up a fair few miles (about 170) in the Matiz and Nippa as we ferried ourselves and a friend about the place. Got pretty gusty here today, and had the absolute shite scared out of me at one point. Turns out the door seals are a bit knackered, and one particularly sharp gust made a noise that I can only describe like a baby elephant that is quite excited. Having that noise suddenly happen next to your right ear is pretty darned alarming. Also, when it's gusty, the Matiz's steering is so bloody sensitive that it becomes impossible to maintain a straight course. The car behind backed off. They probably considered grassing me up to the rozzers for being drunk. auntiemaryscanary and Jim Bell 2
stuboy Posted March 3, 2019 Posted March 3, 2019 todays plan.. change droplinks and look into why i lost some electrial items on the galaxy.... looked out window and thought stuff that.. Timewaster 1
New POD Posted March 3, 2019 Posted March 3, 2019 New Lucas blades ordered the Bosch ones are making a racket after only 12month on the car, cleaning the screen/wipers has done jack. I can see the driver one skipping too. Looking for a cheap (new) stereo which has USB/MP3 capability and perhaps Bluetooth, any suggestions? The best wipers I've ever purchased came from Asda. Better than Bosch and GM I do 20k miles a year. Tend to replace them every 15k. RobT 1

beko1987 Posted March 4, 2019 Posted March 4, 2019 If i started my 406 and then removed the battery would it continue to be turned on? Say, to drive it to a scrapyard to save its good battery...
17-Coffees Posted March 4, 2019 Posted March 4, 2019 I finally bought an alternator for the my LS400. Due to arrive this week. MUCH EXCITE! dome 1
Ghosty Posted March 4, 2019 Posted March 4, 2019 If i started my 406 and then removed the battery would it continue to be turned on? Say, to drive it to a scrapyard to save its good battery... This sounds suicidal to me. Get some rubber gloves or something else that doesn't conduct to hold the tools if you want to go through with it. (I don't see why not, though), I hope someone that knows more than me is along shortly to give actual advice.
loserone Posted March 4, 2019 Posted March 4, 2019 Why not say you'd like to keep the battery when you get there?
beko1987 Posted March 4, 2019 Posted March 4, 2019 Why not say you'd like to keep the battery when you get there?Cos I wasn't sure if they knocked money off or not. Saying that though when I took the laguna in I just parked it up and wandered in, they barely looked at it. Could park up, whip the battery off and into the Zafira and then saunter into the office

bub2006 Posted March 4, 2019 Posted March 4, 2019 Sam I highly doubt it will work for long. Too many electronics on the hdi. Old school mechanical pumps then yes. beko1987 1
dollywobbler Posted March 4, 2019 Posted March 4, 2019 Even mechanical pumps had a 12v stop solenoid feed that you would have needed to keep live. Anyone local got an utterly shagged battery you could have? I've got loads here, a zillion miles away. Sorry.
beko1987 Posted March 4, 2019 Posted March 4, 2019 I'm half tempted to park out of the way at the scrapyard and half inch it... Loosen the clamps before we leave I'm not sure what I'll do with it kind, but it seems a waste to just bin it
wuvvum Posted March 4, 2019 Posted March 4, 2019 Some cars will run quite happily on the output from the alternator without needing a battery in the circuit. I can't remember if the 406 does or not, so not very helpful, soz. Craig the Princess and LightBulbFun 2
bub2006 Posted March 4, 2019 Posted March 4, 2019 The xud used to but I don't think the hdi engine does very well
