Have had a lovely day. Woke up in a shack in someone's garden, thrashed an AE86 around at Silverstone (including a gentle parade that at one point allowed me to get up to 80mph), drove a Mirai (hydrogen), drove a Celica Supra Mk1, saw a Reliant Rebel on the motorway, drove over 300 miles in the Favorit since yesterday, with every mile logged by the mileometer. Perfect.

Can you give us lots and lots of details on the workings of the Mirai please?

Got it. I'm also being optimistic taking a spare battery and jump leads, but you never know.

Blimey, you have seen it right ;-)!

I don't think the jump leads are for the Invacar

Did an oil change on the Visa today. Didn't use the pela as that would've involved walking to the shed. Ended up getting more oil on the drive than I got in the drain pan.

I'd left the oil filter on the shoe cupboard as I knew I'd need it but Mrs Imp had hidden it so it took me about an hour to find it as she had gone swimming so wasn't answering her phone.

Then I noticed the rear light had come away in the boot. I went to the garage to get a bolt and dropped the entire box of nuts, bolts & washers all over the floor.

Well, I actually dropped about half of it but was in such a bad mood after spilling all the oil and not being able to find the oil filter, when some of them fell out I hurled the rest of the box across the floor.

Lights still not fixed on properly.

"Well if you had put it away properly and not left it cluttering up on the side, this wouldn't have happened."

An all too often said phrase my wife says when I have the same problem trying to find stuff moved around here.

Mrs BMH is taking me to Lidl shopping, then to look at her mate's MG TF that she fancies buying !!!!

FFS, we've already got a floppy top MGB, do I really need another one? Saving that, it's 15 years old and has covered only 25k coupled to having had the belts done last year and a very good MoT history.

Anybody want a 54 plate C3, 12 months MoT just in case I weaken?

Posted

25k on a TF is pretty impressive. It will only be on its second headgasket! Let’s face it the MG will be quite a bit more entertaining than the C3 if you are willing to put up with the harsher ride, tiny boot and no back seats.

Good to meet another shiter today. Mally popped round to

pick up the drill and wrench he bought. Moggy engine in the

A quick update from South Africa, the CiTi Golf does exist in decent numbers. Now, can I get one home.........?

Rear C Pillar is sculpted and the front end is rounded, almost MK2 ish. I do like this shape Golf though.

Washed the car today (this is news, I very rarely do it) including the interior which was very dusty from its week spent sitting in a paint shop.

I bumped a kerb recently, at maybe 10mph, and this was the result :(

Sharp edge of the kerb? A bit of wheel paint would sort the rim. And to be fair that tyre looks quite perished anyway.

I failed abysmally in my attempt not to buy another MG.

Actually got out to do some work on the GT6 for the first time this year.

Have nearly finished the nearside now, bar tidying it all up.

Think I'm gonna leave it on this side though whilst I tackle this bit below which doesn't look like much fun.

I reckon doing that where it is working downwards on it is probably easier than having the car rolled onto the other side and doing it upwards.

I'll still need to roll the car to do the o/s sill end but think its best to tackle that grotty bit where it is.

I've also been meaning to ask, when i tidy up the welds, what are those flap disc things people recommend? Saves me using the grinder. Is it these ones?

post-3133-0-49678300-1550422220_thumb.jpg

Never tried them but a few people have mentioned them.

Them flapper discs are G9

Yes they are the ones they are excellent at removing surface rust, fingerprints and general tidying up before paint.

Posted

Just be careful as they take off metal very quickly and you can find that it becomes very thin quickly. Also wear thick gloves or welding gauntlets. Given how quickly they eat through metal, skin would vanish quicker than sliding along tarmac bare skinned at 70mph.

And the current state of play, with the Thunder wheels and interior fitted.

Went for a two or three miles blast, most if it DLAC and it was class. Had forgotten how much fun it is, especially round the back lanes.

Nice buy! Especially if it's only 25k on the clock.

Just crept over 26k now (MoT list is pretty impressive). Belts done in 2016, 4 decent Continentals on the corners, couple of minor scrapes and a brand new battery yesterday. Though a single bag of gold was a decent price.

Know anbody who wants a C3 with 12 months MoT for £300 (shiters discount will apply) ?.

Right,that's it

Stop the world I want to get off.....

Absurdly logical, in a way.

I’m really liking the look of that MG. I bet whoever owns that MG emporium on the A1 would drool all over it.

Thought id service the mondeo, plugs were done up by the hulk, air filter was overdue a change, and one screw to air filter top disintegrated...

Not much news from me this weekend but I did do a small amount of car fiddling.

I adjusted the carb on the Vauxhall as it was running too rich. The Colourtune is still a bit yellow at idle but leaning it off any more makes it feel like it’s about to stall; not sure what that’s about but it drives very well so that’ll do. Gave it a good run over to my sister’s at the other end of Gower.

Jag drove back from London happily and is a very pleasing thing. Heater isn’t hot though and blower stopped blowing in spite of being new (used but newly fitted). Fuse? Airlock in the cooling system? Iffy dash electrics? All of the above?

Manoeuvring on the farm in the dark, if seems the brake light switch isn’t as sensitive as I’d like so I will try and adjust that too before I go much further.

No action pics of work being done but have this one instead.
