I’m convinced it was a green Cortina now I’ve been looking after the above pic was posted.

Makes it bloody weird though as I randomly bought a Cortina Haynes manual in a charity shop yesterday.. odd.

Well there you go! Start with the 1 and 2 spanner jobs, change the cambelt and fire her up!

But seriously, it needs it's own thread and loads of detailed pics as you find it all, I love stuff like this, even though its basically a pile of scrap

Took this out for a blast, kicked its arse but when I went back to it a few hours later it was misfiring like fuck and flashing the EML.

Going out to it tonight to plug it in, consensus is injectors.

Has anyone else been following the chap on YouTube restoring a £500 Rover P6?  It is weirdly addictive and quite amusing especially once his mate starts getting involved. Some of it is bordering on Partridge stuff but this is all totally genuine.  I am yet to find a better series on Netflix.  Here is part one

A day out in the dull Passat today, I changed the fuel filter in anticipation yesterday.

I think the old fuel filter was clogged with the cheap soya SVO I was using a month ago because it goes a lot better now and the fuel consumption is incredible, 65 MPG through the mountains with overtakes and 80MPH blasts on the motorway. It drives a lot better with new track rod ends and the tracking done and was quite fun to drive on the A85.

No pictures of the car but have some mountains.

It's weird they seem to be using it as a mechanism for selling ties with hidden pictures of 70' skud mags in them (go to the videos list to see what I mean)

Rover P6 owners eh?

Not seen someone put a bonnet bra on a car on purpose for years.  You need to get some clear perspex headlight guards to match now.

allegedly stops stone chips etc etc and as the mk2 got low mileage he wants to save the bodywork.

Some of the stuff he does makes you wince.

Don't get the feeling it's meant as a joke, but he's no mechanic, is he?

Made it back home in the C4 and been investigating its problems.I thought it felt a bit slow on the way home and banged the fault code reader in, code PO402, exhaust gas recirculation flow excessive detected, the eml was on along with ESP light. I'm assuming that's the egr valve then. Cleared the codes and it flew along...for 5 minutes to it came back on again, still going ok, then a few minutes laster ESP came on and back into limp mode. hopefully should be easy to sort out. Been playing with the heater blowers and found out there is no power getting to its fuse, hence no power to any of the heater fan components. Need to find out if its a under bonnet fuse box fault, I might for a fast fix wire in a new feed wire if its looking too complicated. A load of wd40 in the one door lock and its partially unseized. I can unlock the car but not lock it. I might whip the lock out and fill it full of oil. Then I'll fit a cheap chinese remote kit as the original plip key is missing. The dodgy paintwork on the roof and bonnet can get sorted with the black carbon fibre wrap I've had in cupboard for a few years. On the whole I'm well pleased with it.

Christ, I just watched Arrival and its got me all emotional. I've not been this upset after watching something since Silent Running when I was a nipper, if we exclude that time I watched the A Team on a massive comedown and B.A. helped out those kids.

So I was working yesterday, which has the benefit of there being a fair bit of downtime.  Sunny day, so out with the ramps and determination to find that annoying wee rattle I hear now and again.

post-2897-0-53965500-1551045456_thumb.jpg

Found a fair few missing bolts on undertrays, and worn-through heat shield washers etc.  Piecemeal stuff, so sorted them out and got it all tightened up.  Noticed that it had had recent new brake lines, but they'd left the old ones in there too.  Stupidly didn't think anything of this.  Nothing too hairy looking underneath otherwise.

All done, took it for a drive.  Rattle still there.  Dawns on me that it's the old brake lines jangling about.  Duh.  So back to base and repeat previous process but with added brakeline removal/cable tie action.

Except I didn't get that far.

Blokie from work comes over to see what's happening - just as I have the boot open to get tools back out.  I get distracted talking.  He suggests tea.  I shut the boot.  ONLY KEY FOR CAR IS IN BOOT.  Which is now locked.  Along with rest of car.

I should add that I had a hotel booked for last night - in Bradford, for the family.

Fuck.

Straight to youtube for help.

Hear car alarm - blokie has tried the doors and gotten the back door open.  I'd forgotten about the dodgy actuator on it.  Not a result though - no access to boot from back seat.

Took number plate off and plastic trim behind, unscrewed boot handle and tried to reach in to force the cable by hand.  No dice.

Back to youtube.  PANIC LEVELS RISING.

Found excellent fix.  Negative off battery, wait 60 secs or so, re-connect, press lock\unlock button on centre console.  Boot springs open.  Fucking win.

Key reclaimed, Panic levels lowered.

Boot lock now only works when you pull it repeatedly for a while.  I think I stretched the cable on it trying to gain access.

Bollocks.

Gonna have to strip it down and investigate.  Which is not gonna be straightforward I reckon, and could make it worse/non-functional.

Mercedes huh?

Moral of story.

Do not fix back door actuator - ever.

Never buy another car with only one smart key.

PS, there's still a rattle.

Short trip to Skipton/Malham was ace though, and sure, the boot functioned enough not to ruin it.  Don't you just love the wee creeping fears ye have with motors?

Thermostat.

Injectors.

Boot lock.

The list continues.

I decided to investigate the cause of the sideways pull under braking on my omega today.

It has previously had wishbone. Drop kings and steering end arms.

It also had a vibration under braking.

I figured that it might be something sticking on the calipers.

I thought I might as well.replace the discs and pads.

Could not get one the disks off, so i figured that I'd just do the pads. One pad was very tight. I cleaned it up and put it together with high temp grease on the areas where the pads touch.

Vibration gone, still pulls to left.

I might be forced to pay domeone
