I know this is a bit like that lottery advert where they say worse problems to have but i *need to sell a car but I'm struggling! I've just spent a hour doing a advert on eBay for my Ital van but i just can't press submit, basically i have more cars than space at the moment and too much of my savings invested in them, my house is on the market and my Focus isn't too well and ideally needs replacing with a diesel so i need some cash and something need to go but i can't decide!. I'm hoping writing it here will help me make my mind up...

So firstly, and most logically would be the Ital van, it's a van so the family can't go in it and i haven't got much use for a van either but being a van it's also handy at times, like that boot sale i had on Saturday, The £130 a year insurance isn't ideal but it is lower road tax plus i have a long history with the van knowing it since 1994 and to be honest i enjoy driving it, yes it's a bit uncomfortable and noisy but it's fun to drive and I've done a lot of work on it, i can't sell it now it's all sorted, can i?.

attachicon.gifIMG_2905.JPG

Next up is the Rover, it costs a fortune to run in fuel, the road tax is a lot and it's £150 a year to insure too, It only just fits in my garage too but again it's bloody lovely to drive, sound great with the stainless exhaust, looks gorgeous from the front and i can get all the family and prams in the car and it's just a practical retro/classic. Both the Van and car are realistically worth around £3500 each I'd imagine?.

Lastly I've got the Marina Estate, it doesn't really drive all that nice, especially compared to the Rover (as expected) but I can't sell this yet, £78 to insure, tax and mot exempt and i'll never find another classic in this condition again plus I'm displaying it at the NEC in November so that's a no go at the moment.

So it's between the van and the Rover, shit, I'm even more confused what to do now than before!

I think you would regret selling the Ital more than the others because of the history you have with it and the work you have done to it and you clearly prefer the SD1 over the Marina. Would it be worth it to you to sell the Marina to someone that can commit to displaying it at the NEC or is it more about you displaying it there?

Sounds like you actually get use out of the van and the SD1 and that the Marina is more of a thing to look at and be astonished by.  Last in, first out?

Time to buy a classic car transporter to park them all on & free up space.

Ultimately I'd love to sell them all and buy a Amazon Estate but i still can't afford one of them! I'd be happy with just one tax exempt classic which i could use for trips slightly further afield but equally use to take the family out for the day or to shows (I have two children under 3), a nice Triumph 2500 Estate would be high on the list too!

Tough decision triggs. Id love either the Marina or the SD1. I do think you should keep the van though as its so rare and has that link. Triumph 2000 is good choice but check that body rot. I spent months rebuilding one in the nineties SDM M (cant remember the numbers) i hated the thing in the end but thats only because it was a bar steward to weld up. Twas a great car otherwise. ..

Spent the weekend in Sussex in the Max and Paddy camper, for a family reunion.

Highlight* of the weekend was going up the hill out of Singleton up to Goodwood, we were down to around 5mph in first gear at one point.

I have to say that camper is the slowest vehicle i have ever driven, mopeds aside.

It won't even mix with the HGVs on the motorway, because any incline and it loses a third of its speed.

Off away in it this weekend, but staying local this time, it can cope with Norfolk hills quite easily.

Allow me to remind you of the approved AS solution* to all fleet size problems : you need to buy more cars.

Apparently they just need a bracket filing and fit right in! How much works on what you originally had installed, eg nav DVD drive, wide-screen TV tuner etc.

The estate really was never a pretty vehicle by any stretch.

I love that the drive video shows it doing like 15mph while sounding like it is revving it's nuts off.

While the Saloon had a certain charm and the VP just looked depressed. Much better than the reversed into the wall look of the estate.

I've bought an old epco trolley jack off ebay... it doesn't work. The seller was a nice guy though so I bought a car of him as well...that's not even a joke.

Current fleet stands a two reliant robins, two vauxhall vectras, two vw lupos,a fiesta and a mk1 golf.

Still no girlfriend though...fml.

If it doesn't fit ir you end up not needing it, I'll have it off ya'. I have thought often about upgrading my system with an OEM system but it sounds like a massive bag of hassel to fit it in.

Don't think you're allowed to sell anything live (or body parts) on ebay so you'll need to look elsewhere.

Trig, if it were me I'd probably sell the Marina. If it doesn't drive that well then you'll probably find you won't use it that much. Nice thing to just look at though...

Be a shame to sell the van, and it'll be perfect for moving house.

Car spotting in central(ish) London is a doddle. It just goes 20x black Mercedes, 3x Toyota Prius, 20x black Mercedes.

...and out of those, how many are carrying "private hire" badges?

I wouldn't say the Marina drives bad, it's just a bit light feeling on the front end and skatty in the wind when crossing Orwell Bridge, the estates never got the front anti roll bars so that doesn't help, other than that it potters along quite nicely.

I'm thinking the Rover might go, it's the one that's costing me the most and I won't be using it over winter for this reason, I took it to a old skool garage this afternoon to try and sort the rich running/smoking problem.

He came to the conclusion that both needles inside the carbs are worn and have a flat edge on them which is causing fuel to bypass them, I've ordered a pair of new ones up to see if that cures it. I had someone pestering me to buy it yesterday so I might message him to come and take a look, then sell the van and Marina in the new year, we'll see on that one.

Haven’t seen a singe private hire taxi yet, so either they dont have to have badges and stickers on their cars, or there just aren’t any private hires.

Thought I'd have a look at the 75's drivers window today to see why it only went up a cm at a time. Which was an annoying trait as being of the fatter persuasion I like a breeze as I drive.

I knew it would be something to do with the anti-trap wiring, hopefully just a bad connection!

Door card off. No wires to be seen, Bugger!! Robbed one off another door I had lying around. OK where does this plug into? Christ knows! No corresponding wires in the loom (pink with green stripe).

Bugger it'll I just change the loom as well. So ripped the old one out which led to the discovery the bloody door had to come off to get the main plug out!! Any way 20 minute job was 2 hours of swearing and door balancing on top of an old army ammo box :?

End result was extremely pleasing though!!

99% of e class and 100% of prius will be private hire (other made up statistics are available). Usually hiding a diamond sticker under the tint of the rear screen.

Nice photo opportunity for the 405 last night, between Maidens and Dunure, looking across to Arran. Only had my phone unfortunately.

They don’t have plates like everywhere else - just a green sticker in the front/back windows.

A Prius without said stickers is a rare thing.

HERMAN IS DOWN.

Last night, the old boy fired a coolant low warning a couple of miles from home, so I took it easy for the rest of the journey back, and turned on the dashboard diagnostic coolant temperature display. Bang on 93c. Happy days.

Got less than thirty seconds away, and plumes of steam out the back, with coolant temp peaking at 107c. Thankfully it was all downhill to the driveway which hopefully helped. Opened the bonnet to find coolant scattered everywhere.

Going to look at it today.
